Mayble I have the wrong idea, but you ladies always seem to help with your advice. Yesterday I got a call from my sister telling me that she is planning my bridal shower. She said "oh by the way I'm going to combine it with ______ (my neice)'s birthday party. Have you ever heard of such a thing!!!! I'm trying not to be ungrateful, but I'm tooooooo through. I just think that is so tacky!!! I would never do that to her. I'm just so annoyed!

Rightly so. You have reason to be annoyed. I totally know what you mean about not seeming ungrateful but.... This is a SPECIAL time in your life that you should not have to share. How can she tie in your theme if the event is being shared with someone else? I will be praying for you that God will sustain you and will change hearts that need to be changed.

Ladies thank you so much for your input. I really need your support right now. I believe my sister is a little jealous (maybe she's not aware of it). I thought my bridal shower was supposed to be a surprise. I don't know what is going on in her mind, but I think it is unfair for her to do that. I will talk to her about it, but I know my sister she can be quite explosive at times. I love her dearly and I don't want this to come between us.

Copper I know my sister was serious. She said "I don't have money to plan a birthday party and a bridal shower". She said my daughter is turning 21 and she should have a party. I have two maid of honors, and my sister doesn't have to do everything on her own. She was supposed to come with me to Niquey's for the fitting and she found an excuse (again money). She told me when she got her income tax refund she would give me the money for her and my neices gown. When I reminded her she said oh I spent it. (My neice told me that my sister bought tires for her boyfriend's jeep, a new leather jacket for him and she paid for a week in the poconos). Now I don't mean to again sound ungrateful, but she finds money to do what ever she wants to do and never makes any excuses. My sister-in-laws both have offered their help as well.

Rony, maybe you should just suggest to your sis that she focus on you neice's 21st bday party and not worry about the shower because you don't want to take the limelight from your neice. That way it won't sound like you're upset about her trying to do both.

you can have more than one bridal shower. make sure only family attends this one. It is sad that she is combiming the parties, but a party is a party. Choose a specific theme to guide the type of gifts you get and have th e maid of honor party at another time. Family can be irritating but she means well.

I like PB&J suggestion as well. Maybe you can talk to your other maid of honor & sister in laws about it as well. I feel that you should have your bridal party exlusively.

Like Rosy said.... Rony you can have more than one shower. If this is what your sister is willing to do then so be it. Make that shower for family and if nothing else it could have an o'clock theme for gifts anyway. Your other shower could possibly be hosted by your other MOH and the BM could help her that way it's not a major financial hardship on anyone but... you would be able to be honored as you should. That shower can be all about YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your favorite colors, theme, foods etc.

That's messed up DaughterRhonda. There's always gonna be somebody trifling. I think the shower should be exclusive. A shower is "rain on you" and you should be in that chair with the attention and focus raining on you. Point blank. No ifs ands or buts. Don't make any waves though because things have a way of working themselves out.

I've decided to just talk to my sister and tell her to focus on my neice's birthday party as PB&J suggested. Two showers is really not an option since the same people will be invited to both. I think that my sister will be angry with me, but I've already spoken to my MOH and one of the other bridesmaids and they won't here of me having a combined birthday party and bridal shower.

Update, I spoke to my sister yesterday and she was responded so well. She has decided to postpone my neice's b-day party and work with the other ladies. I am so happy. God is really, really good!
