money dance

Has anyone heard of the money dance? I saw it on a couple of movies where the bride was dancing around and people put money on her. Do anyone think this is appropriate or is it too lap dance-ish?

Welcome to the board atownswifey! We talked about this before. Search under "Dollar Dance" and it should come up. When is your wedding?

Yes I have heard of that. It's when you pay to dance with the bride. I believe that is started years ago probably in the south. I wanted to do that because any extra money is money well spent, but I didnt want anyone pinning anything on my dang on dress.

Re: money dance

Welcome to the boards atownswifey! I recently attended a wedding of a doctor that I work for. He is Nigerian and they had a money dance during one of their ceremonies. The groom had to start of the dance, by placing a $100 in her garment to prove to her father that he can take care of her financially. Then everyone else joined. The folks were placing big bucks! I felt kind of bad, because I think I was the only one that place a $20.00 bill on her!

Re: money dance

A neighbor of mine gave me a good idea that I would like to share with everyone. As everyone has stated, any extra money will help. My neighbor told me to buy a plant that looks like a tree and staple money to it to start a money try. What do you ladies think?

Yeah check under the post that says "Dollar Dance" we have posted there recently. If you don't want anything pinnd on your dress, then do what my brother and SIL did just last month (another 7/7/07 wedding). Make a cute bag for yourself to collect the money in trimmed with lace or details similar to your dress. My brother (who neglected to get a bag for the occasion...) simply had one of his groomsmen collecting the cash for him while he danced with people...It ws so funny to see our grandma "pay" to dance with him...ANd her little nephew with $$ in hand ready to dance!

Atown I dont know if that will work, because if i attended your wedding and saw a tree like that I would wonder what it was for, and 9 times out of ten walk right past it. I think the dance is a good one. You can have the emcee annouce it.

Re: money dance

I wish, I know we go by your day your way over here, but I mentioned it to my mama and she was totally against it. And then I remembered why. My Godsister got married and had a money dance, but it turned more into a grindfest, that in my mom's opinion and mine was very reminiscent of a strip club, so my mama said no money dance, I'll just give you some money, but please don't do the dance, lol.

Oh goodness...a grindfest?.....who was grinding? the people coming up giving her money?.......all I did was sit in the middle of the reception hall....and people came up to me and put money on me....in my tiara.....in my lap.....on the floor.....it really did turn out nice...I thought it would be a little awkard but it wasn't...I guess it all depends on how it's done....

It would most def have to be done classy! Think of the scene from Soul Food when he was dancing with his ex at his wedding! No no - none of that!

Re: money dance

BUMP...ANyone doing this? The one I attended also used like a caribbean/african beat when they did it....Like said earlier....its too cute to see the little kids with money in hand to dance, and the grannies and aunt's giving their money to dance...

Music choice, atmosphere, and encouraging all ages (grands, parents, kids, aunts, uncles) to join will make it fun and cute instead of overly sexual, and uncomfortable, like I thought they may end up being....

Re: money dance

We are going to do the dollar dance at our reception. This is something that has been done at the majority of receptions that I have attended in the past, and they are always lots of fun! I guess this is a little different than the money dance, which I've never seen done before! Sounds like fun though:)

Re: money dance

I think its usually called a Dollar Dance....Most people give more than a dollar so I guess people just start saying "money dance"
