Here's my dilemma, I started with 4 bridesmaids and a jr bm. Somewhere around the 3rd-4th month of plans, no one has budged to get fitted for a gown. The wedding is 3 months and 20days away. So the day comes and me and my for girls agree to meet at the dress shop for our 2pm appt. At 1:30 I get 2 calls of cancellation and 1 maybe I'll be there. Fine I get there with one girl, she gets fitted and we sit and wait 2hrs for the other one ( who called my cell and said she was 15mins away). Finally she comes in and has the worst attitude. The next day I call and drop her from the party. I make another call and get a replacement, this girl goes and orders her gown 2 days later. Three weeks later my maid of honor, decided to go to the Police academy so I do a switch around and bump one bm up to replace her. Another "friend" calls and volunter's to take that open BM space. She claims she's going to order her gown by the weeks end ( 3days) That friday she e-mails me and said the dress was ordered, it'll be back in 4weeks. Here's the jist of my question. Today is tuesday, I call this girl to ask her the date they gave her for her dress return, now she's unavailable all the time. She doesn't answer her phone, cell or respond to e-mails. So I decide to call the shop and they tell me that her dress was never orderd. SHE'S LIED!!!!! To not go thru this stress, is it okay to go ahead with the 3BM's that are complete and my one Jr BM. I was told that you can't have an odd number of bridesmaids. Has anyone ever heard of this???My wedding is in August and I thought I was done with this aspect of planning.

Hi:
Listen, it's your day and you can do whatever your heart desires. If you want to go with the three, then do that. There are some people that only have one person to stand with them and that's an odd number.
It's ok to be different. My wedding is at 5:00pm and I was told that you have to start when the hands are going up. None of that matters. As long as God, you and your mate is ok with it, go for it.
It's your day, have fun!!!!!
Well i have five brides maids. Remember its your day and you dont have to have extra people if you dont want them. You dont have to fill in if someones not there dont force anyone to do it if they are not your true friends. i started with five then two acted like they werent going to get there dress so i told them they werent included then they quickly changed their minds and they bought their dresses. they thought i wouldnt kick them out. but remember its your day and you can have it any way you want it.

