TAKE THE CHANCE?

I just met with the florist yesterday to get a quote and it was a very large quote of 2,390!!!! this is only for my bouquet, a toss bouquet, ceiling draping, a aisle runner, floating candles for each table, and a decorated arch. The ceiling draping itself is between 900-1,000!!! So I consulted with my wonderful matron of honor who's always full of wonderful ideas and she seems to think that the ceiling draping would be easy for us to do ourselves. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard, but at the same time I'm a little nervous because what if we make it look horrible? LOL do you guys think I should take a chance and go the do it myself route?

Definetly! I am all for the DIY route. I bet it will turn out beautifully and it will be that much more sentimental. I see that you are from Mpls, Mn. I also live in Mpls and am geat at doing things with my hands so not to be weird or anything but if you do decide to do it and need some help holla!

Re: TAKE THE CHANCE?

I have no clue where I'm having my ceromony at. I won't be getting married until Nov. 9th,2006 so i still have a little time. I'm clueless about all this wedding stuff, it's way harder than I thought it would be. I really don't know what colors to do either but I have found my dress and it's white with burgandy trim all along the bottom of the train and burgandy detailing. It's absolutely beautiful! What colors are you thinking about doing? When is your wedding date?

Re: TAKE THE CHANCE?

It is difficult to make floral arrangements on your own, but it can be done! Get a how to book. Don't just try to copy pics. Find out if your reception hall will do flowers or any sort of decoration at the church as well. You usually save big if you stick to one vendor.

Re: TAKE THE CHANCE?

I don't know if this is considered a thing of the past but I used silk flowers. My coordinator (who happens to be one of my mentors at my church) made all of our bouquets, centerpieces, boutnieers, and corsages. We are getting married under a gazebo in a local park so she used silk palm trees and some other type of flowers to decorate the gazebo. I think that they look really pretty and it saved me a ton of money. I also wanted my girls to be able to keep their bouquets and this way they can. My wedding is Saturday so when I get pics back I will post them for you to let you decide. I hope this helps you out.

Re: TAKE THE CHANCE?

Excited1, I feel where you are coming from when you speak of the high price of floral arrangements. I have been doing some pricing as well and the prices can be quite scary. Who would have thought that just for a few flowers here and there could rack up to a down payment on a car? I think your idea of doing some of the decorations yourself is great. Go with that and I'm sure it will turn out just how you want it....

Be Blessed.....

Re: TAKE THE CHANCE?

Listen ladies, the minute florist hear the word "Wedding", the price automatically increases. You all said that weddings are a lot of hard work, especially as the date gets closer. My advise to you is this.....if you are going to start creating your own floral arrangement, I suggest you do it NOW, if you wait until the wedding day is around the corner, you will lose your mind. You will get anxious and nervous and fustrated, you may loose hair and just break down from being overwhelmed. If you are not willing to start now, you better seek the advise of a florist, maybe start paying now and a little ever now and then, that's the beauty of starting so early. Do not get me wrong, I agree with saving, but not at the expense of your sanity. I read somewhere that a great way to keep your floral expense down is to incorporate a lot of baby's breathe. (food for thought)

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
