Bumblebee you will see that the time goes by sooooo fast. I remember when I had more than a year to go but now I'm down to nine months. As far as you FH goes eventually he will come around but dont push it right now. Now is the time for you to collect ideas and thoughts about what you do and dont like. I started by cutting pictures of flowers , favors, cakes and dresses I liked and ones I absoulutely hated and placed them in a binder and worked my way up from there. Now I can take those pictures to vendors to see if they can make it and for how much. With all you have ahead of you the time will go by quicker than you think, especially if you work like I do and try to plan a wedding at the same time. My FH didnt want to talk to me about wedding planning so I totally started doing things on my own and planning at work, but in the last 2 months he hasnt seen me work on it and he started asking about it....NOW he's trying to get involved! I just takes them a little while longer to get into it. You should still ask him what he likes and doesnt like just to fill him out and make him feel like you still neeed his help ,when in reality we can do this all on our own...:) )
AllieS is right. Wow, I can't believe she has less than a year. Time really does fly by. Bumble... this is what I did,I put ideas together in a folder and gave it to my fiance to look at at his leisure. He usually gave me his input in his own time. Men are funny like that. Just know you are not alone Bumblebeekee!
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
Thanks girls! You guys are the best.
I actually have purchased a wedding binder and have torn out some pages of dresses, and bouqets and cakes that I like from magazines. It makes me feel like I'm working on something. Sometimes I feel like I spend TOO much time working on it and start to feel like I'm a little obsessed:) (GOD forbid!) But my FH has been good. He is opening an account just for this wedding this week, and he even came up with the colors he likes : tiffany box blue, ivory, and silver.....so I'm proud of him....we had gone to some friends of ours wedding and he made comments on what he does and doesn't want and what would and wouldn't do...so thats pretty encouraging too. I even did a little a little write-up of how much things could cost for this wedding and came up with a minimum of about 11,000.00 and he didn't even trip (This is a good thing-trust me!) But you guys are right though...I won't push, and I'm gonna continue working quietly gathering my thoughts and ideas and putting them in my little binder.
Hi Ladies, the budget for our renewal ceremony was set at 7000, but since we are true DIY people so far we are at 6200. We are spending the most on photography, but we still got a good deal on our package because we booked the photographer at a bridal show and he gave us a HUGE discount and free parents' albumns.
Bumble I love your fiances suggestions for your wedding wedding colors, I know that will be beautiful! My fiance and I opened an account also specifically for the wedding. We decided on a budget and put a little extra into it just in case. We make our bi-monthly deposits faithfully. So that is a great start. I also had put together a wedding binder of things that I wanted. You are on your way girl! Good luck!

Bumblebee,do you have a theme yet? What are your colors?I suggest looking around for the smaller, more inexpensive things like ring pillows, etc. and put them up.That way, as you get closer to your wedding date, you won't have so many things to purchase. Also, try checking out places like FSU and FAMU for possible places to hold your reception.Call "The Moon" night club for another possible reception location.Tallahassee has several museums that are reasonably price. How do you feel about outdoor weddings?Check out MacClay Gardens and Wakulla Springs state parks.

Excellent advice Niquey. You know lately I've been watching "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway" and the wedding budgets of some of those people are unbelievable. I believe you can have the wedding of your dreams without going into debt. Planning, & Saving, is the way to go!

Thanks for the advice girls....
Plat, I'm familiar with those places! (The Moon and Maclay Gardens)...but we have decided to actually get married in Orlando, and I actually was thinking (actually in the last few days)of a garden party/picnic-type theme since the colors are "tiffany box blue", ivory, and silver....I also want to incorperate our initials: D & G....so I have been thinking of some things that can include monogramming (very popular now as seen in these magazines)....we will use this "seal" and incorperate it throughout the wedding (on napkins, on the cake topper, maybe on party favors, etc)....
Now that you guys mention it, I will begin gathering the small items....I just hesitate to get anything that would require a date on it because its so far away and we have even entertained the thought of having it sooner....but we'll see. For now the May 3, 2008 date is what it is....
I HAVE seen those shows on Style channel and those budgets ARE ridiculous....and based on what I've learned they could spend a lot less on certain things....

