Hair appointment help!

Hey ladies. So my sister is calling to set up my wedding day hair appointment and I am just wondering if those who have already been through it can give me some advice on a good time to schedule the appointments. The thing is that there will be at least 5 of us going, so I am nervous about staying in the hair shop all day. The wedding is scheduled to begin at 4:30pm, and I plan to start on time. What time would you all recommend we schedule the appointments to allow enough time to get back and get dressed and be on time for everything? I'm hoping to be at the church no later than 2:30pm. My bridesmaids and I plan to get dressed at the church, so do you all think arriving at 2:30pm will allow enough time to get dressed and put our make-up on? It seems like it will, but for those of you who have actually been through it already, you might have a better idea of how things will really go down that day!

By the way, I forgot to mention, there are several people working in the hair salon, I believe 6 or 7.

Hi TiffyB,

Wow, time is sure moving like a rocket for you!!!. In my experience with bridal salon on wedding day hairstyles, especially for us wonderful black beauties, it takes about 4 hours to do your hair on your wedding day. If you plan on getting to the church by 2 - 2:20 PM, I would suggest booking the appointment for 8:00 AM for yourself and your ladies. I'm glad that there are other stylists there. That only means that you will each be able to have a stylist concentrate on your hairstyle, instead of taking turns, which could easily turn into a 6 hour event.

I'm concerned TiffyB, you didn't mention when you and your party is scheduled for pics. I think that if you and your party get to the church at 2 PM, that should be plenty of time for make up and getting dressed. You should all be done by 4PM, which means that your wedding will be able to start on time at 4:30PM. If you're taking pictures afterwards, the timeline is perfect.

Have fun girl!!!

I would do a morning appointment-like 6:30 or 7:00 AM....It would be even better if you can do it the night before...Imagine waking up in the morning, and all you have to do is fix you hair a little, and then you'll even have time to relax before you get dressed......As far as taking other BM's with you, you all need to be first. If there are other people in front of you, its unlikely you'll be seen as soon as you walk in. I did a 6:30 AM appointment for my 10:30 wedding...then got dressed at the church. I went alone because my 2 BM's wore their hair the way they wanted...as long as it was done nicely....I didn't want to have to worry about it.

Tiffy it really depends on what services you are getting done and if the stylists are doing other appointments besides the bridal party. Try to be the first appointment of day so stylists don't have a chance to get backed up and remember to get any chemical services done beforehand not day of wedding. Coloring if any about two weeks before or even earlier if it's a major color change. Any facial waxing should be done about a week before.

Thats some doggone GOOD Advice with GREAT points PAM....I have seen/heard about some disasters! Fresh color (depending on the process) can bleed.....waxes look reddish the first couple days....Oh and those facial peels....I would give it at least 2 weeks! Don't try any new facial products on wedding day...you may break out! I got my perm a week before my wedding...so I just needed a wash and set on theday of.....Saves time too!

Re: Hair appointment help!

You're right Ginoue, time really is flying by! I am so excited:) So for your question about pictures, they are scheduled for after the ceremony. And Bumblebeekee, if I'm not mistaken, I believe my sister said that they will close the shop that day during our appointments. I have to double check with her on that one though. And your idea of getting my hair done the night before is a great one, it's just that we have the rehearsal/rehearsal dinner, so the timing might be a little difficult. Thanks for your advice ladies, you to Rhony! I know how long we can stay in the hair salon at times, that's why I want to make sure we don't make the mistake of scheduling the appointments too late and risk being late to the wedding!! I'll be sure to pass this info on to my sister before she schedules our appointments.

Great! I'm glad their closing the shop for you! That will help tremendously...If you are getting a sew-in, that could take a while so make sure you talk to them about how long that takes too. When I was considering getting one My stylist suggested I get that done a few days before the wedding, and get it styled the morning before the wedding.....plus with a practice run (you alone) a couple weeks before, you may be looking at 2-3 appointments in all.

I don't know how I missed your post Pamcrow! This is good advice. I definitely won't need any coloring or facial waxing done, probably just a touch-up which I plan to have done a week or two earlier. I will check with my sister about whether or not they plan to close the shop for us, if not, I'll let her know to make sure that we are the first appointments of the day! Thanks Pam:)

TiffyB- I am not sure about you- but even for an ordinary day it takes me ages to get ready- I agree with the ladies- get that hair appointment as early as possible. At my best friends wedding she actually got up before everyone else and started at about 6am and then all the other girls followed an hour or two later- it really helps with congestion and nerves. Think about having time to spare..its better to have plenty of time to reflect, sip champagne and look in the mirror (always helps). Whatever you can do to calm your nerves and just enjoy the experience

Thanks Bumble and no problem Tiffy. For my wedding I had a 5:30am appointment with wedding which started at 4:00pm. My stylist had completed me, my daughter & step daughter by 10:30. If we didn't get the major services done beforehand it would have taken much much longer.
