Rehearsal

Hello everyone. Please advise. Can someone tell me exactly what goes on at the rehearsal and approximately how long it takes? Do we play each song as it's going to be at the wedding and have everyone who is in the processional process? Do I have to let them here the song I'm going to walk on? I don't want anyone to hear it until the ceremony. Does the minister go over the entire ceremony on that day or just brief us? Is there anything I should know?
Any dos and don'ts? I don't have anyone close to me to guide me. I'm planning every aspect of the wedding myself. My bridesmaids and MOH are no help and hadn't asked if I need any. I picked them out of love because they are second cousins and his sisters. God is good and I had time to research and get alot done thanks to my mother and FH's listening ear and confirmation. Been planning since 2004 for our July, 2006 wedding in South Carolina no less. Keep me in your prayers.

Oh my goodness Marshine, I am so glad you asked this question! I am planning every aspect of my 11/06 wedding myself too and my family, and MOHs are no help either. I am not ashamed to admit that I am a little clueless. I am so grateful for this site and I too would appreciate any guidance along these lines. Thanks.

Re: Rehearsal

No to the music. The rehearsal is just a dry run for the wedding ceremony. You can just say there will be a song here, like that. Don't show up late! Do make sure your write down EVERYTHING that you want to see happen at your ceremony and make a copy of what is to be read or sung and give one to the person reviting or singing and keep a copy just incase you need it on your wedding day because they lost theirs or don't show up ( believe me that happens more than you realize).

Give yiur BM and MOH a break. No one will be as excited about your wedding as you are. Not even your mom or FH. ASK for their help and assign tasks if necessary. They do want to help I am sure but probably have no idea where to step in. Print out the attendantsCheck lists And give them a copy. It will help you micromanage your team.

Re: Rehearsal

I just want to comment on something Rosey said "Don't show up late".. that is soooo true, I remember back at my first wedding I was late to my own rehearsal and needless to say they were rehearsing without me....horrible feeling absolutely horrible feeling, it made me feel as though I was not necessarily needed.

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

Re: Rehearsal

Hi everyone, I'm back. Thanks so much for the responses. Rosetta, I truly didn't know you shouldn't play the music. Thanks for that tidbit. I kind of figured I'd give the rehearsal two hours. I'll ask everyone to assemble at the church by 4:30 and probably get started by 5:00 for late comers. The rehearsal dinner will be scheduled for 6:30 in the church dining hall. The dinner is not going to be a big to do because I'll want to get home and get some sleep. It will be buffet. Do you think that's enough time or too much time? I love this site. DaughterRhonda, I'll be sending you a note.

Re: Rehearsal

This was a great topic. I was concerned about this myself. My female soloist is a member of my church, so she and the musician work very well together, but neither of them have ever heard of the song that I am walking to. I gave them both copies of it and am in no way worried that they can't handle it, but I was hoping to go over it at the rehearsal so I could hear it. Also, my future father in-law has a solo and he doesn't know the musician. When are they supossed to work together?

Re: Rehearsal

As a musician, I would suggest that you go to a couple of the rehearsals to make sure that you are satisfied with the music. I played for many weddings and I know it is reassuring for the bride and/or wedding planner to know that the music for the brides special day is done correctly.

Re: Rehearsal

I agree with t-1969...it is best to make sure you are satisified with the music...the last thing you need on your wedding day is to not be sure of what is going to be played. Music have different beats and sometimes it means walkin down the isle a different way. I rehearsed with music..I think it is important to use music so that everyone feels comfortable with what they are suppose to be doing at least at the entrance march and then you can cut it off to hear what the officiant will be doing or saying along with anyone else who will be participating like a soloist etc etc.

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
