Re: wedding programs

Della why would your honoring your cousin hurt any of your guest. The fact that you honor a person is a small celebration of their life. List a 'Loving Memory of..' in the program.

Re: wedding programs

If thinking about your cousin causes your family pain, wouldn't a poster of her a your ceremony be rather sadistic. If a visual reminder is important to you a 3"x5" or 4"x6" picture is more than enough. It's your wedding not a memorial service, right?

Re: wedding programs

Della,

Here are some suggestions:

1. Carry a flower in your bouquet that stands out. Maybe a single red rose sorrounded by white flowers, or what ever your cousin's favorite flower/color was.

2. A candle in a designated place that you light before going to your groom.

3. A monochromatic, usually white, floral arrangement in a designated place.

Wording on the program could read something like, "As, we celebrate, the single red rose in Della's bouquet/candle/flowers at the altar is/are to honor the memory of our loved ones who have passed from this life. We would like to remember those who are not with us and who have influenced our lives in a way that make us who we are today. We know that they are with us in spirit."

Does anyone have a sample of the wedding program they are going to use that you might be able to send me? You can email me at tulip_shorty@comcast.net.

Re: wedding programs

I agree with Venet, there are several subtle yet meaningful ways to acknowledge those who have passed and also those who are unable to attend. Instead of flowers my SIL/BM carried a lit candle down the aisle and lit another candle at the alter that had a 5x7 picture and poem in memory of her father, my FIL. We opted against having a symbolic seat for him next to my MIL because we wanted to celebrate his life and not so much focus on his absence. As Phenomonique suggested, we had a brief note in the program.

Re: wedding programs

I like the brief note in the program. My father passed away 3 years ago and in my wedding we will be including half a page in the program to his memory. I may also have my mother light a candle at the beginning of the wedding to represent his spirit during the ceremony. Either way, it is a beautiful touch to a most beautiful day........

Be Blessed.....
