We have grea ideas in this article, make your own favors. I think making them can be lots of fun if you have the time and/ or the help.
I don't think yuo should make your own invitations unless you have had practice doing it with your program or printer. It is a real headache and your invitations may even look cheap. Also buying the print it yourself kit can cost as much as getting your invites professionally printed.
I'm with Rosetta on this one...as much as I would love to get involved and create my own, the headache that's associated with the work is not worth it and to think they may look cheap...no thank you, let a professional deal with it.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
It's so much fun to make your own favors. I'm dangerous with a glue gun! But stay away from the invitions. I seen the results of the home kits....NOT GOOD! They bleed an smear. Then you end up ordering then anyway.
Well so far, I have do my bridemaid's goodie bags (found a black clutch purse at Tagets for 50 cents, put some rinestones on it and it looks like a million bucks)and now I am making some favor bags to put our ink pens in to give away. I have been looking thru wedding books and invitation books and most of those favors can be done. I think I am gonna at least try...If it doesnt come out the way I would like, then I will resort to other means...
Personally I would never do my invitations myself. But if you could pull off the favors, the best of luck to you. Everyone doesn't have two left hands like me. Phenomonique says she's dangerous with glue and a gun, perhaps you will be too laneirh. By the way, the black purse sounds fabulous. Good luck!

Everyone has a creative streak in them. You just have to tap into it. Make it fun. Go to the craft store are check out a few things, ribbon, mirrors, stones, baskets...WHEW! BROOMS, FLOWERS... OMG I'm giving myself a headache..I need an A C Moore fix..LOL!!!!
Okay, so I got myself all worked up on DIY and drove 20 miles to my nearest A C Moore yesterday. I made a wedding broom, 2 jewelry boxes and a STD fan/magnet.
When I take the pictures I'll post a link for y'all to see them. BTW Charley, no one has called me Niquey since my grandmother, and it happens to be my favorite nickname. You warmed my heart the first time I saw that.
Yeah do it your self invites SUCK! If you are not a crafter avoid it. I do like homemade hand done things though. But a skilled amatuer is better than trying something for the first time 2 days before your wedding. LOL
I am getting so comfortable with my divas, Charley and Niquey and Rho. I know I can count on you to have steller ideas. You guys are always here to help!
I'm using silk flowers to make my bouquet and the bouquets for the bridesmaids. My colors are gold and white and since I'm pretty handy with a sewing machine, I made a ring pillow with gold and white lace. Laneirh, the goodie bags sound like a great idea.
Platinum---that is so cool that you can use a machine that will save you a bundle and you can really pretty up that pillow the way you want to and I think you can never over-do a ring pillow so ---congrats on that.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Thank you.I wanted to sew my own dress but I couldn't find a suitable pattern. I'm not as good as some of the gifted seamstresses who can put one together by looking at a picture!Lol.
Well Rony I still give you kudos for trying to thread a needle....I will use a stapler before I pick up something to try and sew...I am just not domestically inclined :-)
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Charly, trust me you are in the wrong profession -- a true comedian you are my friend!!!! You will pick up a stapler first -- oh my goodness you are too funny!!!!!! HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37
How much can you really get away with doing it yourself. I plan on buyint a sewmachine so I can make my aisle runner and decorate my ring pillow and guest book/photo ablums. I have so many ideas that I "think" will work but since I never sewed anything by machine befoe I think I may be out of my league.I already plan on creating my own center pieces. Are there anymore ideas you can give that may save me money from buying them in the magazines?
Hi Alvinslove and welcome to Vibride. These ladies are always here to give good advise. You can try using silk flowers for your bouquets and corsages. You can check out your local library or a bookstore for books on do-it-yourself projects. Also, try Michaels and Joann's websites and stores for more information.Congrats on your engagement.
Welcome to the boards Alvinslove, gurl you are in the right place for money saving tips. PlatinumStyle gave you two wonderful websites and I'd like to add Ebay (don't sleep on them), I've gotten my unity candle set (absolutely gorgeous) which retails in the bridal magazine for about $40, I only paid $14.50 (shipping/handling included), my tiaras, flower girl basket, veil and disposable wedding cameras (which came to approx $2.05) a camera. I will be printing my own wedding programs. I got the blank programs (100) for about $10.00. I ordered them from www.weddingexpressions.com and you can also download a example template. Also check wedding website clearance sections. I was able to get my guest book personalized with our names and dates for about $15.00 shipping and handling included. I would also like to say that I don't like things that look cheap so I am very careful about what I buy. I will also be making my own centerpieces. I hope that helps. I am on a serious budget, and it is important for me to get the most for my money. All the best.
Delight yourself in The Lord & He will give you the desires of your heart!Ps 37

But at least you can sew Platinum! I'm one of those sistahs that end up with bleeding nubs when you thread the needle.

Charley and Rhonda, you two are a mess! You better believe that I had many pricked fingers and lots of mutilated fabric before I got the hang of it!!
Born Blessed!
See that is what I am afraid of..."Pricked finger"...you can not prick your finger in a stapler unless ya fool enough to push it up under it :-)
