Pre-Marital/post wedding counseling or classes

Abeni brought this up in her blog, and we talked about this about a year ago but I couldn't find the original..

So at my church me and then-FH attended a Marriage and Engaged Couples Class right when we got engaged, and 2 months before the wedding we did about 4 counseling sessions with my Pastor (In FL a certificate of these counseling sessions with a Pastor or counselor from an approved list saves about $30 also). After that we still do the classes...

They were both helpful and a great experience...Anyone chosing to do this or NOT chosing to do this? Any unique experiences?

I think it's a great idea! I'm going to check on it to see what's available in my area.

My Pastor does require marriage counseling for his church members. I also think it can be helpful and informative especially with the divorce rates so high now. also, it gives you alot of spiritual guidance in preparing you for the marriage roles according to the word

I attended pre-marital counseling classes too. They were such a blessing for my husband and I. I would definitely recommend for anyone that is getting married.

My pastor requires it too and I'm excited to do it.

My pastor requires a pre-martial session. It's a one time session where he asks us a bunch of questions, makes sure we know what we are getting into and answers whatever questions we may have. Ours only took about 30 minutes to do. I think it was just to be able to say "okay, I met with them and they realize how serious marriage is"

my aunt is preforming our ceremony, and she is having a session with us. it's kinda hard to schedule cause he is outta town and he works so much (60-70 hrs per week). so i am going to kentucky thursday to visit him and we are gonna find someone there to do a session together to give us a totally unbiased session, and then we will continue with someone here once he gets home.

Our parish priest requires that we attend church counselling sessions for at least three months before the wedding. One of my best friends did it and she said it really helped them.

It can only help you both understand why you want to enter into marriage and consider the importance of making such a committment to one another for life.

We've taken the pre-marital counseling. No unique experiences to note, though. I thought it was great.
