Reception Music

I am worried about what kind of music we should have playing at the reception. Most of our guests are in their 50's. The other guests are in their 30's. My family is from the islands and my fiance's family is from the south. I want everyone to dance and have fun! There is nothing worse than going to a reception where everyone is just sitting there looking board and NOT DANCING.

Re: Reception Music

A lot of old school, some jazz, new score, a little hip hop(edited), something they can step, swing, or hand dance to.

Living my life like it's GOLDEN!!

A little Reggae would be nice in addition to everything Phenomonique suggested. Variety is key here.

Re: Reception Music

What's a ethnis wedding without the electric slide. lol
A variety will definintly do the trick. I specifically asked that no rap be played during my reception just Jazz, old schol, reggae and R&B. Needless to say everyone got a little something to dance to. Everything turned out great. Don't forget you can work directly with your DJ to request certain songs played at certain points during your reception. Good Luck

Re: Reception Music

LOL how about my fiance doesn't know how to do to the electric slide! How funny is that! He just told me this weekend. I told him I would teach him. I definitely do not want any rap. I want a lot of up beat tempo songs, I just don't know what songs. I have a couple in mind and I do plan to work closely with my DJ so hopefully I will have a good outcome.

Southerns like to hand dance (swing or step), so make sure you have some old school soul music.

Re: Reception Music

I have the same dilemma. But, I have a thought to hopefully remedy this. I look forward to your feedback. I thought that I would have the DJ build up the party as he goes. Maybe start out with some old school, I mean way back for the older guests, then move on up to the Michael Jackson era (everybody can get with that) then work his way to to the early nineties (MC Hammer and all those jokers), moving up to early R&B, and finally coming all the way into the millenium with the music the younger generation will enjoy. I've noticed that the older people generally just want to dance to a few songs and then talk and congregate. The die hard partiers will stay on the floor from Michael on up. I want a party, party! I want to dance so much with my friends and family that we all wake up sore in the morning. Besides waking up as the wife of the man that I love with all of my heart the next morning, that is my biggest goal. This is the most expensive party I'll ever throw and I'm going to enjoy it! :) See, I just got excited all over again and I'm not getting married until October 2006. I gotta pace myself!

Re: Reception Music

The DJ plans on basically reading the crowd to get an idea as for what to play. I definitely want Michael Jackson Off The Wall:) Basically it will be an even mix. No rap. I'm like you, I want party like its 1999...lol.

Re: Reception Music

My DJ is going to feel the crowd also, but I want to have an old school/new school mix.
I want to hear some Steve Arington (Weak in the knees) and some Frankie Beverly with Maze (Before I let go!!) along with some KC and the Sunshine Band (yes, I said KC..lol) "I get lifted"...
I am going to let the DJ do his thing, but there are some songs that I like to groove to that I want to hear.
