Re: Birth Control
Hey ladies- I use the IUD- and it is wonderful! I have tried everything, natural (ended up having to take the morning after pill regularly so no!) - pill (weight gain) and the injection was the absolute worst- mood swings, no sex drive, spotting all the time and no period) For me the IUD is perfect because i always feel broody and I cannot have any mistakes after an abortion in the past :(. the IUD is no mess no fuss- I have no problems with the sex drive and because it does not contain hormones- the doctor told me that i can keep my particular type for upto 5 years and that when i take it out- I can get pregnant immediately! Its well worth asking your doctor about
My friend who has a 4-month old got the IUD and she loves it. She breastfeeds exclusively-no formula), and she says there are no worries about passing hormones to the baby. Most doctors also recommend that low-dose BC pill (I forgot the name) for women who breastfeed too, but want to space babies....Breastfeeding CAN stop your period for a year, but you may still get pregnant...But many women don't....It only works if you are exclusively breastfeeding, so I think after 6 months you have to start something....

My friend currently LOVES the IUD, and says she doesn't have problems in that area...As a matter of fact her Boy Friend is even more attracted to her with Breastfeeding his son, and all her weight loss from it (she had to fight him those first few weeks until she got the IUD at 6-weeks)...so its definitely working...She is not skinny, but everyday I see her, she is losing losing losing. As big as her baby is now, her stomach has flattened out! She was about to wean early, but she doesn't feel like going on a diet, nor to the gym so she decided to give it a year....! All I can say is WOW with her experience!

Re: Birth Control

I had a brief encounter w/ depo while in college and had a terrible reaction so my dr at the time switched me to Desogen which i took for 8+ years (childfree i might add) and that was a lot more manageble in terms of side effects and such. Def. look into the IUD, my sisters and friends have said ALOT of positive things about it.
All the best soon2bmsj.

Re: Birth Control

Update on the IUD- the only problem I really had with the IUD was heavy bleading- I went for a change (I had it for 3 years) and the Doctor recommended Mirena- she said that it would make my periods lighter or non existant- BUT it contains a low dose hormone- lower than any pill. Ladies - I am normally anti- extra hormones- but frankly compared to 99% pass rate and also no or little periods this is probably the best combination I can have - I can keep it in for upto 5 years !!

Re: Birth Control

I thought about getting Mirena as well but didnt hear of enough ppl having it to tell me their experience with it. I liked everything i heard about it from my doctor but i just wanted more confirmation.
