Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are on the cover of Essence magazine this month. They celebrate 11 years of marriage this year. They were married on December 31, 1997 at an old castle (built in the 1930's) right outside Baltimore, MD.
Besides the fact that I once worked part-time at the castle, what I find interesting about their wedding is that it was very low key for a celebrity couple. It was described as "pricey yet glitz-free." The castle is a Baltimore City owned and operated property. Although relatively nice, it's not the Plaza or some other fancy spot that they definitely could have afforded. It has a lack of heat in the winter time and lack of a/c in the summer. No doubt, they made use of 2 working fireplaces. Jada, a Baltimore native, seeked to keep the wedding "simple but elegant." Love it!
Proposal: Will proposed to Jada in November 1997.
Guest list: About 100 people (including Jasmine Guy and Tisha Campbell)
Flowers: burgundy calla lilies, burgundy-kangaroo paws, white hydrangeas

Decorations: Inside: Velvet draping, sheer curtains, 300 candles, gilded magnolia leaves. Outside: gold flood lights, twinkling lights and burgundy ribbons

Wedding Cake: 3 tiers with 3 flavors: carrot, lemmon poppy, and Lady Baltimore

Groom's Cake: White choclate with a Will Smith Enterprises logo.
Gown: Jada wore a high-necked, champagne-colored, hand-dyed, silk velvet Badgley Mischka gown.
Suit: Will wore a matching Badgley Mischka suit and ascot.
Bride's Bouquet: Pink and white roses
Attendants: 1 flower girl and 1 ring bearer, no bridesmaids, no MOH, no groomsmen, no bestman
Bride's Procession: The ceremony started at 8:00 p.m. Will and Jada walked down the aisle together with accompaniment by the all-male a cappella group Infinity. No one gave her away.
Vows: They read letters to each other
Food: A large buffet table groaned under sumptuous displays of poached salmon and smoked turkey (Pinkett's edict: no red meat).
Music: A Deejay... and Will sang "Gettin' Jiggy wit It."
Wedding Night: Will and Jada left at 1:00 a.m. for a rented condo overlooking Baltimore's inner harbor.
Post Wedding Brunch: The next day some 80 guests gathered there for brunch.
Honeymoon: With their busy schedules, the couple could only manage a shortened, three-day honeymoon in Miami.

I'm not surprised that everything was simple, they seem like the type of couple that are down-to-earth and low key, but that cake is just too simple for them.
Thanks ViPrincess- this is lovely...it looks really authentic you know...I like it
Love them too... wish them many more years to come

I am such a fan of this couple. I think they couldn't divorce now even if they wanted to. It would break every romantic heart. Will was the first actual black movie hero to cross over to mainstream America and now a black President! I'm giddy!
