As an older BTB, cooking will be no problem for me. I'm a great cook and have had a couple of recipes published. My FH also has mad cooking skills and we'll take turns at the stove. I'm curious: do any of you younger BTB have cooking skills? Who'll do the cooking-you, FH or both? Please don't say eat out, pickk up some Micky D's, or eat at mama's house! You'll break my heart!!!!!

LOL!!!! I loooooooove to cook! My family originates from the south so I know how to do the pig feet and the neck bones. And as much as I like chitlins (chitterlings for those with a spellcheck) I've never cleaned them so I'm getting lessons this winter (wish me luck! lol)
I've made up a few chicken recipies myself. But I've got to say my favorite chicken dish is soy sause marinated chicken mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Now about FH....He thinks he can cook...He really does and he's trying (...::bursts out laughing:::) and it's getting better. I showed him how to make country ribs in the oven and he did very well with that. Other wise he claims to be a breakfast king.....
I really want to call him a "burn yourself king"....He's always has the fire to high and leans over the fire with long sleaves.....

Abeni, you've got me laughing at your FH! Let him be the breakfast king so you can get breakfast in bed! Train that man, girl! As for cleaning chitlins, try to find Queenella's in Pitt. They're pre-cleaned (supposedly) but I still look them over to be sure. I don't want to see anything that's not supposed to be there. Do you like a good pot roast? I've got a recipe that will make people think you spent hours in the kitchen prepairing a fancy french dish when all you do is throw the meat and seasonings in a slow cooker for 8 hrs. I've got tons of recipes. Holla if you need anything!

LMAO!!! I bet that's a sight to see. Hopefully, he'll get it together.
As for me, I love to cook but I don't get to cook at home much because I'm always on the road. I LOVE collecting recipes though. I've been told that FH can cook his a** off but he's never cooked for me, he always wants me to cook.

Mom is a caterer and the only one of my grandmother's children that can cook everything! Everyone else has a specialty, LOL! I picked up a few things along the way but actually really learned to cook from my stepfather - he had more patience! I have never been a "box" type of lady because I wasn't raised on it. No Kraft Deluxe or Ragu here! I do all the cooking but FH is a BBQ king - man I love the summer!

I love to cook and my man loves to eat so I will be cooking alot. I grew up watch my mom and all her sisters in the kitchen so I can make a lot of stuff from scratch, but when i get stuck, help is just a phone call away.

ladies...I'm a sixty girls with a 90's kitchen! LOL naw...I can cook "some" things but I don't do alot of baking :( but hey, I am a busy woman with a very busy schedule and a 7 yr old so Mickey D's and kraft mac & cheese is on my weekly menu!
FH-does chili dogs qualify as cooking?? :)
right now i live with my roommate and she has a 6 year old son. She can't cook to save her life, so I'm usually cooking at night. You should check out 30 minute meals by Rachael Ray and Semi Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee, they have good quick, very easy recipes that make life a lot easier and you are still making a healthy meal for your family.

I'm a big fan of Paula Deen on Food Network. Her fried chicken recipe made me forget my mama's! I'm also a fan of Marv Wood because I like low country and Creole cooking. I really miss his show on Turner South. He's was one of a few black chefs on TV. Maybe Food Network will pick him up.
As for FH, the first time I went to his place, he whipped something so tough on me, I was whipped before the night was over! He fixed his homeade lasagna! Baby boy had a girl speaking in tongues it was so good! THE LASAGNA!!!!!!
What God has joined together let no man put asunder...
Lol@ renee on the lasagna issue.

Both my husband and I can cook. I like to cook but don't get to cook all that often, I'm liberian, but was raised here in the south so I can cook both Liberian dishes from my family and american foods. My husband is from Columbia, SC and cook his butt off too! The way we've been doing it is whoever get's home first cooks.....it's been working....
I cook all the time, and my fiance LOVES my cooking. My friends joke and say I "cooked myself up a husband." His favorite dishes are my seafood lasagne, brown sugar-bourbon glazed salmon and my German Chocolate cheesecake. He can cook a little bit too, but usually when he does it's something on the grill.

You all are making me hungry! Send me directions to your houses so I can stop by when I'm in the area. Lol!

