soon2bmsj's blog

well ladies it is about 5 weeks before my wedding so I thought I would start my blog... :)
**I have the following things completed:
-cater/decorator paid (she is decorating the broom favors, decorating the church/fellowship hall, doing all the flowers, and the catering of the food)
-cake(s) paid in full
-music given to dj for cd favors
-all attendants gifts purchased
-men's gifts ordered (on backorder until 3/1)
-candy ordered for candy station
-honeymoon secured(ust waiting for official itinerary to come inthe mail)
**the following I am still working on:
-programs (ordered paper yeseterday-should be in next wk-but the layout is already completed)
-potpourri favor bags (I will do these the week of the wedding so the "fragrance" will still be there)
-purchased vases for candy (still need to purchase 3-4)
-final fitting (first wkend in March)
-pay for remaining services (dj, photographer, videographer, soloist-will be paid by 3/1)
-marriage license-3/10

Ladies can you think of anything else I am missing?

Re: soon2bmsj's blog

I would review a "day-of" schedule with the wedding party.
Its not too late to get them used to the idea that the wedding will start with or without them.

I would also check on their attire and if its on schedule for arrival and fittings (If this isn't done already)!

It looks like you are on top of things! Congratulations:)

Re: soon2bmsj's blog

Here is where things are attire wise for my party:
-MOH-just went to pick up her dress and had her fitting, her dress will be ready 3/7 (1 wk before-I'm not too happy about this in case something else is wrong but hey, I am tired of fighting this battle
-BM's-NEITHER of them have had any alterations done; they both are out of town, so the only thing I can do is continue to call and check
-FG-I purchased her dress back in Nov.; she also has her shoes so she is ready (although I told her mom she needs to make sure she can still wear the shoes and if not, we need to get her another pair)
-Bell Ringer-has her dress; still waiting on her mom to buy her shoes
-The "men"-they are all going to get fitted 2/23 (minus my uncle out of town) he is getting fitted locally and will call the tux shop the day the guys get fitted)
-I do plan to send out letters to everyone reminding them of the rehearsal/dinner and I will also remind them that night of the "day" schedule.
I AM SOOOOO READY FOR THIS TO BE OVER!!!!!!!!!!!

The good and bad thing about the bridal party is that even at the last minute, they come through and make it work simply because they don't want to be left out! The bad part is that you have to manage to find the patience to hope they will....but once again they usually do, despite all the crap they claim to be struggling with in between.

I know...I talked to my cousin this weekend (one of the BM's) and asked her about her dress and she was like, well I got this, that and the other going on so after this is all over then I will get it done, she said she plans to loose weight and don't want to do it yet "just in case" :(
Oh, and none of the attendants have their dresses yet...we know where they are, but 2 of them are out of town and are suppose to come to town in 2 weeks (3 wks before :( to get their dresses; FH god-daughter has to wait for her dad to get his income tax! I told FH the dress is not but $60 that we should just go ahead and take her and be done with it :(

Re: soon2bmsj's blog

ok ladies-another dilemma...(seems they are popping up daily now)
I have this "friend" D who is kinda/sorta coordinating the wedding. D has really not did anything up to this point, I have been doing the corresponding with all the vendors, making arrangements, getting info to the appropriate people, shopping for the supplies that I need, and planned/coordinated the rehearsal dinner. I have pretty much did everything for the wedding except the food and decorations which my caterer is doing.

D's job will be the day of the wedding to make sure everyone is in their places so the wedding will start promptly at 5, make sure the attendants (who are teens) are at their post signing in guests and handing out programs, the gifts make it to the car when we leave, clean up after the reception, and on Mon. turn in the tux's. what would you suggest I gave him as a "love" offering? I am struggling with this because D is the type of person who is nice as heck but EVERY or ANYYHING that they do, they EXPECT to get paid..I discussed this with my MOH last night and she said just give D whatever I want to give because it should be appreciated because they are on a fixed income and is always broke-then she piped in (in a joking way) but you need to add in gas because they will be using my vehicle to do all of the running around since D doesn't have a car. She said it with a giggle but it was said 2 times through out our conversation and this really bothered me...
1. both of the are ALWAYS coming to me to borrow money (granted they pay me back) but I always give to them what I have without a 2nd thought)
2. both of them have come to me needing rides (especially D) and I NEVER ask for gas money etc...

what do you ladies think would be a fair "love offering" and do you think I should give addt'l for gas money to my MOH, or should I find a trustworthy family member to handle the tasks assigned to D??I really didn't want to do this because I wanted all of my family to be able to enjoy this day also)OR am I making a mountain out of a mole hill???

