Seasonale What is it?

Okay, Ladies.I'm clueless about seasonale. What is it?What does it do?Is it "over the counter" or prescription? As for weight gain as a side effect, bring it on!I'm still trying to add on another 15-20 pounds.

It is a prescription drug like the regular pill and you take it everyday just like the pill. It makes it so your period only comes 4 times a year!

Re: Seasonale What is it?

Hah, birth control, now thats something I know a bit about!! In all honesty, Seasonale is just a new and convinient spin on an old deal. For years gyn's have been approving women to "skip" their periods by not taking the last week of the placebo or sugar pills in the typical 28 day regimen pk. As far as it being healthy, I was advised by several doctors that it is seemingly safe to not have a period every month. In general, in order for your uterus to stay healthy, the lining only needs to regenerate at least once every 3 months but I'm sure that there are several important genetic and environmental factors that might affect diff individuals. I must say that nothing is the same for all women so I strongly encourage any of you who may be curious abt it to talk w/ your gyn to get a difinitive answer. And as for your weight gain Sis Platinum, how bout I just release my 'spare' 15-20lbs and we'll both be groovy:-)

Very good and pertinent information Ana, you seemed very informed..... I still am not comfortable with the missed periods....I remember as a young girl of 13 my period was not regular (or I didn't figure out how it worked yet) and I was NOT sexually active...when my period did not come I would be so nervous....nah how dumb was I and I am still the same way, it's a mind thing with me.....I guess I just gatta see it every month.

Like I said before stress causes a lot of changes in your body....but its all up to you. I hope I didn't insult you as your response seems rather nonchalant.

Re: Seasonale What is it?

Had to pop in here before heading to my MIL's house to set up her computer. Here's the deal ladies, the female body is a very complex thing and the key is not to have a general understanding of how the body works but a very specific understanding of how your own body works. I was a late bloomer, didn't start my period til well after high school (Thank God) and have always had irregular periods which like you Charlotte freaked me out. One year a gyn finally ordered hormonal testing and found out that I had a serious hormone imbalance, my estrogen was too low and get this, my "free" testosterone was too high. So I was prescribed B.C. and everything has levelled out since then. Every once in a while I do purposely skip a period and trust me Charlotte, you could get used to it. *Disclaimer, this is not an endorsement for b.c.* While I do agree that stress is a huge factor, its important to unsederstand exactly how stress affects your body and in turn your cycle. I can't say it enough, get really comfortable w/ your gyn and ask a lot of questions.

Re: Seasonale What is it?

Lol, you know what Ms Charley, I may as well have my OBGYN on speed dial...since my college days, they have been my best friend! I've learned over the yesr that you reproductive health is just as imp. as ur physical health, sometimes moreso since problems in that region can be harder to diagnose. ok, now i'm really leaving, my MIL just called again. Have a great day all.

Re: Seasonale What is it?

Thank you Ladies for you responses.Feel free to email me your unwanted pounds!Lol!I got my tubes tied at 21 because "the pill" gave me blood clots in my arms and legs. But now at the age of 33, I hate that I had my tubes tied.I've researched the possibility of getting my tubes "untied" but I cannot find any insurance that will cover this.I found fertility clinics that charge as low as $5500 for this surgery. So Ladies, think long and hard about it before tying your tubes.

WOW!..girl over here they only way you can have your tubes tied is if your husband signs for it......that's if your married. I am not sure about the procedure with single women but I know my husband did not even entertain me when I mention that to him afte our second child.

Re: Seasonale What is it?

Hello, I know I'm just a newbie, but I have to let every woman I know about bc pills.
Last year, I nearly lost my life because of them. I had been on them before, stopped and started them again a year later. Long story short, I had two blood clots in my lungs. If my FH hadn't taken my stubborn behind to the hospital when he did, I could have died. I had no prior complications with bc and loved being on them to regulate my cycle. the patches do the same thing. Women have dropped dead from bc.
Not saying this to scare anyone, but there were 3 other women who came in the same night I was admitted to the hospital with the same problem. Be careful and maybe try the Progesterone Only Pills if you HAVE to take them.

Only 38 more days!!

Re: Seasonale What is it?

I'm leery about Seasonale. I think the side affects a too scary. Of coure I'm the one when they say "1 out of 6 may experience side affect" Yeah, hello I'm #2 on the list. I have had 0 luck with oral contraceptives. I was taking them religously each time I concieved! I'm on the ryhtym method now, and it's working for us. No period for 4 mos, what happens to the unfertilized egg, where does all that bodily waste hang out for those mos?

Re: Seasonale What is it?

This information is truly a big help. You ladies have provided information from both sides of the spectrum and shared your experiences as well. I'm very grateful. I'm not currently using bc pills, but after the wedding I was thinking about it. Thank you so very much because after reading these posts I think I will opt not to do so. I will have to find another way. Thanks ladies.

Re: Seasonale What is it?

Last year I got pregnant on the patch (I changed from the pill so I dont know which one was ineffective).I had an etopic pregnancy that busted in my left tube that nearly killed me.I had been bleeding out for over two weeks and GYN said I was blessed because after 30 minutes of a ruptured tube can cause you your life.I had to get the tube removed and they did alot of poking arund in my stomach to get "my angel" out.I thank God I didnt loose my life! After that I was going to get on the pill but got pregnant (again) before I could get to the pharmasist after surgery. The second pregnancy ended early (5 months)and it may have been due to the hormaones recations in my body from the patch. But the strange thing is I am taking the pill now because I have to to keep hormone regularity. Before I didnt gain weight but (now after loosing two babies last year 1 in April and 1 on Halloween) I have gained like 10 pounds on the pill since November.....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be carefull when taking either one of these bc's.Know your body and what it can and cant handle.
