Not acknowledging father at wedding

I have a niece who is getting married this christmas
season.. Her father has passed away (10 years) now. In her wedding announcement and her engagement announcement, she did not acknowledge her father at all. They got along fine, he left her an inheritance
that provided for a new vehicle, college and some
spending money. My question is, should she have
acknowledged her father. I thought so, but other
than asking her, I wanted to get someone elses
input on this. The rest of the family thought
she should have. She just recognized her mother and
step father.

any help would be appreciated. You can email me at

Re: Not acknowledging father at wedding

Hi Lebeaulily, your niece may not have acknowledged her father in the wedding or engagement announcement because she will do something special for him in the actual ceremony itself. How close are you with your neice? Perhaps, she just doesn't know how to do it. Maybe a simple conversation with her could shed some light on this situation. In any event, I wish you and your neice the best. Congratulations on her wedding and welcome to the boards.

Re: Not acknowledging father at wedding

A wedding is a personal thing. Very personal. I don't think it is anyone's business but her's and her mother's why he was not added. I am sure it came up when they were doing the invitations. Her father, since he has passed and she has a new stepfather, would be an inappropriate addition on the announcement or the invitation. I am sure she will do something at the ceremony or reception. But while the gesture is sweet, she should not be considered rude for seemingly excluding him.
