Hi everyone,
I'm new to the board and have an idea that I would love to get feedback on. I have a wedding theme in mind -- Sweet New beginnings. The wedding favors are candy bars that say Sweet New Beginnings with pictures of my and my husband-to-be around the age of eight or nine years old. My latest idea is to have mini cakes on every table to serve as the centerpieces. Any thoughts, other suggestions, feedback??
Thanks in advance :)

Girl is Winkfield your last name. Where are you from? That is my mama's last name.
Oh and welcome.

Welcome and Congrats Rwinkfield! I think your ideas are great and very cute! I love the favor idea. In fact, my aunt (she has a side baking business) made cheesecakes for a wedding last summer. She placed them on square mirrors. Silk rose petals were also placed around the mirror and the bride added candles to each side. They were simple but beautiful and when the bride and groom cut the cake, a guest from the table was asked to cut the cake at the table. It was a pretty cute idea and made it easy to pass out cake as well! She also made the bride and grooms' favorite cakes, like carrot, chocolate, etc. and placed them in the same fashion. Hope this helps...and again Welcome to the boards :)

Looks like we may have some long lost cousins lol
Hi Winkfield. Welcome to the board! I am using the individual cakes as centerpieces for my wedding, too. There will be a 10-inch round cake on every guest table, in a variety of different flavors. The cakes will all be decorated with ivory frosting, dots, our monogram and fresh flowers on the top. The caterer is placing the cakes on crystal cake stands and she will sprinkle rose petals around the base, and put some votive candles around the base as well. I think it's a great idea -- you save $$ by combining the cake/centerpiece into one cost, and it really does get people to mingle when they walk around sampling the cake flavors at other tables.

That good have some cost savings depending on the number of tables.
Bama where have you been?
Probably so, my family is mostly from West Virginia, however we have some relatives in Pennsylvania as well.
I noticed because Winkfield is not a common last name.

Winkfield is my first husband's last name and he is bi-polar :) so hopefully he is not related to anyone here. LOL!! I actually just went back to my maiden name, which is Womack.
Anyway, I spoke to a lady that made mini cakes for a wedding once and she said alot of cake was wasted that way. I think I'm going to stick with this idea though because she don't know my family...they will take whatever is left in a heartbeat.
My colors are ivory, gold, and wine. The tablecloths are ivory with a gold overlay, the chairbows will be gold. I was thinking about spreading black magic flower pedals (dark burgandy) around the cakes..maybe have the cakes sitting on something with a little height to add some drama and ivory candles?? What do you guy suggest?

Good taste - those are my wedding colors!
FutureMrsKeepUp,
You have great taste too! :) Let me ask you, what color is your dress and what color is your husband-to-be wearing?? My dress is creme and I was thinking about a wine color bouquet and having my husband-to-be wear creme as well. I saw an episode of Who's Wedding is it Anyway and the groom and groomsmen had on creme tuxes and gold accessories but for the life of me, I can't catch that d&^$% episode again, so I'm lost right now.
Describe your set up for me...we don't run in the same circle...maybe I can "borrow" an idea from you.
p.s. I have been on those "chicken dance" bridal sites all this time and now I've finally found a home! {{sniff, sniff}}}
My gown is ivory w/ gold detailing around the bodice and train (there's a pic in the Beauty forum under "KeepUp's Dress").
FH is wearing an ivory tux with a Mandarin collar, and a gold vest and tie.
MOH and MatronOH will wear gold dresses with wine accents. BMs will wear wine dresses with gold accents.
BM will have black tuxes with gold vests. GM will have black tuxes with wine vests.
Think of it like this: ivory in the center spreading out to gold and then wine.
My bouquet will have black magic roses and calla lillies, or I might do all callas, haven't decided.
Welcome Rwinkfield,
I think mini cakes are a great idea. Here's an example that might be helpful. The cake is ugly but the presentation is nice.

Future, girl, I have been moving. FH and I are now officially living in sin for two months until the wedding. Heehee. Also, I had a flood in my apartment during the move, so that had me really busy. All of my furniture had been moved already, but there were still lots of shoes, and clothes and boxes of pictures and stuff still in the apartment. A lot of things got wet, but not too much was ruined, praise God. Anyway, I'm baaaaaack!

Well welcome back!
Sounds good! I think I'm in love with this site :)
Welcome rwink!
I'm in love too. You have gotten great advice. Loving the cake centerpeice idea.
I was just about to say that Musk, that is ugly. Did you watch the bridezilla show where she did that and had a whole heap of trouble.

Here's another one where each guest got an individual cake and it has IvyPrincess' colors. And its nowhere near as ugly as the first one i posted.
Ok this is my last one for the day.

No. That last one look like a childs birthday party. Too many colors. I didn't mind the first, with less flowers though.
What is black magic roses?

Now if that's what you want to do...THAT'S how it needs to be done!
Thanks so much! I proposed this idea to my germ conscious fiance last night and he was like, "Uuaa! The cakes are going to be sitting on the tables all night and people are going to be talking over them...spitting on them..." Like he don't spend half his time in Old Country Buffet :) I still think it's a good idea.
BTW, I forgot who asked but black magic roses are a wine, dark burgandy color.
