Hi Ladies,
I have a 1 carat sapphire surrounded by .25 carat diamonds on each side for my engagement ring. When people ask to see my ring, they respond by saying "How come you don't have a diamond as the primary setting" or "Your fiance couldn't afford a diamond?". Maybe I'm missing the point, an engagment ring is symbolic. You don't even need an engagement ring to get married. I don't know why people don't think before they speak, I think those comments are rude and insensitive. Does anyone else have a different stone other than the traditional diamond for an engagement ring. I'm just curious. My fiance and I chose that setting because we wanted something unique. I also did some research to find that the sapphire is used quite often as an engagement ring setting.

Ok. You know I don't believe in the diamond as an engagement ring. ON here I suggest all kinds of stones. Sapphires are GORGEOUS and they can cost WAY more than a diamond. I have a Faceted Natural Sapphire Weight: 2.28 carats set in white gold. Price: $19,420.00 BEFORE the setting. I think you got a gem for a fiance. Lucky girl!

You know I don't see anything wrong with you not having a diamond. I wanted to have my fiance and my birthstone together as part of my engagment ring but I ended up with a .25 carat diamond. You have a great ring and you should show it off just like a 4 carat diamond.

Congratulations on our engagement. Put those comment in file 13 (the trash) right where they belong. The ring is a just a symbol. My engagement ring was a pink tourmaline surrounded by diamonds. A bet you ring is gorgeous

Thanks for your respones ladies. I absolutely love my ring, not only for what it represents, but because my fiance bought it just for me!!!! (I love him so much!) I am encouraged, and I will completely ignore anyone who decides to be insensitive. I know it's frustrating when you want people just to be excited for you and the beautiful new life that the engagement represents. I just had to make up my mind to be overjoyed with happiness, and if a person wasn't offering a congratulations or "go ahead girl!" I didn't even hear them. It's sad that we have to take that position, but this time in our lives is too precious to spend worrying about other people. Enjoy your version of a perfect fairy tale and let others continue being exactly who they are. Congratulations Daughter Rhonda!

I personally feel that people with the negative comments are just jealous at the fact the you are getting married. It's not that they have don't like the ring....it's the fact that you have a good man that think highly of you enough to ask you to become his wife. They are just jealous...especially those who are not married or have any immediate prospects. Forget them and enjoy your ring it sounds absolutely gorgeous. JUST FORGET THEM, THEY ARE PLAYA HATING!
