Candles

FH and decided we don't want to do the unity candle. Fh lost his grandmother this past Friday and I was trying to think of a way to make our grandparents who have passed a part of the ceremony.. We decided we want to either take a moment after I walk down the aisle to light candles for each of the very important loved ones we've lost. We're thinking to do this at the very beginning with a short explanation and mention something in the program.
Any input ladies?

Re: Candles

If this is the only time candles will be lit (other than the traditional-parents light the candles, bride and groom use them to light the big one), then this can be done towards the end of the ceremony after the communion or the vows since these are the more solemn parts of the ceremony, and when the candle is usually lit.

In the program, people will know what this special "lighting" will be for your FH's grandmother who passed on (3/7/08). The explanation can be on another page simply recognizing the special role she had in his life in a few brief lines.

Re: Candles

FH and I are doing something similiar to this at the beginning of our ceremony as a memorial to his mother and my son. My Pastor suggested that after I walk down the isle-because FH is going to meet me halfway, before we walk onto the stage my sister will read the tribute and we are going to lay roses down for them at that time-that way once the ceremony starts it will flow uninterrupted; alsp we have In lovimg memory with both of their names on the back of our wedding program under the Acknowledgments-- but I agree with Bumble-your day, your way!!

Thank you ;)
I think we will try to practice it a couple different ways to see how it flows. Thank goodness the minister performing the wedding is a close friend and very patient.
