Grooms Cakes

Hi ladies, this topic may have been done before, but I'm curious. How many of you are doing cakes for your FH? What is your inspiration or theme for the cake? My husband teaches marching band and I had a cake made up in the shape of a drum for him. What are you ladies doing or have done?

My DH thinks he's a Chess Pro. we had a cake for him made as a chess board but guess what?....We forgot to bring the chess peices so it just looked like a brown and white checker board. LOL

DH and I are both truck drivers so I would love to give him a cake in the shape of or have a picture of an 18 wheeler on it for our anniversary.

Re: Grooms Cakes

DH is from Brooklyn and every time we see a movie that has a scene showing the Brooklyn Bridge, he gets all excited and starts giving me a history lesson of the bridge. I wanted to do a cake shaped like either the Brooklyn bridge or like a PlayStation remote control which is one of his favorite pass times. I really wanted to incorporate both by having the Brooklyn Bridge with a remote control floating by in the water underneath. The baker I had in mind to make the cake for me was having a difficult pregnancy at the time of my wedding so she couldn't do it. Unfortunately I couldn't find anyone else to make it. I would have loved to see DH's face when he saw it.

Wow, you DIvas had some great ideas. My FH don't want a Groom's cake. He has stressed that since day 1, so we will not be having one either.

My husband's a football fanatic, so the cake would have to be the Miami Dolphins (or UM Hurricanes) logo.

I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

I would love to see a picture.

FH used to love a cake that we would get from the cafe in Neiman Marcus. When we first got engaged, he said that he wanted it to be his cake. However, these days they have "dropped the ball" with this cake. Somebody screwed with the recipe, so now he has dropped the whole idea altogether. Now we are just going to have a cupcake stand among the appetizers.

The idea of having a groom's cake isn't a new one. It has origins that date back to the 17th century. This tradition, somehow got lost and has been rediscovered and has been a part of the most elegant wedding receptions.

The history of the groom's cake is varied as its flavors and shapes. Some sources say it originally was a rich, dark fruit cake without icing; some say it was a fruit cake with white icing to match the bride's cake.

Still others take it a step further and say the groom's cake became the top layer of the bride's cake and was not served to guests. Instead, it was placed in a tin and drenched in brandy to preserve it for celebration of the couple's first anniversary.

Today, remnants of these various traditions has enjoyed renewed popularity in recent years, especially with female guests that are single. It has been told that if they take a slice of the groom's cake and place it beneath their pillows at bedtime, they will dream of their future husbands.

Many couples are designing their groom's cakes to reflect the groom's hobbies or interests. Whatever theme you choose for your groom's cake, it is a wonderful tradition that adds a personal touch to your wedding, while honoring the man you married.

Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37

Same here. I sent the Washington Redskins logo to the hotel, but they couldn't do the logo, so his chocolate cake just said "Washington Redskins" on top. He was so surprised and said, "You thought of everything."