Re: soon2bmsj's blog

Soon ~ avoid at all cost to give a family member the role of "Day Of Wedding Coordinator". They will miss out on having fun and sharing that day with you. There will be no time for eating or anything else for that matter. You want every single one of your guests to have fun.

As far as this "D" fellow is concerned, since he expects to be paid for everything that he does, I will speak with him and make sure that he understands what you expect of him and please keep in mind that the role of "Day of Wedding Coordinator" truly starts the day before the wedding at the rehearsal and continues up until all is over. Once you have that "one on one talk with "D". Tell him that you're very happy that he would be able to help you in this capacity and wish to offer him a little gift, though it's not much;

I would say that since D is not a professional Planner/Coordinator (whom by the way charges $650 for such a function), I would offer him $200 as a love offering. That should be enough because you'd already done everything and his job would be just to carry them through. I think that's more than fair.

Man ...give that man a hug and maybe a forehead kiss and call it quits!

Who is this person to you? Ok maybe that doesn't matter, but I'm thinking I wouldn't want anything for you, only but to help you and FH! I was a participant in a wedding where I was her "right hand man" before, during, and after ...and still put a hundred dollars in card for them, so that's why I'm confused on YALL paying them, why bc you gave them a title for the day.

If that's the case, give him $50 and forget about it ...(gas and all).

Excuse my manners, I was going to delete this post ...but I wanted to keep it real ...my bad.

Hey T!! missed you around here, but I see you are DEFINETLY back! :)
thanks for the honesty in your answer. Our thinking is alike. I have went out of my way for parties, weddings etc for people and my main goal was to relieve the pressure for the couple or person in any way that I could especially if they are my friend and I never asked or assumed I would receive anything, but again, you have to know D--that is his nature. If you ask him to do anything he wants to get PAID...that is his hustle!!!!!!!!

I also feel there is some "hatin'" going on...I really don't want to believe it, but the more it is coming to light the more I am beginning to see...there have been quite a few other issues that have evolved...like them (D & MOH) discussing me being married before so I should be a pro at the wedding planning etc so they don't see why I am stressing about things, the fact that me & FH made a decision to purify ourselves before the marriage by abstaining for 6 months...that is a big joke to them that they are ALWAYS talking about-because they don't understand why we would want to stop "doing it" now since we have been all of this time (they don't understand that it is a spiritual thing with us)and just other little things that have been said! I am soooo tired of this whole situation. Don't get me wrong, I love them both dearly because they were truly there for me while I was going thru my storm, BUT I wish now that we had stuck with plan A of just doing the intimate wedding with FH & I!!!!! :(

Well in hustling ...sometimes "You have to charge it to the game" ...and this will be one time, he will be charging it to the game.

Stopping stressing about that, you got other stuff I'm sure you can pay more attention to ...:)

Miss you too play cousin ...smooches!

P.S. I definately feel you ...on feeling like folk hatin ...AND always having SOMETHING to say! Just remember ...THEY talked about MY FATHER too, so they will foe sho talk about you. Girl I wish I could fly down and do it for you ...really I do.

Re: soon2bmsj's blog

Soon how did "D" get the job of coordinating? Did he offer to do it or was he asked to do it? Has he done it before and how much "accountability" are you holding him to? I personally agree with Ginoue that $200 is fair but admittedly, like Ginoue, I'm biased on this one. I do think your MOH is out of line though expecting gas money. Just make sure you give it to her in pennies and then tell her to keep the change.