You can have one bridesmaid if you so choose. There is no set rule that applies to bridesmaid, now when you are do floral arrangements yes then you need an odd number of FLOWERS but not in the wedding party. One of my clients had 21 another had 7 I had an odd number it's up to you. Do you sista and don't stress. Call me if you need to.
Girl - please!
Words I live by - " DO YOU"
If that is what you want - do it
If to alleviate "unecessary stress" - do it
It is your day!!!!! Please remember that - and If that doesn't help - just remember how much you are paying that ought to snap you back to reality.
from a bride to be in October 2005 - Many wishes and may god bless your union!!!!
It seems that your bridesmaids may be experiencing many different emotions in response to your upcoming ceremony. One key is that sometimes we put things off when we are BROKE! Perhaps your bridesmaids didnt have the heart to be honest about thier financial situation or thier true feelings. Have you considered something less expensive. Such as all bridesmaids wear whatever they want (within reason of course) within a certain color? Or white tops and various bottoms?
Please this is your day you do what you want how you want, If they had a problem with anything the should have told you from day one. You do what makes you and your groom to be happy. Keep you heart open for God and every thing will be alright.
Have a blessful marriage and trust in the lord and each other. Stay True
bride to be in sept 2004
I have an odd number, some dropped in and some dropped out. Since you have three, how about not having a maid of honor and keep everyone the SAME. This is what I am doing, just to keep it simple because when the event gets closer and closer stress comes and the littlest things begin to get to you. My wedding is in August too. Just try to focus on the Marriage itself, not the other stuff.
Hey girl! This is your wedding and what I have learned planning mine is it doesn't matter what anyone feels, except your fiance, about your wedding ceremony, reception, or honeymoon. i have 7 bms one jrbm and flower girl. total of 9. In the beginning my fiance only asked three guys to be groomsmen. I told him to pick whoever he wanted and i would work with that total. My brother will be giving me away and then he will become a groomsmen, making the total 4. I didn't know if this was something I could do, but this is my wedding and what I decide will be done, no questions or comments. As of today, he has eight groomsmen, including my brother. So now I dont have to make him a groomsmen after he gives me away, if I don't want to. Flexibility is key. Do whatever is going to make your planning stress free. With 8 girls I thought I wouldn't have any hair left on my head from stress, but here I am 7 weeks away and no stress. You, your fiance and your families are spending lots of money for the perfect wedding. Don't let anyone or anything take that away from you. Whatever number of bridesmaids you have will always be perfect. My wedding is June 26, 2004. Good Luck and stay strong. Everything will be fine
Hi first of all I am from Bermuda,
Listen I am getting married in October and my grandmother always said that it is GOOD LUCK to have an odd number of bridesmaids. However, it is YOUR wedding and you should do what you want to do. Weddings are detailed enough without having to worry something like that.
Also only have the girls that have ordered the dress in your wedding, the others are obviously not committed enough, or not true friends to lie and change their minds like that.
I'll like to start of by saying that "THIS IS YOUR WEDDING DAY" and you're in charge of your day, everyone can give their opinions but if you don't like it you don't have to agree.
Remember it doesn't matter how many BMs you end up with, your main concern is having your chance to walk down that aisle to seek the man of your life....
P.S. Put the Lord first through all your decisions
I've never heard that it's bad o have an uneven number of bridesmaids. You need to do what is best for you. None of the other "no-show" bridesmads are thinking about you and your day so don't worry about them. It's a stressful time right now and you need to allevite stress any way that you can. In the long run it's all about you and your fiancee and as long as you jump that broom it's all that matters.
I have heard that having too few bridesmaids for a large wedding is bad/ (ex: 250 guests and 3 bridesmaids)
Well, I believe you can do whatever you want to do, because it's your wedding. I don't believe your wedding has to be a certain way. It's 2004 and you can do whatever you want. I don't think you should sweat the small stuff, there's so many other things to think about during your planning. Plan to look your very best because you are the bride and concentrate on the entire planning. The wedding is like a show(but very serious), trying to make the event seem effortless and organized. Don't sweat the small stuff!
I'm never heard of that, but I have to to plenty of weddings that have just had 3 and 5 bridesmaids! Its your wedding do what you want to!
This is not a problem, first and foremost this is your wedding and you determine what the style, and structure will be. What you could do is have a groomsmen walk down the aisle with more than one lady or two groomsmen walk down the aisle with one lady so that they pair up better. Also you could have them walk down the aisle as singles so it won't be awkward. Also do the same when taking pictures have them pair up so it works for you. I hope this helps. My wedding is August 14th so I am very excited, and I hope everything comes together perfectly for you. :) Ericka
I never heard that, and have seen an odd number at many a wedding
including my own.

This is your wedding and your day! Don't let silly superstitions stress you out more than you already are. And remember, assuming that yours will be a religious ceremony, God's perfect number is 7 and we can't forget the Trinity.
You know what? I think so many of us brides-to-be find ourselves focusing on the minor details like the number of bridesmaids, or the color of party favors. Try to remember that you and your intended are planning for not only a wedding, but more importantly for a Marriage. Think about it, will you remember 50 years from now how many bridesmaids you had...? It really doesn't matter if the # of maids is odd or even...
I am to be married on June 4, 2005, and my motto is..."As long as he [the groom] shows up, the day will be perfect!" :) God Bless You!
Thank you ladie's so much for your feedback and opinions. I am so stressed out about this, I can't wait for August to get here. I've decided to go with the 3BM's and 1 jbm. Now the best man is claiming a financial hardship in getting a flight from Orlando to Newark. My cousin works for the airline and has offered him a buddy pass. My fiance is sorta getting pissed with all of this and has suggested we elope. NO SIR . . . I told him to bump him off and push someone up and keep the party going. I swear you really see who has you best interest at heart now. Good luck to you all and God bless you and your intended.

I don't see a problem with having 5 bridesmaids. I didn't think it mattered. However, If you plan to splitt he wedding party up and have them stand on different sides of you, then of course you will run into a problem here. Hope all works out.

Do your thing. I have 14 bridesmaids. That's right fourteen. I have a huge family (6 sisters) and 4 "play sisters" and we are all extremely close. I couldn't leave anyone out. It's your party, do it your way.
