I am looking for a good brand of foundation that will not feel like it is "caked" onto your face. maybe even a powder would be nice. i am not used to wearing makeup so i do not want to be able to "feel" the make up on my face.

My Prayer: Dear God, get me to that altar in one piece with my brain in tact!!!! Only 7 weeks and counting....
I like a natural look. So I use Fashion Fair foundation. But I do use a pressed powder everyday. I found that Fashion Fair had the best color to match my tawney skin tone. Also Mary Kay has lots of shades for women of color. Keep looking, I know there is something out there just for you! Also, I thought I saw somewhere in VIBride where there was someone asking if anyone was interested in trying her make-up line. Try under Beauty and Good Luck!
Married 5/27/2005...Glad it is all over!
I prefer PRESCRIPTIVESmyself. You have complete coverage if you need it but it looks like you are not wearing anything at all! I had reaally bad skin and in my line of work clients associate success with how I dress, how my face looks and prescriptives really saved the day. I have never looked back after that! I am medium brown but my skin tone is weird because I am Ibo, Carib, and Scottishish! Not unusual in blacks in this part of the world. So I recommend going to Saks, Bloomindales, JCPenny or Dilliards to try at the counter. PRESCRIPTIVESonly hires professional makeup artisits, I think. good luck!

Hi there!
Congratulatons on your upcoming wedding! I am a professional beauty consultant with Mary Kay and I specialize in working with brides. I hear your comment all the time. Mary Kay has a tinted moisturizer that you may absolutely LOVE. It runs $18 and provides a sheer coverage, yet looks beautiful on all skin colors and skin types. If not the tinted moisturizer, I would suggest the Mary Kay Medium coverage foundation. It's silicone based so it provides beautiful coverage without feeling "caked on". I would also recommend using a loose power over it to provide a "finished matte look".
Best of luck!
Amanda
Amanda, did you get permission from Rosie our site administrator? Rosie is totally wonderful and I'm sure she would be happy to work something out for you -- however, you have to get permission first.

Try the Loreal liquid, it's in a small like valve with a silver round top, or MAC Studio Fix FLUID.
Not sure if you guys in US still have it but what about Maybelline Dream mousse? In the UK, there is a lack of good natural looking makeup for black women. But I have always found Dream mousse to go on smoothly, look natural and not feel caked on. It's a mixture between a powder and liquid. Give it a try!!
i've been using estee lauder for a few years now, but i think it's time for a change also. i get compliments all the time but sometimes i feel like the color is a little off. but it is very light and natural looking.

I currently use Artistry. But I have heard several peoplel simply swear by Bare Minerals. I am going to give it a try.

Diamond, I don't wear makeup often because of my job but when I do, I use Maybelline Dream Mousse. My shade is "Cocoa" and it matches my skin perfectly.
Tewright, I tried "Sheer Cover". The one similiar to Bare Minerals, it was good but the company sent me the wrong shade. It was too light. I didn't order again after that. I thought about it but I'll have to make sure that I order it in the "Chocolate" shade.

I also swear by Maybelline Dream Mousse... I've got a combination skin and I've found that with liquid foundation I always have to apply powder to my T-zone throughtout the day. I tried the Dream Mousse two years back and I haven't looked back. It covers the problem areas while giving a natural look.

I also heard that bare minerals is great. My make-up person plans to use it on us. what she will do is a 3 month pre-wedding consult. We will have to use it everyday to see if our skin can adapt to the make-up. If it doesn't she will go with the brand that everyone currently uses.

Loreal, Clinique, just to name a few. They're terrific.
Platinum - my shade's cocoa too!! Snap!! I must admit, I've tried iman Earth #4 and I have found it can look a little ashy after a while. I will however give MAC a try now.....
I've heard good things about MAC but it's kind of expensive.
