Need help planning B-day

Hi Ladies. I'm helping a cousin throw a surprise 50th Birthday party for her mother and we are looking for theme ideas. The Honoree is a minister so it can't be anything to over the top. The honoree mentioned once that she would like a Caribbean theme but since changed her mind. My cousin wants something that shows the caring and giving person that her mother is. I came up with two options.

1. Have a Hollywood/Awards night theme, complete with red carpet. Decorate everything using the colors black & Gold. We could present a some sort of Humanitarian Award to the Honoree.

2. I did some research on important events that occurred in 1957 when the Honoree was born and discovered that all paper currency printed after 10/1/1957 used the motto "In God We Trust". Since the Honoree is a minister and was born in October 1957, I thought we could use this somehow as a theme but I'm not sure how to tastefully and elegantly decorate with a dollar bill. Wouldn't want the wrong impression about Honoree.

Any ideas ladies? I especailly need help figuring out favors.

I'm not really in favor of the dollar bill theme. But I really like the Hollywood star theme. You can really go over the top with that one. Red carpet, velvet rope, flash photography, stars with her picture/name in it.
Do you have an i-party store by you? they have amazing decorations. They have an evn bigger selection online. I bet you can also get a ton of tasteful idea by just looking at the site.
Good luck, let me know what you come up with!

How about a bible themed party. On each table there can be diffrent bible verses.

One of my coworkers turned 50 last year and we had a kind of through the decades thing. They used tombstones but you can use something else. Tombstone #1: 1957 - Pat was born. This was in style. A house sold for $$$. RIP 1957. Tombstone #2: - 1967 - Little Pat is in grade school. Favorite activities included xyz. RIP 1967. etc for each decade.

I like the Hollywood theme personally. You can have her exit a limo onto the red carpet. Lots of flashes. A song medley with a song from each decade - each person dressed as the star that sung it!

Ms B, no I don't have a i-party store but I looked on www.shindigz.com and they have some really nice decorating ideas that I can't afford but could easily duplicate.

House, I like the bible theme idea but part of me thinks that although she is a minister, she wants something "Fun & different". She had so much fun at my "Sex & The City meets Girlfriends" themed bridal shower that she approached me then about helping plan her B-day party.

Future, I think I can use the decades thing. Thanks for the idea. My cousin mentioned she wanted to display pictures of the honoree at different ages so I think we could use the ages in pictures as table numbers. For example Table 0-5 has pictures up to age five. I love the song medley idea also. The Honoree has 3 sisters that can blow, they were the ones who sung "Can I build my Home in You" at my wedding. I could have them do this part.

So I think we're going with the Hollywood theme. What do think would make good favors?