I am always watching who's wedding is it anyways and I love it. I got alot of great ideas from that show. I will say that the prices they pay for things is outragous. I personally cant afford it but I dont think I would pay that much if I could.
We gave the reception site the balance with a certified bank check. The reception site for 300 people cost us $14,000. We've been planning for two years and paying here and there. Grabbing sales, using coupons from Michael's and A C Moore etc.

Hi Marshine I usually catch that show on the weekends on the Style channel. We have Comcast cable and I think it is channel 68. Wow $14,000 and 300 people, girl God is so good to you. Things are really getting close for you, are you starting to get nervous yet?

Hey there...I wish my FH could see this....I might print it out for him....I's so glad to hear that you guys have been planning for 2 years, and paying here and there for that long...I want to start paying for stuff now while I have the extra money from my second job and my Mary Kay business but he thinks we're getting ahead of ourselves....I want to start shopping for a few things, but because he likes to have input, he is hesitating to make a decision on anything, and thinks my looking into places is getting ahead of ourselves.....Plus once I start my non-paid internship in January until August, I can't work as much-if at all. I'm looking to God for some peace of mind here, but its getting to the point where everytime I want to discuss this-even just the little things, he gets so indecisive...but I'd hate to buy anything behind his back because stuff like that upsets him...Maybe I should just chill b/c we've only been engaged a month, and we still have 22 months to go....

Well spoken Ieasha. My FH was the same when in the beginning stages of our planning. I must say that he has come around and things are easier. But since you will be entering into a "non-paid" internship, perhaps you and your fiance should have a conversation. Men have no idea how much weddings can cost.

I will. I will also continue to be in prayer so I can get some peace of mind. You know we can't push them, so I will give it some time and be patient. I do get some peace by gathering my thoughts and putting stuff in my wedding binder...plus me and some friends are going to David's Bridal for my appointment Tuesday night, so that should be fun....Only God can move that man, and for now I guess I will have to deal with that. I have to focus on my school though...I am doing a ton of research for a large proposal for a USDA grant, and we're trying to get some papers published....plus I need to focus on my Mary Kay business and my mentoring program that I am organizing this summer. PLUS now I have to take some of the wedding money I've saved for a new car...my car is now at the point where fixing it is not even worth it. Aaaagh! I am so trying not to get aggravated by this planning stage...and plus its so early in the game! At least I have the vibrides to encourage me. Keep it coming!Much love ya'll....and patience...and peace:)
Wow Bumble you have your work cut out for you! I can tell you will be fine though. Girl you talk about your car, I have to buy one also. I just moved to New Jersey from New York a few months ago and you need a car to get around. I'm a little nervous because I've been spoiled by the convenience of the public transportation system in New York. I haven't driven a car in about 7 years AAAAAAAAAAGH! Talk about intimidation. I have to get it together though it is time. I don't know where the money is coming from, but I believe I will get it. Your fiance will be fine... you make me laugh when you say "only God can move that man". I felt the same way about my fiance too ! LOL.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way. ~ Pablo Neruda
I didn't realize there were so many Cali brides here. The first place I checked out for the wedding was the Casablanca Mansion in Orange, CA it made me soooooooooooooo MAD!!! If we kept the place as a vacation rental w/ no minimum stay it would be $3500, if we wanted it all day as a family reunion or a corporate event it would have been 4500, for a wedding for only six hours 6 hours!! it would cost us 6g's... thats 1000 an HOUR! i was like screw that... So we're getting married @ the wayfarers chapel in rancho palos verdes for $2500 and *tentative* having the reception @ trump national golf course also in rancho palos verdes for 12500 for 150 people if not trump then definitely by the ocean and just rent some chairs and get our two favorite restaurants to cater. My cake is do it yourself, I went to culinary school for 6 months and boned up on baking classes and coming up with different recipes just to be able to make my own cake. I'm a cheap chick... i don't dig paying a gang of money for stuff.

