If I am having a destination wedding in August, when and where should I have a bridal shower? How do I tell people where I am registered?

I thought your MOH hosts the bridal shower. Am I wrong?

Re: bridal shower

your MOH does take care of all that, you should not be planning that all. Mine set me straight, she said you just worry about that other stuff.

Re: bridal shower

How do I confront my MOH regarding the bridal shower? According to my wedding planner guide, I should be giving my MOH the guest list for the shower. When I asked her if she needed it she looked at me like I was crazy. Was that rude of me? My wedding is in August 2005. I am not a procrastinator & I like certain things to be in order. Do you think I should have waited? Now, I think she had no intentions of giving me a bridal shower. Which is ok, I guess because she is not obligated. right?

Re: bridal shower

alleyb & nikky Your MOH does handle your shower. If she is slacking up your mother can do it. In fact, it is not unheard of to have SEVERAL showers before your wedding. Each for a different set of people or the same people with different Shower themes, i.e. Lingerie, Pots & Pans, Bed & Bath, Kitchen, etc.

nikky, I would ask your MOH if she was planning a shower, and let her know how much you appreciate her hard work. If she is not up to the task, have no fear, get a sister, cousin or someone else to do it. They are fun but you have too much on your plate to have to organize a shower too! :D

Re: bridal shower

The rules are you should not put the registry as an inserts in your invitations. The registry items should circulate by word of mouth to the family & friends. Your guests should not feel obligated to purchase a gift because they are truly there to celebrate you & your future husband union together.

Re: bridal shower

That may be true but I wasn't the one that put that info on the invite my maid of honor did that. I have received invitations tat have had the registery info in it. So some people do it one way and others do it another. As long as the info gets out I guess.

Re: bridal shower

Some MOH's don't really know what their duties are as MOH and it is not at all in poor taste to make sure they know what those duties are. I'm sure all will turn out well.

Re: bridal shower

Oh no Teresa, your bachelorrette party is separate from your Bridal shower. You may choose to have a coed shower or just you girls. It's the time where you're showered with gifts.

As for the Bachelorrette, it usually happens a few days before the wedding or the day before (depends on how you hold your liquor). I say do it a few days before because you don't want bags under your eyes the next day. And just in case you've had too much fun and hugged the porcelain king all night, you won't have to worry about everyone seeing just how tired your face looks. So, I say, tell your MOH to host it a few days prior to the wedding because the night before the wedding, you'll have your rehearsal and rehearsal dinner happening.

Re: bridal shower

I planned my entire bridal shower, and my bridal party paid for it. I knew exactly what I wanted and only I could pull it off the way I had always envisioned it. Now for my bachelorette party they can plan that all by themselves

Ditto House. I'm such a perfectionist (maybe even anal) that I jumped in and facilitated a game or two. But guess what, people are still raving about my shower today so I don't regret taking charge at all.

Re: bridal shower

well I had a suprise shower the weekend before the wedding-and DH and I had a coed Bachelor/Bachelorette party!

Teresa I agree with Diva G on the bachelorette party; I would suggest the weekend before for it-because the week of you will be super busy and definetly the night before-

Re: bridal shower

I would suggest a theme, because once you have that everything else will fall in place. I am having a tiffany and co. luncheon, so we are going to wear tiffany blue, white, and sliver. Now these colors are not my wedding colors. There are so many diffrent games you can play, and I think that once you find the theme you are looking for you can focus the games and favors around that particular theme. I think you should register for things you like and or want. I myself have been playing house with fh for a while now and didnt want household products, so I registered with continental airlines, that way people can put money into my account and we can use it when every we want to go somewhere.

Re: bridal shower

since my shower was a suprise I really didn't have a "theme" but the ladies had had green & silver balloons, tablecloths etc which were my wedding colors.

Also, there are alot of games, but one game that I loved was each lady wrote "marriage words of wisdom" on a 3X5 card and gave it to me to keep! Fortunately for me, the ladies actually gave me good words of wisdom etc...but beware because you may get someone to give you a card with something outlandish or negative on it, if so, just charge it to their head and not their heart!! :)

p.s. I got some GREAT gifts too even though I was not registered anywhere..and some freaky ones too! and most of the women at my shower were from my church! LOL

Re: bridal shower

My bridal shower was called "Sex in the City meets Girlfriends" which were two of my favorite tv shows. To create the theme we used big martini glasses with floating olive candles as centerpieces and for favors I gave out small pocketbooks stuffed with manicure & pedicure sets and I bought travel sized containers that I filled with lotion, hair gel, bubble bath, etc. I also created my own labels for each which pictured things like high heel shoes, nail polish and other girly things. The games we played were:

1. We came up with a list of old black sitcoms and guests had to give the name of the married couple from that show. That had to give the first and last name of couple. The final question we asked when playing this game was "If there was a sitcom created after (bride name) & (groom name), what would it be called?" We gave a prize to the best answer to this and whoever got most sitcom names correct.

2. We made everyone count off by 1,2,3,4 and separated them by groups. All #1's in this corner, all #2's over there, etc. We gave each team a roll of toilet tissue and tape and then told them to select someone within the group to be the bride and the rest of their group had to design a wedding dress using the toilet paper. We set a 10 minute time limit. It was funny because we had the team explain their creation to the other teams and why thier dress is the best. Bride to be chooses best dress and that team gets a prize. This game was a good way to get rid of the centerpieces.

3. Ask questions about bride/groom/couple and most correct answers win. Be prepared with a tie breaking question on this one.

We also gave out prizes to the first to respond to invite and the first to arrive at shower. For prizes we gave out things like satin pillow cases, sleep masks, drink mixes, etc. Anything to fit the theme of what girls do for fun & beauty.

We had a ball. And it was so easy to carry the theme throughout.
Did you ever find your linen outfit you wanted for your shower?

Re: bridal shower

I helped my MOH plan my shower.
Honestly my MOH kept acting like she didnt know what to do and kept asking me everything so I kind of took over...LOL

Anyway...we did a co ed shower. It was so much fun and turned out great. WE did an "old Skool" theme which fit us perfectly

Also....we far as the location
well we live in Atlanta and my wedding was being held in VA
So we decided to have the shower where all of my friends and family are located which is VA
That worked out best

Re: bridal shower

My aunts hosted my bridal shower for me about 2 months before our wedding. My mother passed away a little over 3 years ago, and my sister was my MOH, so I think this is something they just wanted to do for all of us. I had no control over any of it (although I am a perfectionist myself and would have loved to plan every aspect of it...lol), but my aunts know exactly what I like, so it turned out really nice. The shower was for the ladies only, and while no theme was used, our colors were used as decorations. We played the how well do you know Tiffany/Kyle game, another game in which we had to unscramble words that relate to weddings (which was really hard by the way), and a few more games I can't think of at this very moment! By the way Alleyb, my sister included our registry information with our shower invitations.
