Caramel Apple Favors

Ladies, I am having a fall wedding and we are serving caramel apple martinis for our signature drink and also a non-alcoholic sparking apple cider punch. I really, really want to do caramel apples as favors, rolled in nuts and all wrapped in cellophane with pretty ribbon and a personalized tag. I know I can make them for way cheaper than some of these companies charge to do them. But do you all think it's worth it to try making and wrapping 200 caramel apples? Do you like the idea? Do you think guests would like it?

Honestly the cost and time involved to make them individually, you might do better buying them.

Bama, I think it's good idea. I would suggest going to Sam's Club for the apples and caramel mix. You can send one to me so that I can test the product for quality purposes.Lol!

Suggestion though, you may want to make some without the nuts added just in case you have guests that are allergic to them. By the way, you may want to check out the farmer's market for the apples instead. You'll probably get a better deal and fresher produce instead of Sam's Club. (I deliver to produce markets all of the time).

I would love a caramel apple if I was a guest. Great idea but ALOT of work to do 200. You would definetly have to get your bridal party to help you. I suggest doing a test run to see how long it takes to do about a dozen and how long they would keep for. That way you can plan accordingly.

I agree with pamcrow. If the trial run comes out good, then go for it. Get your wedding party involved and have an assembly line going -*singing* "Put in the stick! Dip the apple! Roll it all around! Wrap it up! Put on the tag!""

Re: Caramel Apple Favors

Im actually doing those apples myself as a favor.

I love the look of them and I think its something that the guest will appreciate.

The site I found was:
http://www.caramelapplegifts.com/shop/wedding.php

I think trying to make those apples for 200 people would be a bit much. I think that trying to dip those, wrap those and wait for them to slightly harden would add stress.
Relax and just place an order for what you need and let someone else do all the work!!!

Bamabride, I love the idea. But I must also admit that it's a lot of work. Yet, if your entire bridal party will help, I like the assembly line idea. Definitely do some without the nuts and I've also volunteering my mouth for quality control (you know) lol!!!

bambabride, that is such a creative idea! For 200 people, I would try to find the price and the amount of time for making the apples and then find prices for buying them as well. Either way, I wish I were there to get one! Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. House, I love those examples you found. Here's where I am with this now -- If I come across the extra money to purchase them, I'll do that. But if not, I'll forget about it because I already have a couple of other DIY projects to do and I don't want to stress myself out. SO, if I'm not able to get the apples, I'll do this instead ...
Get some caramel apple flavored jelly beans, fill some cute martini glasses (plastic) with them, wrap those in cellophane, tie a ribbon matching the wedding colors around it and put a personalized label on. It's still a DIY project, but not nearly as difficult as making the caramel apples. What do y'all think of that?

I think that is a nice idea. How difficult would it be to make the apples yourself? You could even delegate and give each bm a certain amount to do such as maybe 10 each. You could get your mom involved and fmil.

Re: Caramel Apple Favors

I am doing something similar as my place card holders. Except I am dipping them in caramel and then chocolate (since i am doing a chocolate theme). It is definitely cheaper to do yourself. I am having my bridal party help... and my fiance and i are going apple picking for the apples... I don't know how much it costs for caramel apples dipped in nuts, But I am saving $8.00 per apple at cost..and $18.00 if i were to buy each apple retail! AND.. it's got more meaning if you do them yourself!!! put the money towards something else!

Future, the online RSVP thing is working out OK. I mean, it's easy to use and SO convenient, but only a few people have actually gone online to do it. Several people went ahead and mailed their cards back (we did stamped envelopes as well to give folks 2 ways to RSVP -- NO excuses, right!!).

Well bamabride, definitely don't stress yourself out. As you've said previously, you've got other projects to do. If you could get everyone to help out and you still want to do it, then it would be cheaper to do it yourselves.

Hello ladies,

I read how you were going to dip your own apples for favors and I strongly suggest that you do not buy caramel from Sam's and try to dip the apples because if you do not purchase the correct type of caramel (and there's several) you will have a big mess.

I suggest you purchase them from reputable company whose business is caramel apples. Here are just a few that produce wonderful apples.

Richland Gourmet Apples
Apples of Eden
Mrs. Prindables

You will not be disappointed with any of these companies

Welcome to the board prettylady!

We order caramel apples for my son's fundraiser every year from a subsidiary of Mrs. Prondable - Affy Tapple. So fresh and so good! Matter of fact we have our order coming in Saturday!

Carmel Apples? All I can say is "where is the reception and how may do I get to take home" I think I've just regained the 5 pounds I just lost by reading this blog. Great idea, I would purchase over making them and the carmel apple jelly beans in the martini glasses sound too cute.

Re: Caramel Apple Favors

If you do the jelly beans start hunting now, because all the flavors are not around all the time...At this point, you still need to get about 10+ people to do a "favor party" to do the apples or the martini glasses so consider that. If you don't find caramel apple jelly beans, do a mixture of the green apple and caramel flavored jelly beans (two different types so you'll have green and tan colored jelly beans) in the martini glass...But hunt now, cause those Jelly beans are tough to find special flavors.

your right about the colors and flavors being a little difficult to find at times Bumblebeekee, I remember having a time finding blue and gold for my daughters graduation. There were 2 sites I visited jellybelly.com and www.bulkcandystore.com
