Where Rehearsal Dinner held?

I need some advise as to where we should have our rehearsal dinner. Our ceremony will be held in a local park and the reception will be held at a seperate banquet facility. A friend of mine who will do the cooking for the reception said that we should have the rehearsal dinner at our home since it will only include the bridal party. I really didn't want to do that because we have several family members staying with us. Is it tacky to have it at a local restaurant and expect the guest to pay for their own dinner?

Not tacky at all! Actually I think it is smart to know that it would be a nightmare to have the dinner at home. There is enough dtredd in your life right now. At a restaurant is best because everyone will get what they esnt and you don't have to clean up after them or go hungry over a burnt dinner! lol

Re: Where Rehearsal Dinner held?

So, Rosetta, are you saying that the guests can pay for their own meal. My wedding is 3 weeks away and my fiance has not determined where the rehearsal dinner will be. It's driving me nuts. It was going to be at our house and I told him "No Way!" So, the dilemma is where to have it that's inexpensive. But, if the guest can pay for their own meal then I can suggest that. Please clarify. Thanks.

Nikky I don't think it's tcky to expect your guest to pay for their meals as long as they know in advance to it's a pay you own way affair. It would be embarrassing to all involved to spring it on them at the restaurant.

I don't feel as though it is tacky at all for you guest to pay. I agree with phenomonique, definitely let them know in advance. Choose a nice inexpensive place. Do you and your family and friends enjoy Italian? There are quite a few italian places that have nice atmospheres and are nice on your pockets...lol

Re: Where Rehearsal Dinner held?

So, I'll be the devil's advocate. Is it not acceptable to make sure that you leave a nice dinner at home, go out to take care of the rehearsal (dinner included) and then return to your guests when you come home? If they are not a part of the rehearsal, then why would they follow you to the rehearsal dinner? Providing them with a meal at home (you can freeze a lasagna and defrost it discreetly the day of the rehearsal dinner) allows you to still take care of your guests while remaining in your budget for the rehearsal dinner. Also, if you make provisions for these out of town guests, what happens when other out of town guests assume it is fine for them to come as well or wonder why they weren't invited? Well, maybe that's just my family! Oops!

Re: Where Rehearsal Dinner held?

My wedding is in Oct and we have not decided what to do for our rehersal dinner/lunch either. Our rehersal will be early in the day, so I was thinking about a brunch/lunch type thing at the house.
Still not decided on this but if it is only for the bridal party then it will only be 15 to 20 of us including parents.
We can mix and mingle for a bit and then we can give our bridal party their gifts.

Re: Where Rehearsal Dinner held?

Well, my wedding is less than 3 weeks away and my fiance has not finalized the rehearsal dinner yet. I want to take over and from what I have been told it's not my place to take over. So, I don't think that my parents should pay for their dinner when they paid for the entire wedding. that's just a personal observation. I don't want to get technical with his parents nor him. I trying to keep the peace. Does anyone else agree?

Don't panic. There is still time. Most grooms will just take everyone out after the rehearsal in a casual way then pick up the tab. As women we like things super organized and we also like to know what is going to happen at all times. Trust your man. You trust him enough to marry him. Trust him to get the job done. It won't hurt to tell him that either. LOL.
