An older bride

Hello Ladies,
I am a bride of 47 and this is my last time to marry. I have been a widow for 10 years and am fortunate enough to have met a wonderful man. Our wedding is scheduled for March 11, 2005. I am looking to hear from other brides around my age. I did not have a formal wedding and I would like to have an elegant, yet very intimate affair; approximately 70 guests. Any suggestions for themes, colors, etc. would be helpful. We are thinking of the theme "Our Day Has Come".

Hello K. I too am an older bride marrying for the 2nd time. I'm 52 and though I had the white gown and the trimmings (kinda) the first time. I'm going to do something elegant this time too. We are having an african themed wedding. My dress is being made, sorta more afrocentric and he will wear the man's traditional outfit. My BP will wear african tops and solid skirts.

Hello,
I'm Kesha I'm 35, and about to be married for the 2nd time next year. My groom to be is 44 and will also be marrying for the 2nd time also. He did the city hall thing the first time so he really wanted a traditional wedding. My first wedding was somewhat traditional, however it wasn't the wedding I wanted so I was more than willing to have a big traditional wedding. I'm really enjoying being engaged and planning the wedding. I love talking about weddings and hearing everyone's plans, so ladies let's keep in touch.

Hi, I'm 35 and will be getting married for the FIRST time... no kids either. Unfortunately I can't relate to you all because I haven't been married before like you all have, BUT, I think an elegant, intimate wedding would be beautiful for you! Since it's in March, I think the color CELEDON (pale green... like sage, but prettier) and/or maybe a pale PEACH would be nice spring colors. Anything in a pastel. Do you plan to have a bridal party or will it be just the 2 of you at the alter? Depending on where you live, the weather may not be good enough to have an outside wedding. But I think it would be nice... maybe something at the beach or a really nice park w/a gazeebo. If you are internet saavy... there are sooooo many sites, including this one, that I found to help me with my wedding. www.weddingchannel.com www.wedowed.com www.bridesave.com AND... you can go into www.google.com and type in anything dealing with weddings and it'll direct you to a LOT of helpful websites. GOOD LUCK! Keep us posted on your progress... :-)

Re: An older bride

Hi ladies, I too am a bride-to-be who's over 35. I'm 51 with no children and this is my first marriage. I'm marrying a wonderful guy who has been a widower for 7 years. My wedding is scheduled for June 4, 2005. I've been busy planning....this is all so new to me. I too would like something elegant but not too pricey. I'm expecting about 250 people (I have a large church family and getting the number down has been a problem). I'm trying to make my wedding as unique as possible. I've decided that our first dance will be off the song, "At Last" by Etta James. I'm still deciding on colors.....so I'm listening to all suggestions.

Hi,

I too am 35 with no kids and this is my first time getting married. I am so excited until the wedding is all I can think about. But I am somewhat frazzled as to what to start with since my wedding is so far away...June 06. Right now, I want an afrocentric wedding with the colors of purple, gold and ivory. But for some reason, I am having second thoughts as to picking other colors to go with purple. If anyone is having an afrocentric wedding, I would love to hear your ideas.

Connie: My brother's wife chose "At Last" as thier first dance too and there wasn't a dry eye in the house! It is an awesome choice!

I didn't have my first child until I was 36. I had Ford this May and I must say we didn't dream we would have any. Love that there are others out there just like me!

I am 53 and planning my first marriage. He has been married before, and in the interim we had two children together--all grown, now(over 30) as well as grandchildren. I'm going for elegant, sophisticated and fun. I'm thinking of platinum and white as the color scheme. Does that seem too stiff and formal? The wedding is planned for October, so I'd like to incorporate fall colors. All ideas welcome.

A few ideas: Anything goes these days where wedding are concerned. First of all remember it is your day and do what is pleasing to you and your hubby to be. A ceremony on the beach, in a mansion or in a backyard. Themes can be based upon your(you & groom) interests and build upon that. Have an elegant barbeque use roses and crystals use black & white fabric prepare surf and turf for meals. Best Wishes!

I am also a 36 bride with no children. My wedding is in May. To start, what I did was buy my attire first and let that determine the tone of my event. Lucky for me, my gown fit my theme but, if your gown fits you, you will find everything right to make the special day. Keep lots of notes and scrap book of everything you like. It will all fall together.

Married 5/27/2005...Glad it is all over!

Re: An older bride

Well, I am not alone. Here is my humbled story. I am 36 years old. My husband of 19 years passed away 2 years ago leaving me with 5 wonderful sons. This man was also my boyfriend so I did not know what dating meant until I met my fiance. I told my family that if God wanted me to have someone then He would have to send them and He did just that. You can tell when God sends or does something..it just feels too good... Well I am definitely scared because I did the city hall wedding and now I want to do a very formal wedding to broadcast to hundreds of people how much I love this man!!!!!! So any any any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is definitely THE ONE!!! I want this wedding to be so much fun and so enjoyable. Also I need some comfortable shoes to wear for the wedding and the long reception any ideas....or do I change clothes..something a little lighter but keeping the wedding feeling

There are tons of articles on this site addressing just about everything you wanted. You can click on the pics by the articles on the front page that will take you to the entire category or search using your key words.

Be sure to announce your wedding in the local paper. Try Jet Magazine even.

There are so many fun ideas like having a drum announce the beginning of the wedding or a crier coming down the aisle rining a bell announcing that the Bride is coming or walk down the aisle sining to your future hubby, etc.

Re: An older bride

Hi & Congrats to all of you!

I too am an older bride getting married for the second time. I'm 48 and plan to get married this December.

Someone asked about colors, themes, etc. I'm opting for something unique, but elegant. I think I've decided on a altar dress with a mermaid hemline. The underlay color is kind of a light-gold or nude and the top of the dress is brown netting with bronze and white crystals. It's really sharp! Instead of a traditional reception, I would like something very different. I'm thinking about a cocktail reception with a wishing well (we don't need another toaster). We'll serve finger foods and I'm renting "bistro" style tables that will probably sit 4. I want a small wedding cake with a variety of other desserts. I'm so excited -- I can't wait.