I consider myself a pretty good cook, but I'll buy a bottled sauce in a heart beat if it saves me time. My problem is with baked goods. Other than sweet potato pie, I haven't mastered the baking from scratch thing yet. I'm determined this Thanksgiving I'm going to make a 7-up cake worth talking about. I tried making one last year for the first time and it wasn't anything to write home about.
DH makes a banging steak and could win an award for his Jerk Chicken but everything else he makes, me & my daughter aren't in any rush to eat. I don't complain because at least he does put forth an effort from time to time. We just have to doctor it up some more.
"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"
I throw down and cook Sunday thru Thursday (we usually eat out on the weekend). I always knew I'd do most of the cooking. My hubby can cook too, but I'm always giving him tips & 'tricks of the trade'. One thing I'm glad he stopped doing was cooking on HIGH.
I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

I love to cook and bake and cook 6 days out of 7. FH is a great cook also. Although, he's been joking lately and said that he will stop cooking as soon as we move in together in December. Usually, FH and I cook together, when we're together. He loves everything I make. My mom was a Cordon Bleu chef and I learn a lot of fancy dishes from her, but the foods I find comfort in the most is southern cooking. Now, because of my health, I don't eat pork ( I loved my Ham Hocks ), but I substitute with smoked turkey whenever possible.
You ladies are great. Everyone cooks!!!
Sounds like some of y'all got it going on and you've got the good sense to marry a man who can cook too!
Bama bride, can you share your German chocolate cheesecake recipe with me?
Platinum Style, drop by this Sunday for Scallops Provencal with herbed basmati rice and for dessert-caribbean nana puddin'.

Girl, I ain't Philly! I'm in peach country of the SC upstate. I'm making that cheesecake! here's the recipe for the Herbed Basmati Rice.
Herbed Basmati Rice
1 cup uncooked long-grain (white) basmati rice (recommended: Texmati)
1 3/4 cups water
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
2 tablespoons minced fresh curly parsley leaves
1 tablespoon minced fresh dill leaves
1 tablespoon minced fresh scallions, white and green parts
Pinch freshly ground black pepper
Combine the rice, 1 3/4 cups water, the salt, and butter in a small heavy-bottomed saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat; reduce the heat to low, stir once, and simmer, covered tightly, for 15 minutes. (I need to pull the pot half off the burner to keep it from boiling over.) Turn off the heat and allow the rice to sit covered for 5 minutes. Add the parsley, dill, scallions, and pepper. Fluff with a fork, and serve

Bamabride cheesecake is one of the 1st desserts I learned to make (I like the no-bake kind best)! I will have to try this one though. I made a turtle cheesecake one year that was off the chain! Maybe I can do all three at once and have me a mini-Eli's over here!
i cooked for my FH four days after we met. he told me when he tasted my potato salad, he knew i was the woman for him!!!

I didn't mean to cause any confusion. I know that Renee is in SC. I was asking if she would meet me on I-85 (in SC) with a plate. I was coming from Alabama and had to pass through SC to get to Philly. Ladies, thanks for sharing these recipes. Keep them coming!

With the holidays approaching, I thought this was a good topic to bring back up. Any recipes you want to share?

Ladies,
I am so blessed. My FH is a chef. He does most of the cooking but I LOVE to cook. He cooks most of the time since he works days and is home before me. Otherwise I love to pitch in and help.

I think it's wonderful that so many of us can cook. You know what they say about "the way to a man's heart..." I know when I was dating, men would be surprised that I could cook, like they weren't used to it. I throw down some Virgin Islands and Southern cooking. I like to bake too. I always love to learn new recipes. It makes me feel like I'm creating! My husband can also cook, so we do that together. I want to make sure that he stays in the habit because my mother says that when she met my father he would cook very well. However, growing up, my mother did most of the cooking. He only cooked when she was in the states or something like that...and it wasn't too good.

I cook...DH does not. I am not a big baker though, but since we got married, DH has gained about 15 lbs.. LOL
Yes, as a younger bride, we can cook, too. I do most of the cooking, however, DH comes in every once and a while and cooks dinner.

I am usually my MIL's second in command for big holiday dinners...she just relishes the control..lol. I'm happy to hang back and learn her recipies on the sly..the dressing is ALWAYS my baby tho!

I do all of the cooking in our home my dh can only cook oatmeal snd if it left up to him that would be our breakfast menu every morning, he has a special request menu this year turkey, dressing, mac and cheese, greens corn muffins, potatoe salad, ham, candied yams, sweet potatoe pies, and my kick a** banana pudding and this is not your mamas banana pudding either he will help but only long enough to get on my nerves so that i wont ask him to help anymore lol.
I love to cook and my FH says that he can't wait for us to be married because he enjoys my cooking so much. He can cook too and very well I might add, but he says that he would help me during the cooking for the holidays.
I love to cook. I always loved experimenting with food since i was little. I stayed in trouble for going outside my limits of what i could mess with in my mom's kitchen. Now that i am home, I get to try more new recipes and such. DH loves it. He can cook but doesnt because i always complain that he moves too slow. lol
