Am I being a copycat?

Ok ladies, I need your honest opinions.

One of my best friends (also one of my moh's) got married around 5 years ago. Her ceremony and reception was at a hotel, and my reception will be held at the same place. The reason I chose this place was because my aunt WAS employed there and she had me under the impression she could get me a discount. Well, she didnt (whole other long story), but I had already paid the deposit at this place, so I am stuck. (If I could turn back time, I would NOT have my reception at this place.) Anyway, my friend never said nor acted like this bothered her, but I still wonder if it does.

Also, my same friend got us slippers for attendants gifts. I wanted to get my attendants the same thing not because I want to copy off of her, but because I know the shoes I picked for the attendants are not real comfortable, so I wanted them to have some cute slippers to change into at the reception. I found some on Ebay that would be perfect with their dresses. (their dresses are black)

I didn't get the slippers yet, but should I still get them? It's bad enough I am using the same reception hall, but I don't want her to think I am trying to steal all her ideas. I posted this same question on another board, and other brides said I should just ask her if it would bother her. I don't want to do that because I want whatever gift I get them to be a surprise. Help me please!

B2b, you said this is your best friend, right? I think you should ask her if you really want to know the real answer. Maybe you can get your MOH's something different, just get the BM the slippers. But, does it really matter if she's bothered by you having the same reception site? You already said that "you're stuck" with this site.

At this point, it doesn't matter about the reception site because I can't change that. I just wanted to share that info so you ladies could get an idea of why she may feel like I am copying off of her.

B2B,don't worry about feeling like a copycat. But, if it really bothers you,try adding your personal touch to your attendants gifts. Add a scented candle or a nice tote bag to go along with the slippers.

I would not say you are copying....I appreciate you respecting her feelings but you are being considerate about the ladies comfort so go ahead and get the slippers, they would love you for it...I know I would. If it makes you feel better, you are tell her about it.

Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.

Let her know how much you appreciated the gift she gave 5 years ago and you want to carry on the idea because you know the ladies would appreciate it also. She got the idea from someone too. Don't forget that. As a matter of fact she'll appreciate it since she'll be one of the ladies with the uncomfortable shoes. Right, right.

Re: Am I being a copycat?

I have a similar problem. I attended a bridal shower in July, and at this shower I fell in love with the favors, so much I want them to be the favors at my bridal shower. The problem is the my friend will be attending my bridal shower and I dont want her to say I copied her or get mad.My mother and one of my close friends told me to just pick something else. My other two close friends told me that I can get whatever I want. They also said that she was not the only person with the favor and wont be the last. They said she had to see it somewhere, and probably stole that idea from someone. What do you ladies think.

I would just tell her that you liked her idea so much you wanted to use it for your shower, and if she would mind? I doubt anyone would say yes they mind even if they did.Even so I am sure she got her idea from someone or somewhere.

Re: Am I being a copycat?

Thanks Nikki. I was going to wait until the shower and tell her that my bridal party knew I really liked it so they got it for me.

Re: Am I being a copycat?

I understand how you feel but as grown women we all know everything has been done by some one. Years ago when i got married the 1st time, my moh loved the idea of me using her hall, she got married in June I did in October. She actually insisted. At the last minute I went somewhere else though and she got offended. A good friend wld consider it a compliment if you used her ideas and wld welcome it. There shld be no competition in friendship.

I do however agree with maybe improving and adding your own personal touch on top of whatever.

Re: Am I being a copycat?

Of course because it is your wedding you want to add your own personal touch. You always want someone to have something to remember YOUR wedding by. However I believe that everyone has taken at least one thing from someone else wedding. Even if you know the person or you seen it from a wedding on line. I do believe if and I mean if that is your best friend she would be cool with it because she would understand that you are just trying to make your day special. My best friend sister got married four years later on her wedding day. My best friend thought that was cool.
