Hello ladies and congrats to all newlyweds and those soon to be.
I am really close to my brother and would like him to have a role in my wedding. My FH is an Alpha and wants his frat brothers to be his groomsmen. There is not enough room for all of them and he doesn't want to cut another one so that my brother can have a place. Does anyone have any ideas on alternative roles that my brother can do. It is really important to me for my brother to be a part of the wedding, and it is becoming a source of tension between me and my honey and i don't want that. Any ideas or advice on how to handle this situation? We are planning to get married May 2007. Thanks

My Brother's Role?

Hey there A-free.....first do not let this situation come betwn you and your FH...remember the groomsmens are his responsiblility and you should respect that just how he has to respect that the bridesmaids are yours..second, I understand that you are adamant about having your brother play a role and I am sure we (you , me and the other sistas here) can figure this out. How about having your brother walk you up the isle half way if your father is giving you away...I am sure your father will not mind sharing and when the minister asks who gives this women they both can say "we do"......your FH will know he has 2 people to answer to then ! :-)

I think Charly's idea is great. Also, I have never seen this done before but I have read that it is not strange for a male to stand up for the bride. How about letting your brother do a reading or being an usher?
You guys are getting good! Those were my suggestions. You could add your brother as a groomsman and make your FH come up with a bridesmaid to escort one of his "must stay" brothers. Also consider having your briother and father both stand and say, "We do!" when the priest asks, "Who gives this woman?"

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Great ideas, i think maybe we'll try letting him and my dad walk me down the aisle and they both can give me away.

What I personally like about it is that if FH does follishness he knows he will get a butt kicking from 3 men.

That was a great suggestion for both to give her away!Anthonynfree, I actually have my brother, grandfather and stepfather giving me away. I know that sounds weird and a bit much! However, this is very special and meaningful to me. Actually my bio father walked out on my MOm when I was 9 so my brother(who is 1 year older) was the man of the house, also my grandfather took on the role as my father. When my mother remarried about 7 years ago after I was grown of course, my stepdad became the father I never had. He's awesome and I'm blessed that my Mother married him. He's also paying 1/2 for my wedding gown and for the entire reception. My coordinator has some ideas as to how they can give me away. She says that my Grandfather can walk me in about 5 steps and then my brother take me another 5 ending with my stepfather giving me away. What do you all think?
