Freelance vs Professional

Hey everybody,

I need advice. My fH and I would love having a videographer and photographer at a decent price. However, my FH rather have a freelancer then a Professional. I am not cool with this idea at all.
I don't like the fact that a freelancer is doing my wedding. I think it is real tacky; I have never heard of a freelancer doing weddings.

Are freelancer better than Professionals at a cheaper rate?
I'm not sure.

Has anyone had or going to get a freelance videographer and/or photographer?

Please help!

I'm personally am having a "professional" photographer. But, that's not to say freelance photographers aren't profressional. Many people use them and save a lot of money. I think your FH idea is wonderful. Whoever you choose, make sure you see examples of their work, you may be surprised what they have to offer.

Re: Freelance vs Professional

Look at it this way.....Freelancer are paid by who they can convince to buy their work...their work must be worthy in order to be purchase...they are not going to mess up on a job if they know that is where their next meal is coming from or to say the least to help pay the rent.

My first wedding was done by a Freelancer and let me tell yo something, he did an amazing job at an incredible price.

What you can do is ask him to see some of his work and get some names as referrals and actually talk to those people....what is the worst that can happen. Exhaust both avenues before you decide, that way you will know exactly what you are getting into.

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

That is a good idea, however I would just stick with a professional cause they have many years in there fields and they know what brides & Grooms want and how they want it. Not many people hire freelance photographer or videographer.

Re: Freelance vs Professional

Freelance is basically someone that doesn't have a full time job or is doing it part time. They may have just recieved their degree or certificate in photography. Some work for newspapers, colleges, etc. A professional is someone that's been doing this for a while and owns or work in a photography studio. That's the best I can do...:-)

Welcome back Akasha!

A freelance photogapher is USUALLY a professional. They just work job to job or on specific projects. They may have another "main" job and this one on the side but do not assume that the quality of work is less than a studio photographer or videographer.

Find out what each package entails with both the studio photographer and the freelancer and get a contract from which ever one you choose.

Look at samples of their work. Pick the vendor whose work most represents the kind of photos you visualize YOUR OWN wedding pics to be.

And most importantly choose a WEDDING photographer/videographer. All photography is not the same and here is where you want a specialist.
