Skin and Haircare Recipes

These are great at a bridal shower or just to pamper yourself!

Control The Frizzies - As the weather gets colder, it tends to get drier, too. With that dryness often comes frizzies. You can control them easily with the following recipe:

1 cup olive oil
1/3 cup beeswax
1 T coconut oil

Mix all the ingredients together over very low heat until melted.

Pour into a heatproof container; let set 20 minutes to solidify. To use, rub a pea-sized dab between the palms of your hands. Rub through dry hair to style.

For Your Face - Just as you don't want to dry out your hair, you don't want to dry out your face, either. One way to help avoid dry skin is to use products with low or no irritants in them. Alcohol, fragrance, and witch hazel, as well as certain other ingredients found in astringents and the like, can irritate your skin. They can dry it out, cause breakouts, redness, or allergic reactions. These are all called negative irritants. On the other hand, there are also positive irritants out there. These include AHA's, Renova, sunscreens, BHA's, etc. These positive irritants are so-called because they're used for a "greater purpose," i.e., to protect skin, increase cell turnover, etc. If you find you react to any of these products, it's best not to use any products that contain the aforementioned ingredients.

Soften Up - Since I'm going on about not drying, here's a little recipe to soften your skin (but, alas, not while you do the dishes!). Enjoy!

1 T honey
2 egg whites
2 T cold milk

Mix all ingredients in a bowl until blended. Rub gently on your face in a circular motion. Let the mixture dry on your face, then rinse it off with warm water. Follow with a splash of cold water, and your skin will feel refreshed, tingly, and soft.
