I am a huge Wizard of Oz fan...so I decided I wanted to incorporate it somewhere in the ceremony...when my flower girl is strewing petals up the aisle, I will have the Kenny G sax version of "somewhere over the rainbow" played...she is very tiny and I figured the song just has a kid friendly chime...versus those old fashioned songs....let me know what you guys think about it...also, just for ideas sake....my soloist is singing "god sent you" by Puff Johnson as my entrance song...and my bridal party is entering on "never felt this way" by Brian McKnight. I have the dance leader from my church doing a spiritual dance to "first time ever I saw your face" by Roberta Flack..and our church mime ministry (husband and wife team) will mime to "you are my ministry" by shirley murdock. I have attended so many weddings where the guests are sitting there bored, so I always wanted something more like a mini production not only for entertainment....but to keep my jitters at bay.......please give me some honest input....

Welcome IslandBride, I must tell you that I love your ideas. You are truly creative. I've never heard of someone incorporating the Wizard of Oz into their ceremony. I know that your ceremony will be absolutely beautiful. I wish you all the best!

Hi islandbride. Welcome to the site. This is truly the best forum to share your ideas and get advice. You will find the most wonderful women right here. I am going to be perfectly honest with you beacause you asked for honest input. I think Over the Rainbow for your flowergirl is magnificent, I also like the Roberta Flack and Shirley Murdock choices. I too am using a song from the TD Jakes love songs CD. As far as Puff Johnson, and Brian Mcknight, I am not thrilled about these choices. I listened to both songs after reading your post. Although the words are beautiful, they just seem a little boring (my opinion). They are not songs that I would remember after going to a wedding. However, the words are meaningful and if these are songs that are special to you and your FH's relationship, it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks. It's your day.
thank you guys!!!!!!!!
I am really enjoying the board....originally from st thomas, but born in PR....I was getting a little frustrated not being able to find a place "for us"......many of the ideas on other sites just didnt mesh with the ideas i had in mind. Has anyone thought of doing their own reception centerpieces?... I specialize in them. I do the floral/table work on special occasions at my church...I did however find a page online that has some great ideas....although rather pricey...(we can go to Michaels yall and do them ourselves)
www.surroundings.com I am not affiliated with this site but I draw ideas from there...
Yeah the songs by puff and mcknight do have special meaning...thats y Im having 2 soloist one male and one female join us on that day....the brian mcknight song....well his friend who is an artist sang it to me....i wish we could share pics on here...maybe i havent figured it out yet....
thank you to everyone thus far

Anyone else here doing that?
Question, what kind of shoes is everyone wearing....

Hi islandbride,
Correct me if I'm wrong. While the guest are waiting for the ceremony to begin you're going to have the dancing and mime thing going on? If you are I think that is very unique and your guest will love it. They'll have a lot of great things to talk about from start to finish. I've read where your wedding should be entertaining but not overboard. What you are doing is wonderful and different. Most people will not be expecting that to be done at that time. My FH and I didn't want the typical organ prelude or continuous music cds playing while the guests were waiting either so we've hired a saxophonist to play the music. We thought that would be different and classy. The saxophonist will also play while the guest are eating their dinner. Nice touch. Just remember if you put your heart and diligent work into your planning minus "for form and fashion" like some people do, it will show throughout your ceremony that it was planned with love, thoughfulness and patience. God bless.

thank u marshine....I totally understand what u mean...we want our ceremony to be a memorable one yes, but we are devout christians and we know that many people who are attending are not, and in that being said...neither are they expecting their spirits to be fed while just sitting there waiting for the bride to prance thru...so we figured we could bring God to them, while they wait. I am a firm believer that all of this is not about us...it is for His glory and the only way He can get what is due Him, is by example....

Hey island...I love all the ideas, they are unique and your guest will definitely love the entertainment. I wish I was going to be there just to enjoy it and off course to eat your food at the reception :-)
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Thanks ladies. Word of mouth sometimes is the best referral. I was blessed to have the catering manager of the hotel where the reception is going to be share her experiences. Since she books events for the hotel she sees and hears everything. Part of her duty is to stay at the event until after dinner is served to make sure everything goes well. On one particular day at a reception there she heard the saxophonist play during dinner and he also deejayed. She told us she booked him on the spot for her wedding which was in four months. She gave us his number, we met him and booked him right away. God is good. I learned so much from the catering manager. She is not selfish and readily shares what she's experienced. I'm that type of person also. I give props to whom it is due all the time.
God is good all the time and all the time God is good
That's how we receive our blessings by not being selfish, just how that lady was a blessing to you now you can be to someone else. Good luck.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Thanks CharlotteModebe, One day during church service the pastor preached about Paul who encountered two women. One named Lydia and one with no name. One in need of a blessing and one who was a blessing. Ladies, isn't it good to know that we are a blessing to somebody? There's a blessing in knowing you're a blessing to somebody. Remember that!
God is good all the time and all the time God is good
Amen Marshine!!!!1

And the fabulous thing is we are all in different parts of the world sending and receiving blessings from each other...can you imagine the people that are under the umbrella of blessing. I mean who are not a part of Vibride but becuase they are in our respective states, they too are privy to it. God is awesome!
