Congratulations to all of you on your weddings. This is a fantastic website, finally something that caters to black sistas.
I am not sure if there is a post like this already, but I got tired searching through the forums. I am getting married in New York in August 2008. I am an out-of-town bride and am having my ceremony and reception at Douglaston Manor. I was just wondering if any of you ladies from the area would share some suggestions for some vendors you used, like djs, florists, etc. I would really appreciate any input at all.

Welcome to the sisterhood Blissful ~ I have a lot of vendors that you might want to check out and Douglastown Manor is a wonderful place. I've had a lot of weddings there. I don't know what your budget is, but...
Florists ~ you may want to check out
1. Marine Florists ~1995 Flatbush Avenue ~ 718-338-3600 ~ They have a bridal package of $399 that includes bridal bouquet, MOH bouquet, 3 BM bouquets, 2 corsages and 7 boutonnieres. They also have a Ceremony Package of $299 ~ which includes 2 altar arrangements on stands, 8 pew bouquets, flowers and bow. They aslo have Reception packages for $299 as well that includes 10 Centerpieces
2. There's also Henry's Florists ~ 8103 Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn, NY ~ 800-543-6797 ~ with wonderful packages: Ceremony $299, Bridal Package $399.99 and reception package of $599.99 ~ 10 table centerpieces, 1 Dais and 1 Cake decoration
3. Floral fantasy ~ 718-998-7060 ~( I use them a lot) for $350, you get 1 bridal bouquet, 1 MOH bouquet, 3 BM bouquets, 4 Mothers corsages, 1 throw away bouquet, 1 Groom boutonniere, 8 usher boutonnieres.
I don't know if you have Photography and video, but New York Bridal & Wedding services are great. They have a photography package for $999, I think and it includes a lot of things, you may want to contact them. Their videography is also the same price, I believe. I don't know what else that you'd be needing, but if you give me your max budget for the vendor that you need, I'll do my best to give you a name and number within that price range. Again, congrats to you and your FH and happy planning!!!

Wow you ladies are truly amazing. I really appreciate all your help and welcome to the site. I will definitely look into those vendors. I don't know how much is too much to pay for vendors so my plan has been to compile lots of them and compare to see which is the best deal. Because I am not living in NY I was starting to get very frustrated because alot of sites don't post prices. I also need a dj, someone who will play good calypso, reggae and the like. The New York Bridal & Wedding services site seems interesting, so I will definitely consider them, but I heard that alot of these all in one wedding centres lack on quality. I will still check them out though because they certainly seem convenient. We also need an officiant (non-denominational) and hair and make-up for me.

I've never had a complaint as far as the florists listed below nor the photography/videography of New York Bridal and Wedding Services because I only use those 2 services from them and they're great at those two things. Now don't get me wrong, they will try to get you on other services, but I can only vouche for Photography and Videography. As a wedding planner, I've used a lot of vendors and had to learn my lessons the hard way. Trust that I would not steer you wrong. Ultimately, the decision is yours to make, but know that I'm here for you, whatever the advice.
I have a great DJ in mind for your music, they're a bit pricey, but when it comes to calyspo/reggae, they're the tops for me. I haven't use them in a while, but will give them a call to get an updated price list from them, as well as checking on their possible availability, just in case you'd want to use them.
For Hair, according to my past bridees (I haven't used them personally), there's no other than "Clem Lue Yat ( The Mane For Hair)" located at 1655 Flatbush Avenue, 718-951-1993. I think they told me that they do make up as well, but I'm not sure. When you call them, you could ask.
I've also heard of a place called "Color Me Beautiful" they do hair and make up, they're at 2117 Utica Avenue, Brooklyn, 718-377-4587.
I'll keep working on that DJ for you.
