2nd Wedding for me, 1st for him

Greetings to all. This is a great site and I am so glad to have found you all.
This is my 2nd marriage and my fiance's 1st. We plan to get married next year probably April. The problem is..he thinks that since I have already been married, that I dont NEED to have a wedding ceremony, and that we can just get married at city hall, and then have a great party and save all the money for the honeymoon. I think just the opposite, I want to have a small intimate wedding with only our closest family and friends. We have been going back and forth with this for awhile. We have discussed this back and forth, and although I understand about finances, I will be relocating to Atlanta from Houston, I still think we can pull off a small tasteful wedding without too much expense.
Any Ideas!!!

Well, one thing that your fiance seems to want is a party so that family and friends can celebrate after a ceremony. What you can try to convince him to do is just have the ceremony at the same place as the party/reception!!
Depending on how many people you would like at the party/reception, you would just need to find a location to accomodate that number of people. I suppose at the ceremony that you and your fiance would like to have parents, close family members and friends there anyway, so just have the ceremony and reception at one location and there you have it. You can have a brunch or have a *bleep*tail hour setting with just hors d'oeuvres to cut down on costs if necessary.

I have to agree with you KLB, have you thought about a breakfast wedding. Because you want something small, I'm sure the price won't be as much to have everything in one place. YOu should check with your local reception halls, you may also think of a "brunch" wedding. I got married at 10 in the morning and had a reception from 12-4pm which was wonderful. We sorta ate lunch and then everyone was free to go. After we partied at the reception a small group of our most intimate famiy and friends got together later on and we kept the party going. SHop around and make plenty of calls, your hubby to be just may warm up to the idea. After all every woman wants to have a wedding be it 1st or 6th. Good Luck.

Consider a town hall, park, or small banquet facility. The expense is in decorating, catering, and attire. If you have family and friends to help out you can save lots of money. We all have someone we know who can cook (and I mean really burn), creative girlfriends, find a simple but gorgeous dress, and to cut back on a bar tab do a signature drink. Now if you know someone who can do your flowers you're all set.

Here are some other suggestions:

A Tea Reception (should be held between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m)
A Salad Luncheon/Reception (11:30 to 1PM)
Hors d'oeuvres and Cocktail Reception (11 a.m. and 5 p.m. or after an evening wedding)
Decadent Dessert Reception or Dessert Party (1 to 4 PM)
Just make sure that on your invites you indicate to the guests what type of reception you are having.
For example add:
"Hors d'oeuvres and Cocktail Reception Following Ceremony" on your invitations.

Great advice guys. Even if you have been married 5 times you deserve all the trappings of a fairytale wedding. He loves you so I know you will get it. Brunch weddings can be extremely affordable and super elegant. Consider having it during the week rather than the weekend. it is cheaper on saturday abut almost free on a Friday!

That's true, if you have it on a Friday or Sunday it is cheaper. I forgot about that. Thanks Rosetta!!
That's one reason why I chose a Sunday!!

Thank you all for the great suggestions..I think his mother must have knocked him on the head or something, because he is gradually coming around, and like you said he loves me..so we are making progress. We are talking about New Orleans at a small chapel, and its a half way point for his family and mine, and we had our first date there. So now the planning begins. I am looking at dresses now so many decisions, but its great fun..

LaniRivas New Orleans is my home town :) I'm having my reception at Gallier Hall on St. Charles Ave. There's lot of inexpensive locations there. I've even considered Aududon or City park. If you need some info about locations email me. babieluvbug@yahoo.com
