I've noticed when I've gone to bridal shows there has been a representative from Mary Kay there. I've also noticed in magazines Mary Kay is advertised. Is Mary Kay that good and is it best for woman of color when it comes to weddings? Currently when I do wear makeup it's the clinic foundation and people don't notice I have on the foundation. It looks natural. I'm supposed to kind of look like I have on makeup on the wedding day right?

God is good all the time and all the time God is good
It all depends on the look you're going for...Personally, i'm not someone who wears makeup at all. (My makeup bag consists of lip gloss/liner & mascara) So, on my wedding day, I want to look as natural (and elegant) as possible. I went to a Mary Kay party a few months ago, got a makeover, and still looked 'natural'. So my question is, why should I start wearing makeup every day just to 'look' natural? That makes no sense to me. Anywho, most of my pals wear either Mary Kay or Fashion Fair.
I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.
Delight yourself also in the Lord & He shall give you all the desires of your heart.-Psalm 37:4
I know a lot of women who use MaryKay, and they sware by it. I personally don't care for it. I don't wear makeup often, but when I do, I use either Fashion Fair or Prescriptives. The best thing to do is see what works well with your skin. I don't like to look overly done or like I am wearing a mask. I prefer the "natural look", because I believe that works better for me. I stick to earth tones and natural looking foundation when I do wear makeup.

Ok I have never heard of MaryKay....ya think cause my make-up bag consists of "chapstick"...dah!...anyway, I am with Ronny on this one, go with whatever works for your skin, try out before the big day and see what you like, off course by a professional no doubt...I do not like Fashion Flair, too reddy, what about Iman and I have seen a commercial for Bare Essentials or Bare Minerals, something Bare can't remember the correct name....has anyone every tired this product?
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
I have heard of Bare Essentials, although I've never used it.

I don't care for mary kay cosmetics. It is red based colors for black skin. I am Yellow orange toned even though I am medium brown. For the perfect bridal face I strongly suggest going to the PRESCRIPTIVES.COM counter at the mall or the M.A.C. counter for AA skin tones. CLinique isn't bad, but can run and you don't want that on your wedding day! Prescriptives looks so natural. ANd they have a natural line for people who don't want to be too made up but look flawless. I LOVE it. I have been wearing make up for 25 years. I don't give thiis advice lightly.

Thanks for the advice, I agree that Prescriptives is wonderful for women of color. I haven't tried M.A.C or Clinique.

I have been having the same concerns about makeup.
I am have a dark skinned complection and Mary K just doesnt have the right blend. I always look "grey"...lol. I happened to go the mall and ran into a color me beautiful consultant. They were great. I got a great skin match from Interface products and some Flori roberts.

Me and about 4 girlfriends got some makeup and skin care products. It was awesome. I love the stuff..not to heavy ..really light ....
Welcome to the Boards Ncbride2be! Thanks for the advice, I will certainly check them out.

You guys really know your stuff about make-up...this is new me, but I am liking the many different suggestions to look into.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Ladies, have any of you tried M.A.C?I hear that a lot of African-American celebs (like Mary J. Blige) use it.I'm thinking of trying it.I don't like Mary Kay, it just doesn't agree with my skin tone. It makes me look like a store mannequin. Plus, I have oily skin so, two hours after putting it on, I shine like a new car.I hear that Iman's line is good.Does anyone have any suggestions for a good makeup line for oily skin?I have medium brown skin with yellow undertones.
Born Blessed!
Platinum...I too am medium brown with yellow under-tones...nah if I can just drive an 18 wheeler we would be identical twins :-)....anywho...I had the Iman on before and it looks really wonderful, what I like about her press powder is that you do not have to put on foundation so you don't get that thick clammy feeling on your face and it looks flawless. I am not a big make-up fan because I am a natural kinda gal but every now and again I surprise everyone with a different look and I have found that Iman is perfect for me. Go let them make you over and see if you like it.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Thank you, Charlotte.I'll check it out.I don't wear alot of makeup.I'm just a lipstick lady but I want a glamorous look for my wedding day.
Born Blessed!
Jenny ...you wear so much more make-up than me...my make-up consists of "chapstick" and you don't want to see my panic if I run out of a tube and I can't find another one [lol]...anyway you will look wonderful because people are not used to seeing you that way. I know that's the reaction I always get when/if I wear some. :-)
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
My girlfriend isn't an expert but I'd recommend Avon makeup. It's very light on the face.
Chapstick!!!! CharlotteModebe, you are too funny! On your special day you want to look FLAWLESS. Not a shine on ya. Get professionally mader up to look NATURAL, not made up on your wedding day if you don't ususally wear any make-up. Then your hubby will just think you are glowing and perfect. He doesn't need to know now does he? lol

