What do you do with the engagement ring during the ceremony? My left ring finger is smaller than my right, so I cannot fit my engagement ring on my right hand.

I would simply have my maid of honor hold the ring until after the ceremony then I would place it on top of my wedding band. Some wear the ring around their necks as well.
Or the engagement ring can be cleaned and place on the ring pillow with the wedding bands and be slipped on during the ceremony with the bands -and so they can be blessed also.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Thank you Rosey (blushing cause I feel so proud)also advise them that the wedding band (never ending circle) symbolises a never ending love (that's why it is round) it should go on first. It is said that the vein on that finger goes straight to the heart and that is why the weddig band is first - so it is closer to the heart.

Charly, That's a great idea to have the engagement ring blessed at the same time. Very clever indeed. Now I've heard of the vein in the finger leading to the heart part but I don't think anything will be wrong if I put the engagement ring on first. It just so happens my fingers are slim and I have to wear a ring guard with the engagement ring and when I tried on my wedding band with the engagement ring with the wedding band first there was a slight gap because of the ring guard. When I tried it on with the wedding band last both rings fit perfectly. They were flushed together like peanut butter on jelly. It looked great that way and I didn't need the ring guard on.

Wow, I've always wondered which ring should go on first. I see so many ladies wearing the engagment ring first or vice versa. I guess it is just a matter of preference. I think I will go with Charly's suggestion and wear the wedding band and then the engagment ring. I like the explanation about what the wedding band symbolizes. Thank you so much.

My engagement ring has never been blessed and I want it blessed as well. Had a conversation with FH last night and we will keep my engagement ring with the wedding bands and have them all blessed together. I just love this site.

Ok FH plans on getting my a whole new ring set because he wants us to have simular bands and he didnt like the ont tat goes with my original wedding band (which I am wearing with the engagement ring because it looks better wit it than without it). So should I also get my "engagement' ring bless to even though I will have a whole new engagement ring to match out bands? Should I also wear the original engagement ring set on my right hand during the wedding?
This is all new to me. I always thought it made sense to have the engagement ring first because that is the ring that the fiance gives his woman, then when the wedding comes, the wedding ring is slipped on afterward. I always wondered why I saw women wearing theirs the other way around. I think, in the end, it is to each his (or her) own.

Welcome, chocl8grl! The reason the wedding band goes on first is because of the thought that the vein in your ring finger goes straight to your heart. Your weddding band is the MOST IMPORTANT ring and therefore is closer to your heart.
Ah, all these romantic thoughts.
I heard that the wedding ring goes on first, then the engagement ring.
Because the engagement ring is removed if the woman's doing gardening or something and doesn't want it dirtied. But the wedding ring is never removed, that's why they're in that order. :)
