My future husband decided that it would be a great idea to have our rehearsal dinner in our home. I wanted to shop around and see what restaurants would be able to host our dinner for the money I have to spend. I am still looking for ideas. What are you ladies doing? I would appreciate your input.

Are you saying that you will rehearse in the church and then everyone will come back to your house for dinner?....If that is the case then that is a wonderful way to save tons of money...smart man!
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
That is correct Charlotte my friend. And yes I do agree he is a smart man and I love him dearly!!!!!

I am having the same concerns Ronnie. I was considering a barbecue. My dad has a big yard, and the church is right around the corner. Since my wedding is in June, it doesn't get dark until later, so I figured that would be a way to save money rather that going to a hall or a restaurant.
Rony and Bossie...that home idea is not only a great way to save money but a wonderful way for people to really get to know one another without the stuffy feeling of a room that is time limited---the ambiance will be a homy feeling that really relaxes people...Fabulous ideas ladies.

Hey there Nlbostic, now that barbecue thing sounds wonderful. I think you and Charly have helped me to decide on the "home" setting as opposed to a restaurant.

BBQ...even better let everone get involved, Auntie Ruth can help with her special seasonings and Unlce Adam can crank up the grill, turn that bad boy into a family affair....way to go ya'll!

That is a good idea - I think that's what I'm doing as well. Only thing is I'm letting folk know right away, this is NOT turning into a party - so after you eat, GET TO STEPPIN'!!! lol
It is a great idea to have everyone over to your house. More intimate and personal that way. It is the groom's family's responsibility though. Even if you guys are paying for it all yourselves. i am sure his sister or aunt or mother may want to take this over. Ask which one of them will be handling it and then sit back and see what happens. If no one steps up to the plate in a few days THEN start planning your menu.

LOL...I am cracking up because I really do have an Aunt Ruth. When I read that, I was saying "how does she know about aunt Ruth"....LOL. Don't worry, this definitely will not turn into aparty, because it is at Dad's house, and he is not having it. Rosetta, I know traditionally it is the grooms responsibility, but I can't count on them. I told you, the FMIL still doesn't even know the wedding colors. Since it is at dad's house, I'll handle it myself.
Septbride you are so funny...Bossie gurl aint I your sister, how else I know about Aunty Ruth.......dah! lol
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Charly you are a riot!!!! Rosetta, thanks I didn't know it was the grooms responsiblity (I am learning so much -- this is so much fun!). I will be sure to let Mr. Man know. We are paying for everything, but I'm sure his sister will enjoy this part of the planning!

Just save me a plate cause I'm crashing!!!!LOL

Phenomonique you are welcomed anytime!

I will also be having a "home" rehersal. Since my wedding and reception will be in my future sister-in-law's backyard I figured why not have the rehersal dinner there? FYI my sister-in-law is also my matrron-of-honor (she's my FH brothers wife). I will just have to come up with a good menu, with some kind of chicken cuz I love chicken. For my wedding I want to have a traditional "Thanksgiving" dinner because that is our favorite holiday and WE will really have something to be thankful for.And it will be cheaper than catering for 100 people since we're paying for everything ourselves.
With good food and good people, your day will be a success!

You know what?....while I like a nice hotel reception, nothing like a homy backyard type a situation where you can kick off your shoes, losen that 18 hour bra and relax and hurt ya sef on some good home bbq...man your wedding will be off da chain.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
I agree Charly!

Hi ladies, I think a restaurant is a nice place to have it. It just depends on what type of feel you want. I will be having mine at my uncle's house big new house. I wanted their because I wanted it to be personal. That way there is no set time no certain kind of food etc. I can make it how I want it. We can get crazy and bug out. I was going to use a restaurant at first when I first starting planning. I was hooked on the whole Best man movie. But I got over that :-).
I am going to host my rehearsal dinner in a resturant

House, which one did you pick? I was thinking about the private room at the Southern Smokehouse on 1 & 9.
SEPTBRIDE, REFRESH MY MEMORY, WHERE ARE YOU GETTING MARRIED AGAIN?
I ask bcuz sometimes the venue will accomodate w/little to no cost. My venue is nt charging me anything to have the rehearsal dinner there. He said I may have to pay for food unless I wanted to bring my own. Well that was right up my alley. The coordinator there says We can use the room and he will give us a large conference room to allow us a more intimate setting for eating. We bring our own food and we pay nothing. So check and see.

For my brother's rehearsel,my parent's decided to have a fish fry and low-country boil in their back yard.My mom got a great deal on the fish (sea whiting) and blue crabs. My parents borrow the chairs, tables, and tents from their church. My parents saved a lot of money and everyone had a great time.We almost forgot that the mosquitos were as big as helicopters.lol.
Born Blessed!
Ladies we ended up having our rehearsal dinner right at my sisters house. We had a blast. It was informal and we were able to introduce the bridesmaids to the groomsmen in an informal setting and it was so much fun! Not to mention we saved a lot of money.

That is a good idea and it will save lots of money. I just going with having my rehersal dinner at my church since we will already be there for practice. And after we practice we will just go to the fellowship hall and eat. Close and cheap!!!

Taj, I swear I'm just now seeing this message. How did I miss this? Anywho, I'm getting married at The Winfield Scott Ballrooms. :-) I'm going to check with the venue today to compare pricing. Thanks for the suggestion.
I am afraid to give it at my house. My people do not know when to go home. It took me several functions to figure it out. The worst part is while I can throw everyone else out, i can't throw out my mom and she is the main offender. This is the reason why when I had my baby shower, I had it at a club to give it a more structured but relaxing atmosphere.

Good idea! We are paying for everything ourselves as well and the food is the second most expensive thing of the wedding so far. The cost of catering and number of guests don't mesh well on a budget.

We must have the same people. lol Someone suggested that I have it at my suite, I thought they had been smoking something. What do I look like having a rehearsal dinner in my hotel suite?
