FH and I have decided to change our date to Jan/08. I was thinking about setting the date for New Years day since everyone will be off of work anyway. Also Pittsburgh winters are notrious for getting dangerously cold near the middle of Jan. ( I even went so far as to research the weather last year and I do believe our New Years weather wasn't that bad.) What do you ladies think of about a New Years day wedding?

What's that a Tuesday? It could work. Your main issue would be locating a venue that is open and not already booked - or can be cleaned up in time from the party the night before!
I would check the prices on things. Since that day is consided a holiday the prices may be higher.

That would be nice, start the year off right, girl.
I came up with three things you would have to think about:
1. Alot of your guests may be still recuperating from a night of partying so you could end up with more no shows than normal.
2. People will be recovering from Christmas shopping so it may have an effect on what you receive as a gift.
3. It may be a difficult time for out of town guests to travel due to weather. Plus hotel prices are normally higher around New Years which may keep some people from coming.

FH's church has a reception room downstairs inside so we'll being doing it all in the same building. I didn't think about people not being able to brings gifts due to the holiday though. But even if I moved it to that Saturday folks would still be hurting for money. The weather might be to bad to move it back to a later time in the month though.

Well that works out great. Good luck in the rest of your planning process.

I think it's a great idea. It will be a fresh start for your marriage. A new year, a new life. You have a lot to do though because it's so close. But I'm so glad for you that you guys came to an agreement about this. In terms of the gifts, if you let eveyone know about your wedding before the end of the summer, I'm sure they'll include you on their Christmas lists.
Abeni, will you guys be able to find an apartment by then? Have you come up with another plan?
Yeah, because that is something to think about. You guys are going to be putting out a lot of money, but God will take care of it. He'll open up a lot of doors for you.
Thanks Mrs J. We decided to move it January 5th after considering things like the places we might need to get last minute things from being closed and out of state folks having to pay more for flights and hotels.
Mrs Keep Up we'll be able to find a place. You can get a nice apartment here for around 425 plus gas and electric. The classifieds are always full of apartments for rent so we're keeping watch for apartments in the area of town we like.
Thank you all for all of your encouraging words.

I wish! In Chicago all the apartments are being turned into condos and 425 will only pay the gas bill! My mortgage is about $100 more than what I was paying in rent!
Dang, Pittsburg is cheaper than little old Toledo? Now I know that the world is coming to an end!!!!!! $425.00...........I wish!
Yeah, in Tallahassee, FL we pay 470.00 (going up to 500.00 in august for a 1/1 apartment, but the houing market here is so bad, we are not in a rush to buy. We are saving soooo much money right now by staying put. My brother's 1/1 in ATL is smaller and they are paying 625.00/month, which is still really good.
Its good and bad where ever you go:) You can't live in a n apartment forever, but if millionaires and 6-figure folks can rent, then so can I.

Lawd hammersey! I'm so jealous! My rent is $1300. Thank God I don't have to pay this by myself. Because I know I couldn't make it. Where I live, as most places, depending on where you live determines your rent. On my side of town, that's just the price, but on the other side, you can definately find something for half of my rent. I have kids, so that was priority when looking for a place. But, if I didn't, I would definately be on the other side. lol
Sept. Bride I'm in the same boat with you. My rent is 1245 for a 1/1 in DC plus I pay electric which is like 150 a month. So FH and I have that, car note, other bills, wedding and new home to pay for...CRAZINESS!!!
Hate to hijack this thread but my rent is 1125 for 2/1 in Cali and i don't hope . . . i WISH my rent was 425! Go head, girl.

I feel you. My $1300 is just for rent. I still have to pay electric, gas & cable. Plus other bills and wedding. It's killing me! lol
Well thank God FH works for Comcast because because cable and internet are free and the phone is reduced.
I' glad you get that Comcast free... Between that, internet, digital cable with premium channels, two digital boxes, one of them HD/DVR or whatever, we are looking at 100.00 a month just for the daggone cable/internet!....But I am still lucky. My mom lives in Palm Beach, FL in a 2/2 with garage in a beautiful complex, but the rent is like 1200.00 and she has a pet, so add some more on that....plus the rent went up....anyhoo, it definitely depends on where you live, so I will NOT complain about the rent.....
