Someone handed me a flyer today for a Superbowl Ski Weekend. As I was reading it, it occurred to me that it's probably going to be a huge singles meet-and-greet type of event. I thought to myself, you know it would be fun to socialize with other couples. So, I went in search on the internet and came up with this website:
This is an international website that allows you to join or form groups in your area in regards to your interests. So, I joined a couples group to do some fun activities together, a Christian married couples group for fellowship, and a movie lovers group. I think this is an excellent way to meet new people who share your interests, especially if you're new to an area.
Here's what their website says:
Meetup is the world's largest network of local groups. Meetup makes it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face. More than 2,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities.
Meetup's mission is to revitalize local community and help people around the world self-organize. Meetup believes that people can change their personal world, or the whole world, by organizing themselves into groups that are powerful enough to make a difference.
I really like the set-up on this website compared to others that I've seen, and I like that all the groups are in one place. Have any of you ladies joined groups on meetup.com or any other sites like this? Would you be interested?

You almost have to do something like this to find people with similar interests.
This isn't exactly the same thing, but I've went online to find people who missed playing kickball back in the day. I found an organization where we meet every Sunday or Thursday evening during the summer to play kickball at a local park. I met some friends and get to be active while playing an old jr.High school game.
Oh, I also saw a kickball group on the site. There seems to be something for everyone. I'm too excited! I went back and also joined a group for amateur to pro photographers, and I'm sure I'll be joining more in the future. I told hubby about it last night, and he was all for the couples groups. When I was single, I went with a friend of mine to a singles event, and I'm thinking it was probably thru this site because the name sounds familiar.

That's good to know. Thank VIP! I'm going to check it out. Butterbean, I sure miss playing kickball and going to the skating rink.
I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

ViPrincessBride! I went online and there are so many interesting groups! Thanks for the information.

Many of your churches may also have married couples or engaged couples ministries. The one I used to attend had a nice ministry with both married & engaged couples. Of course the married couples would get together for out of town venues that required shared hotel stay. But they did a lot of BBQ's and dinners together as a whole group.
I think these special interest groups are so important for couples and couples getting married. Transitioning from singleness to coupledom can be a little traumatic for independent men & women or for those who have a lot of single friends......So having these typpes of groups with like-minded people are so very important....That just a little of MHO

That's true Bumble. Our old church home was starting a married couples ministry, but we started attending somewhere new that doesn't have one yet. The congregation is really small, as a matter of fact, but that's something I'd be interested in having there.
