Two Receptions?

Has anyone ever heard of having 2 wedding receptions? One held at the church for everyone and then another one held at another venue. The second one would be for a more intimate feel: that one would be for close friends and family. I read that somewhere but was curious if anyone has actually seen it pulled off...

I never heard of two venues, but it does not mean that you cannot pull it off -- it's your wedding -- do what you and your FH want. Personally, I feel it does not matter what anybody has or has not done. Hey, my sister-in-law and her husband left the first venue to carry on to party at another sister-in-law's house. Good Luck!

Blessed be the Lord my strength ......

Hey Laneirh, it is really up to you and what you want and could afford. If you want to have something at the church just a thank you for all persons attending and something later for close friends and family that's all up to you. I think it is a great idea, at least you will not have to worry about people showing up at your main reception who was not invited and you get stuck with a bill after the party is over.

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

I've actully heard of that before. Our church families don't always get into the mixers with the R&B music or want to be in an atmosphere where cocktails are being served. It can be done, it's easier if your church has a facility to do that it. It helps cut cost.

Re: Two Receptions?

Hi Laneirh, as 2nd time and the other brides recommends do what is best for you and your FH. I have the same dilemma. My church is very strict and doesn't believe in dancing. I respect them and don't want to offend them, however I don't share their views. In the beginning I was entertaining doing two receptions, and then realized that this was completely out of the budget that my FH and I set. We then opted to have a private wedding ceremony and a private reception. I know this may seem a little strange, but I want my day to be everything that I want it to be and I don't want to please everyone at the expense of my own unhappiness. I wish you all the best in your decision.

Good for you! That is the best idea. It will offend no one and you can let loose without guilt. Make a joyful noise.

Re: Two Receptions?

Thanks, DaughterRhonda for those words. The more I think abt it, it makes more since for me to concentrate on what makes me and my man happy. All this time I have been attempting to make everyone comfortable...what abt Laneir? What abt what I want? So, with that said, our budget is $5000 and we plan to stick to it. Everything is not meant to please everyone. Thanks guys, ya'll really bring it all to "light"!

Be Blessed.....

Laneirh, our budget is $5,000 also. My main focus is to have a day that my FH and I can remember, something elegant, intimate with my closest family and friends. I will have the pictures and the memories to last a life time, good luck in your planning!!!!

Re: Two Receptions?

Laneirh...I do not know if you are planning on getting dressed at a hotel....if you are then maybe they can throw in the reception area for you. I know it sounds weird but nothing beats a try than a failure. When I got married in 94, I rented the suite in the Sheraton British Colonial (Hilton) for 4 days, it was huge and the entire bridal party stayed there....what they did for me (oh and by the way, they may even have a discount cus of a wedding) they offered me there pool so I could have my reception and if it rained they gave me the option to come in the ballroom FREE....they provided and chairs, tabels, clothe and all I needed to bring was a cateria....Girl was that a blessing or what and a poolside reception in the evening with lighting next to the ocean was .......oh my goodness, so beautiful and romantic. You should look into something like that..I know it saved me about $3,500.00.

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
