Ladies, have you all tried to plan your own wedding or did you decide on a coordinator(professional or a friend of the family)?
Between work and family, I began to stress with wedding details so I ended up getting a coordinator. However, she is not charging me, but I feel like I need to give here something. What is a good amount to give her without insulting her? I heard somewhere that you should pay your coordinator 1% of your total budget.

If you can afford it...but think about this....if you are paying her, then her duties should be specific with a contract and caters to what you need.
I think when it comes to a "free coordinator" some people may just do what they want to do vs. what YOU NEED DONE! Once you start paying her, she needs to come up with the details, etc....especially if its a percentage of your budget...now if you want to get her a nice gift, thats nice too.....
Maybe Ginuoe is better equipped to answer this....because a coordinator is serious business to me:)I think if you pay her, she should give you the full service! Anything less with all the work they do is hard to figure out....
But I just thought about this: 1% of a 5000.00 budget is like 50.00, so I know that no good coordinator will charge that little.....maybe 1% of 100,000! But thats still low!

Hmm, wedding coordinator.. Personally I'm going to try to do it myself.. well with the help of the Hotel coordinator.. Has anyone else done anything similar?? Is it possible to do it all yourself.. with the help of some devoted friends?

Hi mrsmoose091308. Your coordinator gets 10-30% of your budget in most cases. Research your coordinator well and ask if you can get references from brides AND Vendors! They work really hard to save you money and a good coordinator will save you THOUSANDS not to mention reduce your stress levels...especially if you let her do her job. :)

Thanks Rosie....10-30% sounds more like it.....That being said, go all out to get the work you need done....Thats what we pay them for! I guess what I was trying to say was that for the work they do, you can't pay them enough, so working it out formally to ME is the best way to go per Rosie's suggestions:)

Hello there mrsmoose,
Rosie is absolutely right. No self respecting coordinator will ever charge 1% of any budget for all the work that she or he would put in to your wedding coordination. Some coordinators charge anywhere from 18 to 30 % of your overall budget. Particularily, I have set fees, pending on the package that my couple have chosen up to a $20,000 budget. Beyond the $20,000 budget, I charge 20% of the wedding budget. You may find this the same for most coordinators. Most have different packages for different types of services. Be careful in choosing your coordinator that all that you require are part of the contract. A coordinator just makes a lot of sense because she is your go to person. She/he will deal with all the stress for you and you can actually have fun!!!
Thanks Ladies. I knew I could get good advice from you all. She came highly recommended by a co-worker of mines, and in talking with her, she knows my entire family so as a favor to them she says that she's providing her services for free! But still I feel I have to pay her something. I have to admit she has taken a lot of my stress away. She has found everything that I want almost 50-70% of what I was going to pay. She even got my reception hall to add more to our menu. So with that being said I am so happy that I have her and I know that I will be able to enjoy our wedding day!

Good for you mrsmoose and since she's not charging you, volunteer to send her some pictures of all the hard work that she will do for your wedding in order that she may have them displayed on her website and please after your wedding, do go to her website and write something spectacular about her services. A great endorsement from a satisfied couple goes a very long way.

well the person that is doing my wedding is not "per say" an official coordinator, but she does everybody's weddings at the church and she gave us a pretty good deal also; she is doing EVERYTHING but-the favors (which I purchased but she is decorating) and the extra's like the medallion for the blended family ceremony, the favor bags and the candy to go inside
[quote="Teresa1167"]I hired a wedding planner just the a day or so ago.She is also doing my floral and decor for ceremony and reception. She also will coordinate the rehearsal and ceremony. She also will be doing the layer programs and favors also. And the invoice was 2100.00.I thought that was to much. What do u think guys? Also I am renting everything from them (centerpieces, chair covers, floral, ect.)

Depending on how many guests & what type of centerpieces, I think the $2100 is a fair price.

Theresa, from the pics the craftsmanship of the centerpieces appear good. I suggest before signing a contract that you have her make you two to three mock ups in your color scheme using the flowers she plans to use in your centerpieces so you get a real feel of what your day will look like. Also ask if you buy the flowers yourself, what would her price be. I say that because, although the craftmanship is good, I think the flowers she used in these pics aren't the best quality.

I like #1.
I planned my wedding myself, but I did use a coordinator for the day of, so that I wouldn't go crazy worrying on my wedding day.
