Ok FH and I were talking about a few thing about our reception. The first question was is it bad not having a reception...Is that ok to do? Or does anyone know the rules on having a reception at a park besides no drinking....where can I find that info..I'm in Cali and I am totally clueless on where to go from here....wel with the reception anyway.

The point of a wedding reception is to THANK your guests and celebrate the joining of two families. You can have a private reception with only immediate family or opt to have your reception months later when you can afford if you like. I often suggest an informal get together or even a backyard potluck. It won't cost that much and your family and friends get to participate in your wedding. Your wedding gifts will be greatly dimminished though.

Rosey has some valid points but one thing I wanted to reiterate on are the gifts....you may easily get little or none at all.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
yup. people get funny. But some of them won't bring anything anyway. Come wit deh han swingin' [lol] Do What's best for you, Alvinslove. Champagne and cake is a fine reception choice. I did a cocktail reception. 3 hours, only hors d'ouerves, live jazz band. It was a big hit! It cost way less than a buffet or sit down dinner, except I was foolish with the open bar and a guest list of hardcore drinkers!

Alvin I'm kinda having the same problem I don't really want to do the reception cause it cost a lot of money, it's the most expensive thing in our wedding. This is what I thought about maybe Renting some big white tents, chairs, tables and a dance floor get your DJ and have your own food cooked. You can decorate everything and it will still look beautiful.
virtuousV make a good point if you dont have the money for a reception just rent some tents and all that good stuff and get all the cooks in your family to help you cook. you could get a lot of the food whole sale from sams club or walmart stores like that. best of luck
Reception is not just feeding your guests but like a wedding "after party".Your guests are going to want to celebrate not get sent home after witnessing your wedding. You should have a reception, even if like Rosey's cake and champagne wedding. These sistas have great suggestions. You don't have to go broke to have a good time. Now, Rosey, you know how WE are when it comes down to free drinks. We'll take full advantage of that!Lol.
Born Blessed!
And Rosey you better bless the Lord there were no Bahamians there - them buggers would have carried bottles of rum and wine - they can really be pathetic.
V2 your correct with the tables and chairs - if its night you will not need much decoration besides lights and those little christmas tree lights look so pretty wrapped in tulle - (clear light bulbs)

Yes you can sure get together, get a sista informed and give some wonderful suggestions -- this is site is just great!

Thanks ladies...I will print this page and give it to FH.Maybe we can come up with something......even if it is just finger foods, cake and a drink.....I think we deserve it.As far as the gifts....You know how our folks is...If they can get away with not buying a gift they wont buy it...I know they probably wont get one anyway.........
