Reception Song Ideas

I am getting married in the next six weeks and am completely undecided on the type of music to use for first dances, bridal party entrance into the reception and so on. If anyone can give me ideas on songs they used or wedding they have been to music used it might point me in some/any direction! I am a 27 year old African American bride and pretty much like upbeat R&B music, old and new the same. Is this the type of music I should use or is there another type anyone can suggest.

Re: Reception Song Ideas

I am in the same dilemma. My advice would is to search on the internet and ask friends and family if they have a couple of songs that they would definetly like to hear. That would include their input and hopefully make sure they are on the dance floor when their chosen song/ songs come on.

Choosing a reception song is hard. Choosing for the entire night even more difficult. Here is a list of songs that I like and have suggested to other brides- Click the purple link. Reception song list.

Re: Reception Song Ideas

I think it is totally up to the individual, what you and your husband like. Our bridal party will be introduced to the song "Fortunate" by Maxwell, we'll be introduced to "Come share my world" by Dru Hill, and our first song will be "Everytime I close my eyes" by BabyFace. As you can see, we are in the "love-vibe" for the beginning part of our reception, after that, it will be all upbeat/dance/party music :-)

Re: Reception Song Ideas

I have chosen for my bridal party introduction to Sylvester's "You Are My Friend" (slow version-I believe there is a version by Patti too). And The first dance will be to either More Than A woman to Me (Angie Stone) or Moody's Mood For Love (James Moody).

Other songs I like are Angel (Anita Baker) Betch By Golly Wow (Phyllis Hyman), Adore (Prince). I will keep posting more ideas as I continue my search for my Ceremony.
Take Care!

Re: Reception Song Ideas

I hope it's not to late, but my bridal party entered the reception to "your are my sunshine( originally done by the Clark sisters) sang by Kelli Price and we entered into Frank Sinatra's " I did it my way". Our first dance was to the Whisper's " I want to make you my wife". My husband wanted it to be Chocolate Girl - Whisper's, but I thought that was a bit much. lol.