Hey B2B....I am not sure about that Avon thing....I see Avon as make for the "not women of color" so I am not going that route. Rosey girl I am a mess...I do not even pluck my eyebrows.....can you imagine that {he he}, when I go to the beauty salon, the ladies want to hold me down to trim them and I just do not bother cause they really look bad when they are grwoing back, but I will definitely do the professional make-up thing on that special day.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Hey Charly I don't arch my eyebrows either. They have a natural arch. However, on my special day I will have them trimmed a little.
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
Rony at least yours have some arch....my own look like the incredible Hulk right after his transformation (lol)
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Girl you are crazy, glad you have a sense of humor in light of all you are going through. But the Incredible Hulk, oh no you didn't!!!
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
Yes girl....Mr. Hulk himself, I have big bushy brows that need a wipe to get them in check, I am a beautician's dream come true and one of these days I will make that dream come true for her. :-)

Charly,I'm in the same the boat with the eyebrow thing. I haven't had mine arched in 13 years (senior prom). My mom may have to stand in the doorway of the salon with her belt to make sure that I get mine done.
Born Blessed!
PlatinumStyle you are too funny! I am picturing MamaPlatinum standing in the doorway with the belt. Hilarious!!!!! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! You ladies sure know how to make someone have a really good day.
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
Thank you Rhonda.Ha!You know how it is.I guess I'm just scared. The girl may mess up then, I'll have to shave them off and draw new ones.I may draw them too high and end up looking surprised while walking down the aisle.Lol.
Born Blessed!
Oh my goodness, Platinum you are too much!!!! I'm cracking up here. You will be ok. Did you have someone in mind for doing your make up? If not, I would definitely do some research. I'm starting to do that myself.
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
All ya'll are too funny...can you imagine someone doing foolishness on your day...I can just see them getting bum rush from the bridemaids :-)
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Yea Charly bum rushed from the bridesmaids and piggy backed by the flower girl and ring bearer. (My neice and nephew are too much for 4 and 5 year olds -- if someone shaves off their auntie's eyebrows, it's on!!!!)
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37

They gonna call the paddy wagon for you girl....
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
You Sistas are too much!!I can see my mom now with her hand on her hip, gritting her teeth and saying "I know you're not going down the aisle like that".Not to mention to rolling her neck!Anyway, I'm not sure who's doing my makeup. As a matter of fact, I'll call some of the local beauty salons for an all-in-one package. You know, hair, nails, and makeup.
Born Blessed!
Platinum I think that is the best and safest route to go...the last thing you want on your wedding day is to look like a bundo queen. Let a professional have you glowing.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
ladies I'm having the make-up problem too. I just had my face done from mary Kay and then went to the mall to shop, I saw one of my friends from school and she was looking at me, I said what I just had my face done, she said you look dead, it's too orange like I put my sunglasses on and got up out of that mall with the quickness. Now i'm going to go to macy's and see if they can help me with that fashion Fair. I hardly have eyebrows, so I can't get them arched the way I want. My hair ie like redish brown so you can't see it. so I also need a person who is good at filling color in.
Yes girl....Mr. Hulk himself, I have big bushy brows that need a wipe to get them in check, I am a beautician's dream come true and one of these days I will make that dream come true for her. :-)

LOL. GET YOUR BROWS DONE! My sister's eybrows are 1970's perfect. the arch the trim. I really hate her. I am a sasqash. Hair all over. My wzx bill is like a house mortgage and I am not exaggerating! lol If you are going to do your brows do them initially a couple months before the wedding and them shape them up right before. That way there isn't a weird tan line for my natural faced beauties.

VirtuousV, have you tried Mac?
Rosey I tried the waxing eyebrow thing and let me tell you this....I can't ever see me doing it again...that thing hurts like a mother and it made me look like I was surprised. I will have to try another approach. Hey V2 Fashion Fare to me is just as bad because it makes you look too red....and to much shine
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Hey there Charly, would you consider having your brows trimmed with a razor. My daughter is a little diva and she refuses to have them waxed. Her hair stylist (licensed) does them with a razor and that seems to work. Anyway, gurl you got me cracking up over here "looking surprised" HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
Hey Rony...yeah my sister says I look like someone said "boo!" to me lol...yes I will consider the razor but the hair will grow back to fast and that looks really bad when it is growing back.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Charly it only hurts like the first 2 times than you get use to it, as you get it done it will look better. I switch up all the time. Sometimes the barber does it or the nail salon people, but haven't had them done in like a year, so it's gonna hurt whenever I get it done again. Septbride I don't wear make up just lipgloss & lip liner I will def. try out tha M.A.C though thanks.
Virtous, you're a trip.I don't like Mary Kay either.I have oily skin and after having Mary Kay on for about an hour, you can call me Mop and Glow.I look like I'm wearing a mask.
Born Blessed!
Charly it only hurts like the first 2 times than you get use to it,
what are you trying to do to me woman!...ya tink if it hurts the first time I going back a second time...NOT!!!! lol...girl I too scared of pain :-)

MAC is the way to go. It can be applied to be subtle or bold ( in a classy kind of way.) Clearly MAC can even make a man look good. Do we remember Ru Paul ladies?
