Hi all,
My fiance and I have been living together for 2 years now, and when I went to go try on dresses, my soon to be mother in law thought it was inappropriate to wear a white gown. She was trying to push me into a cream colored one. I have always pictured myself walking down the aisle to meet my future husband in white. But I don't want to get off to a bad start with my future mother in law. Should I give in?

Should I wear white?
Hi all,
My fiance and I have been living together for 2 years now, and when I went to go try on dresses, my soon to be mother in law thought it was inappropriate to wear a white gown. She was trying to push me into a cream colored one. I have always pictured myself walking down the aisle to meet my future husband in white. But I don't want to get off to a bad start with my future mother in law. Should I give in?
Hell yeah you should wear white! Especially if you don't have any children. You are a first time bride after all and therefore a virgin briode! lol. White symbolizes innocence anyway not virginity.
I am a dedicated romantic. Oh yeah and a dedicated Trekkie too. LOL. I love this site!
Why would'nt you wear white? It symbolizes purity. Besides even if you were carrying four kids it's your first marriage and white is quite right. Even second brides can wear white. Have the wedding you always dreamed of!

Hi Ladies and Congrats to all new brides! About this whole white thing...I've read in dozens of books and some websites that a white gown (historically and traditionally) really has nothing to do with how *ahem* "pure" a bride is; it was actually a symbol of wealth in the first wedding ceremonies. Only the richest brides could afford that much white fabric, so the whiter and more elaborate the dress, the more money a couple had. The veil is the symbol of "purity and innocence". Most of the "normal people" married in -- RED gowns...think of the scandal THAT would cause today! Either way, lady, wear your starch white dress proudly if that's what you want!!!! Congrats again!!!
I agree with everyone here....WEAR YOUR WHITE GOWN... this is your wedding and you should wear what you want. Mother-in-law need to mind her business, that's not nice of her [unless she is buying the dress]. I lived with my first husband 10 months before we got married and I wore pure white...no I did not have children but like you I always dreamt of getting married in white dress. Go with your heart, if you don't, you will beat yourself up over it. This is your wedding not your mother-in-law or anyone else for that matter. People will talk and there is nothing you can do about it...when they are tired, they will stop. WEAR YOUR WHITE DRESS....and make sure you gat a long train [lol]...that'll give em something to talk about. IT'S UR DAY....like Nike says JUST DO IT.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
I went to a wedding where the bride wore white and her son gave her away. Where whatever you want. I've even seen the bride in red and the bridesmaids in white. It's all up to you!
I admit that I really love unusually colored gowns
too, Gerri. There is a
Red Oriental Princess that takes my breath away. I love gold and red gowns, which are really popular in Italy. White wedding gown became traditional in the west with Queen Victoria. Before that the bride wore yellow! lol

hmmm I really will think about it! We were to renew our vows on the Adventure of The Seas in Dominca, but my brother in law and his long time girl friend saiid they would come along then decided to get married on the same ship! So I opted out. :(

For some reason, the link to the red oriental gown isn't working for me. Could someone please send me a note so that I can see these gowns? They sound phenomenal!!!
