Re: What do you ladies do for a living?
I'm a Food and Nutrition Student going for my MS. I do a lot of research on childhood obesity (primarily middle school age) and chronic disease prevention in minorities. I teach a Nutrition Course for undergrads starting in August, but I have co-authored some publications and grants as a result of that research. I also work part-time as a mentor coordinator for the Girl Scout Council in this area as part of another grant-So I basically mentor middle school girls about everything at different schools in this area. I am on the computer a lot due to the research and I travel a lot with my laptop from my job. I also do Mary Kay on the side. I used to travel on medical trips to help the doctors but my last trip got me so sick I won't go this year. I hope to become an Registered Dietician after I finish my internship next August and maybe work for WIC or the state government as a Public Health Nutritionist. Maybe i'll write grants and proposal to increase funding for WIC or something. I'll guess I'll get my PhD later. I don't have much of a life, but now my FH works in our college in the Technology Division so we do lunch from time to time. But he's really busy too. But Thats me in a nutshell:)
BBK you are quite busy! Between work, school and planning a wedding I see why you have that name. Busy as a bee. Are you getting married in Tally or South Fl.?

you guys have such awesome jobs... I get paid by the county to watch my 15 month old niece & attend Penn State's World Campus taking online classes & do homework by day and contract with companies to do little odd jobs. A family friend owns a cleaning company so I clean offices, i work for my grandfathers travel agency answering phones, typing and doing his invoices, and whenever i need more money I work for a temp agency or find something to sell online... I like the flexibility.

Before i decided to focus my time on my education I worked for Verizon Wireless doing technical support & customer service.

I work my own hours with the Girl Scouts (its part time, but it pays pretty good-its a blessing really)...plus they gave me a cell phone and a laptop with wireless so I am always an office wherever I am. I do childhood obesity research with my major professor in spurts. We may work about 30 hours one week, 60 another, 0 in another week, or just 10 or 15....As far as Mary Kay I am always working that business, especially since I just started. I am nver doing anything simultaneously, and it does take a lot to manage my time. Unfortunately I have sacrificed exercise, but after the end of the year my schedule will slacken....My philosophy: Work hard while you're young...relax and enjoy an early retirement in your 50's!
Don't worry...I do get 8 hours sleep...but some weeks I average 4-5 a day....So its a constant balance....this wedding planning is the HARDEST Job by far-BUT HE'S ABLE!

We've been Happily Married 2 Years and Counting:)

Re: What do you ladies do for a living?

Let's see... for a living I work part-time in retail. My position in in the Jewelry department but I go wherever I am needed. I also work seasonal for H&R Block.

For fun I do an internet radio show on www.cyberjamz.com Thursday nights. I play some newer R&B that doesn't get radio play, older R&B, and some nice soul house tracks. I also host events once a month at a NightClub here in Chicago. I had to slow down life when I had the last baby but these two things allow me to do what I love, music, to balance out all the other stuff life tosses my way. I also scrapbook when time permits.

My full-time job is a mother of 3 children. Working part-time has allowed me to connect and be more involved in their lives.

I had always been in customer service. I did retail for 13 years. I planned several functions for friends, corporate events, and church functions in New Orleans, Atlanta, San Diego, and Maryland just because I enjoyed doing it. When I moved back to New York that's where I really kicked up my game and opened the salon with my SIL.

I have no clue! I like too much stuff! I create resumes, find jobs online, and do interview coaching for my family & friends who are in need of jobs so they say I should charge for that.

I find my family members houses to invest in so they say I should get into real estate.

I was in culinary school, they think I should finish and open a catering company or bakery.

I plan all of our family functions so they say I should be an event coordinator.

I've had ideas of a nonprofit since the arts and after school programs are being cancelled I had the idea of opening one in our area. I made some contacts with the people of Arts Corps in Seattle which had a program most similar to what I was looking into.

I love fashion so they said maybe open a clothing store.

I like medicine and planned on going to apply to Case Western U's dual degree program in Law & Medicine.

I like them all.

I have too many intersts so I don't know what to do.

I wish to God I know because I would be doing it right now. I'm the lost overachiever, that person that is in school forever and has a bunch of degrees & certificates but nothing seems to fit exactly what they are looking for. Yeah, thats me.

FH is an Anesthesia nurse (CRNA). The one thing that everything I wanna do and have an interest in has in common is that they enable me to help people. I am a helper. So I gotta sit back and think about it.

Heys MrsLee....I was like you talent to spare and no where to put it in a lucrative way....So I asked God to position me so that I can recieve the overflow, and I reminded Him that I simply want to be used by him so he can get the glory. I have 2 jobs and I am a full time grad student...plus I have a Mary Kay business that is flourishing very well! There are other things I am good at that I can be doing, but at some time you have to make a choice...(Plus my FH loves my talents-but I can't afford to be pulled in too many directions and not contribute something significant to the family account!)
Anyhoo I know someone, or I have had experiences with all these careers you've lined up, and if you want the truth about them then drop me a note and I'll email you....My mom was in Real Estate, so was I part-time, I have my own business, My fellow grad student in Nutrition also has a culinary degree from Johnson & Wales, and my wedding coordinator is my former supervisor who plans events for our college at Florida State and I was her assistant for a while. AND I work for non-profit part-time, and will start teaching undergraduate students here at FSU next month.....
Just ask God to put you where He wants you to be. All of our talents are gifts, but He has a plan in mind for us to work in some of these....this will also keep you from being pulled in too many directions:)

Happy career planning!

I am a "counselor / instructor" for a not-for-profit agency in Michigan. I mostly work with those recieving assistance from DHS. I LOVE MY JOB! I love empowering people! Especially coming from single parenthood and making it through college, I love sharing my story.

I also teach workshops on interviewing, resume writing and other classes

I am a new nursing grad. This is my 5th or 6th career :). I am currently at home with my 3 children until my husband and I figure out the best time for me to get to work. Nursing gives you flexibility, but when you have a 2 year old at home and a husnabd that travels for work, it's hard. I don't wan't someone else to raise my kids while i'm at work, besides my entire check would go to childcare.

I knew there was something that attracted me to you. Your personality pops off the page Miss Bee and I could feel you! Look to the left and check for that note.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way. ~ Pablo Neruda