Re: soon2bmsj's blog

**UPDATE**
Ladies, after thinking and much PRAYER-this is how I decided to solve my dilemma:
-omitting my fountain for my cake :( (this will eliminate the need for D to have to return this)
-FH's nephew will return the tux's (this will eliminate the need for D to have to do this)
THIS SHOULD SOLVE THE VEHICLE/GAS ISSUE WHICH MOH SEEMS TO HAVE

D will be responsible for:
-Wedding day, making sure everyone is in their places, music is ready to roll w/DJ, photographer/videographer in place and the wedding starts promptly at 5!!!!!!!
-Reception-making sure the presents are in the vehicle when we get ready to leave the church
-Clean up-this will only be the church and fellowship hall because the caterer will clean the kitchen
My "love" offering to D will be: $100

**UPDATE**
Good morning ladies,
The weekend was pretty interesting as always:
-this weekend attendants are going to get their dresses (all of them are teens so hopefully not alot of alterations will need to be done)
-working on programs-looking for someone who will cut the vellum and hole punch for my ribbon (a sistah is too lazy)will begin printing programs tonight (had to get the ink refilled for my printer :)
-Still waiting on one box of candy to arrive and all of the candy will be received for candy station
-still looking for 3 more containers for candy (I didn't think it would be THIS hard to find different ones but it is :(
-1 out of 7 fitted for tux :(
-still waiting on DJ to get back with me on cd favors
-still need to "stuff" 150 favor bags w/potpourri
BUT......I did complete:
-ALL invitations are out (even to church members that had there's hand delivered yesterday)
-2 more marriage counseling sessions! :)
-More RSVP's and also 5 rooms have been reserved at our "guest" hotel
-touched base with my decorator/caterer and she is on POINT with EVERYTHING!! (YEAH!!)

Girl you sound like me....the wedding was 3/3/07, but I couldn't stop thinking about 3/4/07! Just make sure you all take a plate and some cake to your hotel....you don't want to forget like I did and have to make a Wendy's run:(...nevermind the fact that we only "tasted" the cake, but never really enjoyed much of it.....you just get so busy!

Problems solved!
-went to Office Depot last night and they will cut the vellum for me for .75 per 50 sheets!
-found the PERFECT hole punch at work to user for ribbon holes (of course I will do this on my lunch time...yeah right! LOL)
-FH finished cutting ribbons last night
-got catridge refilled Mon. night and got vellum overlay pages printed! (175)

Isn't it a dang on shame when you have to make them help. I have been going to most of the vendors with my maid of honor, because he works six days a week. He was complaining about not being involved. So I make an appointment to meet with the limo company. He was chewing gum and asking all kinds of silly questions. I was getting mad, but I didn't say anything.

Re: soon2bmsj's blog

ladies,

got a sample of the cd label from dj! I am happy with it, but I did ask him to make 1 change by removing the wording Johnson's wedding and add the wedding date; the Monogram with our names is also on our wedding programs..what you think?!?

Soon the cd's are gorgeous. I agree with you on replacing Johnson's wedding with the date. Nice Job. Will the cd's be wrapped somehow?

Re: soon2bmsj's blog

YEAH !!!!!! I finally figured out what I was doing wrong.

Anyway, I had originally thought of using cd's as favors and this was how I planned to do it.

LOL Sorry to plant the seed of yet another project. At least this one won't be hard to do. hardest part would be finding the glassine envelopes.

Re: soon2bmsj's blog

I know!! I went to the website and they are pretty expensive (especially since a sistah is 1 cents away from being broke)
But I also like the one on the site with the pink ribbon tied around the case, so I might still use the slim line clear cd cases and put a ribbon around it. I already have favor tags on my mini brooms and my candy station "penny" bags so I don't want to "tag" people too much...

Those look nice Soon. I agree, remove the J's wedding and add the date. Try Paper Mart for the glasstine envelopes:

Re: soon2bmsj's blog

Well ladies, today we got 1 more guy fitted--yea!! this leaves 1 Usher that is waiting for his fitting; I also went for my dress fitting today and the dress is still a tad big "up top" so they are going to do some further alterations on it!

I did get my brooms today! :) what do you think?!?!:
