What was the scariest thing that happened to your hair? Mine was letting my sister weave my hair with synthetic weave. Lord! I looked like a freak. I had foolishly tried to hot curl it amd it frizzed up so bad. Also it "locked up" and I couldn't get it out by myself! lol

Mine happened about 10 years ago. I was giving my hair a rest from relaxers. So I grew out my hair back to its natural texture for three years. I got engaged, so I started to think about how I wanted my hair to be for my wedding day. I went to a salon to get my virgin hair a relaxer. Then, I had my soon-to-be aunt-in-law do my re-touch. Finally, I had my sister's friend do my relaxer.
I should have never let this woman do my hair. It was a relaxer that you can purchase at a beauty supply store. I usually mix the relaxer with the activator, but the girl told me she would do it. I said okay. She started to apply the relaxer, but for some reason my scalp felt really dry. She said maybe it was because I knew I was getting a relaxer and it could just be mental, nerves. I usually get the itchy scalp before I get my relaxer, so that sounded reasonable. Well, she proceeded with the process. But all the while, my scalp felt really dry. She finished with styling my hair. I noticed on the counter that the jar of the relaxer looked a different color. I had somewhere to go that day and I was rushing. I didn't think about the jar until later.
Two weeks go by. I'm putting my almost shoulders length hair into a ponytail when clumps of my hair was in my brush. I'd panicked, "What in the world is happening?" Well, I started to go through all the products that I used on my hair. I had been using the same stuff for months now. Then I thought about the day when I got this girl I knew do my hair. THE JAR! She did not mix the base with the activator completely. It was streaky when it should have been one color and consistency. So my hair ended up breaking off to a pinch of hair from the nape of my neck to the crown of my hair. This was three months before my wedding day. I couldn't sue the girl because she didn't have a license, but she has styled my hair before. But I never had her put any chemicals on my hair until that day. I had already decided to wear a wig if I had to on my wedding day.
Fortunately, my hair did grow some and I got a friend that took cosmetology and had a license, to do my hair. She put some weave in and my hair was beautiful. But still to this day, I still talk bad about the girl that destroyed my hair three months before my wedding. Today I only go to one stylist to get my hair done.
I learned my lesson: Please don't, don't, and do not let everyone do your hair - only licensed and reputable stylists and salons.
I tell this story a lot! lol

i let a friend glue weave in my hair and although it looked nice, it was my first time having glue in my hair and after a couple of days i wanted it out! well no one told me that i need to wait atleast until the glue got a little old or use some glue remover. well i am trying to rip out this weave and of course my hair starts coming out too and everything got all tangled and knotted and i was crying. i tried putting eggs, cooking oil (dont laugh-lol), grease, and any other substance that i thought would help get this weave/glue out my hair! i was about 16 and had to go to school the next day so yall know i had to get that mess out my head!! it took a good 3-4 hours and my hair was SOO damaged after that!!! ughh
My Prayer: Dear God, get me to that altar in one piece with my brain in tact!!!! Only 7 weeks and counting....
As soon as my FH and I started dating, I became his shampoo girl. I would wash, scratch, & grease his hair all the time. About a year passes and he's anxious to return the favor. 'When are you going to let me wash your hair'...he says. One day, I decided to let him was my hair. I tried my best to talk him through the process (because washing long & thick hair is much different than a man's low-cut fade). But my hair still came out tangled to the 5th power. I tried not to freak out & applied some Porosity Control to my hair (which is what I use to get tangles out normally)...that still didn't work. At that point, I was mad, nervous, crying & shaking. He got extra nervous; his eyes started to fill with tears. I ended up having his mom comb out huge clumps of my hair. Hasn't been the same since. Its long but not as thick as it used to be. Ever since then, he swore not to ever wash my hair again. Which I feel kind of bad about, but not really.

Cinimin1 You are toooooo funny! [LOL] I bet you are glad he won't touch your head again! My hubby insists on PERMING my hair. You heard right. [sigh] The big giant afro clumps sometimes... But it makes him so happy to do it. I just go to a hair salon every 3 months and hope they can fix it. Now THAT'S LOVE! [lol]

Perming? Oh my...couldn't even imagine. You really do love your hubby! LOL! If I would've caused the damage on my own, I would just wack it all off & start over, BUT he "loves my long hair" so I took extra pride in my hair maintenance...I'm teaching my fiance how to part hair. He also insisted on polishing my nails this weekend (during our power outage thanks to Katrina), now that was funny & enjoyable for me. We'll stick with that.

Polishing your nails??? You are treated like a queen, girl. [lol] My husband is one of those people who has to do everything that anyone else can do. I used to wear acrylics before my baby and he thought I would let him do my nails! I actually drew the line there. Some PROFESSIONALS will screw up your nails. [groans] He doesn't do to bad a job on my hair. He can't blow dry worth a damn though! [GIGGLE] But, he is the apple of my eye!

Rosetta, you have me crackin up over here. Why do our men insist on being able to do any & every thing? The things we have to deal with in the name of love. :-D

LOL!!Ladies, I don't feel so bad now. My story: About 8 years ago, I wanted to go blond. Since I worked in salons previously, I went out and bought my bleaching kit. The color turned out fabulous!!A few weeks later, I needed a relaxer but I was too scared to do that myself (knowing that I had bleached hair). So I told a friend and she suggested her friend who "does hair".I went to the girl's house and let her relax but it started burning soon after she applied it. She washes it out, styles it and I go home. Two days later,my hair started coming out in bunches, especially in the top.I went to her house and acted like a straight fool, she called the cops, and I was told to leave.Come to find out later, another girl that was in there the day I got my relaxer says that the other used a SUPER strength in my hair. She wasn't licensed, she was a student. AAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!! Needless to say, I ended up going to a professional and getting my shoulder length hair chopped down to 1 1/2 inches long and a serious comb over to cover the huge bald spot in the top. Every time I saw her in the streets, the police were called on me because I raised some serious hell!!!Lol!

Lord, you ladies are going to have me sent to the nut house - I'm sitting here on my lunch hour laughing so hard I got tears in my eyes! Well my horror story happened about a month ago. I am happy for this site, because now I can deal with this without crying. I went to an African Braiding salon and had my hair braided (corn rowed) -- whenever I get braids I usually get box braids. I informed the stylist that the braids were too tight and it felt like my bottom lip was being pulled to the back of my head. I sprayed all kinds of leave in conditioner, I let the shower run on my scalp and after a day or two it did seem to feel better. I left the braids in for about four weeks. When I took the braids out, I noticed that I have a bald spot right smack in the front (middle) of my head! The hair isn't growing back yall. I don't know what to do. I wear my hair natural. You can't hide a big bald spot. I'm concerned for how I look right now -- oh my goodness I don't even want to think about my wedding. After reading some of your posts, I tell you I'm am being very careful. I'm considering going to a dermatologist -- cause my hair isn't growing in that spot.

DaughterRhonda, you said that it's been a month.Maybe the hair was pulled out at the roots. If so, that doesnt necessarily mean that it's not growing. It just means that it will take longer to see hair growth results.Have you tried Doo Grow Triple Strength Revitalizer?I used that in the past when I had thinning edges. But,I agree, you also may need to see a dermatologist.God Bless!

As a matter of fact I just bought the Doo Grow Triple Strength Revitalizer at the suggestion of my 15 year old daughter who reads all of the hair magazines and is always telling me what to buy. I have only been using it about two weeks. I got the number of a dermatologist that a friend uses and I will be making an appointment. Thanks.

DaughterRhonda, how are things coming along with your hair?I got another story for you.I was about to relax my hair in December and my fiance offered to do it.I didn't think the was a good idea so I allowed him to wash it out.I explained to him that if the lather was still pink, we need to keep rinsing until it's all white.Well, needless to say, he missed a little at the nape of my neck.I ended up with some breakage. When I showed him, I can tell the he really felt bad.I'll continue to let him shampoo my hair just not if I have any relaxer it in.Got love him for the effort though.
Born Blessed!
PlatinumStyle my hair is growing again and is no longer breaking. I am so grateful. You have to love your man, I agree he gets a "A" for effort.
