Working it Out

Alright, I fell asleep with the tv on (it works!) and woke up to an infomercial (which I don't normally watch) but this one caught my attention. It's for a workout program called the p90x (maybe some of you heard of it). So I watch it and start doing some research and ordered it tonight! I've tried the gym, workout partner, dieting (which shouldn't be a word but if it were- makes you feel you'll "DIE without IT!) I had been looking for a bootcamp class close to home but all are too far away. Now, I have 3 months to whip into shape and I'm gonna wholeheartedly give this my all and document it the whole way-pain and all. So since I'm putting it all out there- I need to get back to my "normal" weight of 135, right now (I'm calling the scale a damn liar even though I KNOW it's telling the truth-sucking it in to get my fat pants on! LOL yeah it's that bad) So my frenemy the scale is saying I'm at 196 (swearing under my breath). Hopefully the system wil get here next week sometime so I can get cracking. I use to run track and walk A LOT so I'm not completely lazy (obviously not when it comes to eating!) So cheer me on ladies I need the support.
I'm doing it primarily to take better care of myself and so I'm back down to where I need to be. We have EVERYTHING in my family and I don't need to bring it on through unhealthy habits (I confess I had burger king for dinner- SMH- but I did take my supplements AND drank water all day today!)
And I promise (another confession) to stop waking up at 7 am to watch Denise Austin with her overenthuiasm workout while I lay there with my dog and just watch! SMH And I do this ever morning hoping that I will one day join her....lol.

Girl, good luck to you. I'll be cheering you from the sidelines though. I started loosing weight and did well to for a while, then FH said that he has to put his foot down when it starts to affect my health too much. I have sickle cell anemia and the constent dieting is against my doctor's advice, but oh, what I wouldn't give to loose an extra 60 lbs.

I've got my pompoms girl and I'm cheering!!!

So I have been on my diet for 2 months I was 178 and Im now 156. I draw the line at 145. 11 pounds to go pray for me ladies. I have my first dress fitting coming up saturday and im praying everything goes well.

AKitten I wish you luck on your diet plan, you will do great. Just remember its all about motivation and determination. If you have these then you will be fine.

Akitten, I wish you the best!!! I am just like you before I had my kids I was 140-145 up and down and now I am at about 200. I tried all the things you listed but never stay focused. Let me know how it works, I have seen the program but didnt really pay attention.

Re: Working it Out

Thanks ladies! I'm excited about getting the program and getting to it. Good luck for the other ladies who are doing their "slim down" too. I'm a meso-endomorph (athletic-muscular; soft tissue-fat on top)So I have to be careful with some exercises cause I'll start looking like those women who lift weights! (Scary!)I carry my weight well because when people guess what I weigh- they wind up guessing the weight I SHOULD be at. With that being said- that's BAD. Because that means I'm eventually putting my organs under strain from the extra body fat I'm carrying. The funny thing is I'm secure with how I look but not happy that I'm not taking care of my "temple." I'm tired of wearing my "fat" clothes and almost accept it as "this is how it is." I think too many people think that way. So I'm trying to change but it's hard as all get out. Coming from a hispanic (father) and southern (mom is black) background the FOOD IS AMAZING! LOL But it's all bad carbs and sugar and fat (be damned if it ain't finger licking good...LMAO)I've already started modifying how I prepare meals because my fiancee is a firefighter-so keeping him healthy is top priority. But my choices outside of my home is the doozy and when it's that time of the month (I get EVIL if I don't have my white cheddar popcorn and ice cream- it gets REALLY UGLY). Plus I know I need to workout more which is key-just need constant reinforcement and motivation because by nature I get bored quickly with monotonous routines.
Lawd help me right now- I'm craving an almond herseys bar....lol...

My husband and I are on the workout tip, as well. We eat right, but it's not enough to have these pounds come off.
Healthy food + excercise = weight loss
Good luck to everyone on their health endeavors!

I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

That is so true Cinamin1. What I've found is it's so easy to be lazy and working out is so hard until you do it often enough to not feel like it's hard. That's the hurdle that most have to overcome (me included).

Re: Working it Out

I know that's right, AKitten! We started jogging this weekend...after the first mile; I thought I was going to die. But going the past few days, consecutively, has helped. Yesterday we jogged two miles and it didn't hurt this time :-) I've also added weight lifting to my routine (3x a week). I have no muscle tone whatsoever.

Re: Working it Out

You ladies are soooooo right, exercise is the key! We are definitely incorporating more exercise into our routine. I feel a lot better and people are starting to notice. I am finding that I am not so winded when I walk up a flight of stairs. My goal is to be healthy -- I know that I was never meant to be skinny because I never was. I walk to feel and look great and have a regular exercise routine.

Re: Working it Out

Good luck to you Akitten! And congratulations to you Sensationablyhappy:) Exercise is definitely the key, as well as drinking lots and lots of water!! I have fallen off track recently, and I really need to get back on an exercise routine. My DH and I usually take our dog to the park where we walk the track, but we have been slacking off in doing that lately. Once the weather warms up a bit, we definitely plan to make more of a commitment to our daily walks:)

Re: Working it Out

Thanks TiffyB!
Ok, I have an update. My exercise program is on the UPS truck on it's way here today! WOO HOO! (but I'm sore just think about it...lol). I've stopped waking up in the morning and watching Denise Austin workout while I lay there (damn her-always happy...)so it's a step in the right direction! So I'm gonna go through the stuff and watch it and start on Sunday- the Lord can rest but I got work to do! LOL

Re: Working it Out

Day 1- I watched the starter dvd on Saturday, read the materials and purchased resistance bands from Walmart. So today I pop in chest and back (first exercise of the series). The workout is about 54 minutes plus 2 minutes warm up. Needless to say I'm hurting right now....lol. You start off doing standard push ups then pull ups and it keep alternating between the two while it also begins modifying both moves. For the pull ups (I don't trust pull up bars) I used my stair railing which is just as effective. I went at my own pace and made it through the workout- it was hard but I did it! Then there's an ab ripper afterward which I could not do because my legs were already sore from moving brick pavers Saturday (building a brick patio in my backyard-workout all it's own...lol). Looking forward to day two tomorrow morning. Time to rest...everything is ouchie....lol

Re: Working it Out

Alright, I made it through the first grueling week. Wasn't easy but I did it. Had to take 4 days off because I was having digestive issues (thought it was gall bladder...yikes) but feeling better now. I'm actually starting to "harden" up. Some of the exercises, particularly the ab ripper was IMPOSSIBLE for me to do the first time I tried. When the next opportunity came I was able to do all of them but not as many reps as they were doing- so I'm getting there. I bought a new scale that shows hydration level, body fat & weight. The cool thing about this scale is you can actually put in your goal weight and it'll track you progress. If you're interested this is the one I got: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5509339
Well worth the money.
So far the hardest module is the Yoga. It's an hour and half long! You know I only managed to do about 20 minutes.....lol. I'm still snacking a little bit but learning to curb the monster snack attacks. I figure I treat myself with small portions of my favorite snacks because if I don't I know I'll jump in the car head to the store buy a garbage bag full and pig out....lol. I hope the rest of you who are working it out are doing well on your quest. I'll be back next week for a follow up.