After a week of planning viciously since we changed the date- our budget has already gone up! We found (well really my FH) a place in Orlando that quoted us 8200.00 (incl taxes & the 20% gratuity fee) to do the ceremony in their gazebo area for 165 guests (155 adults and 10 children age 3-11)decorations for the gazebo and chairs, cocktails between the ceremony and reception, and a very elegant buffet dinner with like 3 hors d'oveures, and 3 types of meat, and an appropriate starch, and vegetable, and salad, drinks and all. We are visiting them on saturday. My FH said it won't be a problem getting the money and, and our very good coordinator said it was reasonable. She also said she can get that price way down, especially since the hotel will get double money from the guests staying at the hotel.
But-we decided last night to do an 11:00 wedding, and let the reception be a brunch buffet. Which will bring the costs down some more, but with my coordinator's intervention, we should get an even more reasonable price!
He is dying to go to Hawaii (and this man has never flown b4 and is "not worried" about the 16 hours of flying) but my aunt who is a travel agent found us a deal to stay in the Hyatt at Waikiki for 1300 for 6 nights and a round trip flight for 1300.00 (incl taxes)-meals not included-, but our original quotes were for like 4500-5000! So we're praying!
And we got his ring Saturday! I will pay it off by December before the interest starts in January....whew!
My budget is 10,000 as we are paying for it ourselves. I want a small elaborate affair. I am just not inviting a lot of people (150 or less). My reception site is all inclusive including an open bar and a wedding cake. It is only 5, 000.

I dont see how I can put the 2 together without it looking like Christmas time. Please share some of your sucess secrets wth the sistahood. We would love to hear them....
my budget may be at 3000 to 5000 most of my wedding decorations come from online and target and walmart

I am seeing that not a lot can be done for 20g's if you hire other people. Trump Golf Course is charging 8$ per car for valet + 4$ per slice for a cake cutting fee, & 75$ per person for dinner, gives the space for only 4 hours, AND charges 1k for every hour afterwards up to midnight. I still like the Wayfarers Chapel but had my heart set on being outside on a cliff overlooking the ocean. I found its cheaper if you go with state owned properties but I can't find any that offer the background I want... I think ya girl is being too damned picky... and i think i should stop refering to myself in the 3rd person - haha.

Hi ladies,
I'm new here,
Super Diva you going it really big.. my budget is also low, but the main reason mine is so low is because we are have only a reception. We got married March 04 in my little apt in nyc when I was on bedrest with my twins, but I always wanted a big wedding so we decided last month we will set a date for March 24, 2007. Our budget is 5,000 not to exceed 6,000 So far it's going well. So far I got my Dress, the reception hall ( a hotel that includes everything) and DH tux (which was free because all our Groommen are renting there tux there.
We to are doing the whole wedding on our own (except for my 3 kids tux and flower girl dress which my mom offer to pay for)

It is very true but always think ahead...do I want to eat corn beef and rice for the next 24 months.....if you answer "no" to that question then the rest should be a breeze :-)
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

True, but I'd rather put $100,000 in the bank for a rainy day.The wedding is a one day event for most people but life goes on after the ceremony.

You go missy! I ain't mad at you for doing your own cake

Ours was right around $10,000 (excluding rings). We were truly blessed, no debt and we planned it in only 5 months. I have some pics on my site.

My budget is 10,000 as we are paying for it ourselves. I want a small elaborate affair. I am just not inviting a lot of people (150 or less). My reception site is all inclusive including an open bar and a wedding cake. It is only 5, 000.

Here is the wayfarers website:

YES SHE WAS...
Hi ladies,
I'm new here,
Super Diva you going it really big.. my budget is also low, but the main reason mine is so low is because we are have only a reception.
We to are doing the whole wedding on our own (except for my 3 kids tux and flower girl dress which my mom offer to pay for)
Can't wait to get to know you ladies
