Hi newlyweds.....Well, this is me and DH's first Thanksgiving and Christmas together as husband and wife....We finally figured out where we'll go without hurting feelings...These next few weeks will be tough cause we are traveling a lot....Now I don't know if we can possibly keep this up EVERY YEAR after this...I am even planning to make everyone travel to see US next year.....Does anyone (Newlyweds, engaged couples living together) have any advice for future years? What have you all done to make the holidays....HAPPY?

Girl I need some. My FH and I thought that we would be here with his family on Thanksgiving and go see mine for Christmas, however my mom is begging us to come there for Thanksgiving. I don't think she is used to or wants to share us on the holidays. I told her we don't want to buy 2 sets of plane tickets so close together, and she said she will pay for them.
When we have kids I have no clue what we are going to do.
Real love requires a minimum of emotion and a maximum of the will - Bishop Keith W. Reed, Sr.
Me and FH are going to three sets of house holds which really sucks. My parents are divorced so I have to go to my mother's (Jersey), then his parents(Jersey) and then my father wants me to go to his house(Virginia). I dont know about all this especially after my car crash yesterday, I am scared to get into a car!
Each One Teach One!
Most of my family is local. The only family he has in our area is his mother and two brothers. My family has get togethers ALL the time so holidays aren't major in my family. Just one more get together. His brother is married to my godsister, so our local families mix alot anyways. We are always around each other, one big blended family. Whenever he wants to go visit his other family members in North Carolina or Brooklyn it's never an issue. We see my family so much that it's a welcomed change when we do go visit his.

Our first ThanksGiving together was spent at OUR house. Our relatives understood because we had just got married. This year, we will be spending our ThanksGiving together again as we are celebrating our first anniversary.
His parents are deceased. My mom is very flexible and understanding. Hopefully next ThanksGiving we will be able to make our rounds.

we will travel to spend Thanksgiving with my family; last yr it was with his...Christmas is ALWAYS at home because my analytical son wants to know "how will Santa know that I'm at Granny's???" I really believe this is the last year he will believe in Santa though because he's already start asking questions... :)

FH and I had been doing the separate thing but now that we're in our house we're trying to figure out a plan. i always cook for home, even if we're going visiting. Both his parents are deceased but he has some aunts that will have a fit if he doesn't make an appearance!
Thanks for the feedback....I guess this a big issue here too. Like ieasha said, we too will be house hopping all over FL. We will visit his parents on Thanksgiving, then see my dad and his family right before Christmas, and he manages to sneak in one more visit to his parents who live halfway between Tallahassee and South Fl on the way to see my dad, and then back to North/Central FL to see my mom and her family, and then back to Tallahassee on Christmas day because as a new employee for the Health Dept. I have not accumulated enough leave or senority to take any extra days off and have to be back to work by the 26th. Needless to say DH is off for 2 weeks (PAID) for the holiday because he works at the University and is chilling....He will be getting a big Honeydew list....(Honey do) list and projects over this "break" while I'm working....

Well, it is somewhat simple for us... We visit DH family for Thanksgiving dinner & go to my family's home for dessert... We'll go to church with DH family on Christmas Eve b/c they love the holiday for all the religious reasons. For Christmas we will wake up at my parent's home b/c my family loves the Christmas holiday season (decor, gifts, music, etc.) & open presents then make our rounds around town until we've seen everyone... Christmas will end with DH & I enjoying a romantic evening.
Sounds like a great plan....Planning ahead makes it work better I presume.

Well ladies, I just found out FH has to work on Christmas Day! :( all of my family is out of town and since we traveled there for Thanksgiving I won't be going back for Christmas; any ideas of how we can still actually celebrate even though he will be working? (from 3p-11p)

Soon!!! What are you talking about? You still get to enjoy sleeping and wake up with your FH. You can make a very special breakfast or a personal brunch in order to enjoy the day together. Girl please, you have him all night an most of the day until, say 2PM( because he have to get ready for work at 3PM.) A lot could happen and when he gets home, if you're looking to do something that's more adult for just you and him, why not plan on the time that he'll be home (11:30 - midnight) and light some candles and run a rose petal path from the living room to your bedroom (more candles in the bedroom to give it that softly kissed by the moon look) and sit and wait for him on the bed with nothing but a red sash on and as he enters the room just say softly (Merry Christmas). Trust me that's all he'll need. And if you guys have children in the house, that's the best thing because you did the gifts with the children in the morning. You did the family eat together thing in form of a brunch and when your FH gets home, it's adult play time. I know you know this Diva Mrsj. (LOL)
good ideas G!! but alot of times his schedule is from 3-11 but he doesn't get home until about 1 (working ot) and a sistah ain't as young as I useto be...my bedtime is about 11! :)
Thats okay. My stepdad works a similar schedule, sometimes on holidays...I tell my mom to plan a big breakfast for him, and send him some home cooking with him to work....She is often in bed sleep when he gets home too....
But for you, Ginuoe had some great ideas....I would even open 1/2 the presents on Christmas Day, and the rest on the 26th.....I know its tough, but hang in there....its just one day! You have many Christmases and other holidays to spend forever.....I am sure you have some great ideas to continue to make your Christmas special:)
