Are you ladies familiar with the "sand ceremony"? It is an alternative to the unity candle. I am considering it because it's different, and the sand will make a nice decoration in the house.
Of course FH said "no" but I'm not listening to him anymore. He doesn't want to do anything different, I want to do everything different.
Here's an example if you don't know what it is Sand Ceremony

*If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything*
I am familiar with the Sand Ceremony and it is a great alternative to the unity candle ceremony. I like the miniature nesting vases as opposed to the other set you have posted. I think you should follow your heart, if that's what you want -- go for it!

Would you post a picture of the mini vases you are talking about. I haven't really done any vase searching, that was just the first website I came across. I probably won't be using those, so I am open for any suggestions.

This is where the problem comes in from me...
To often we get carried away in doing things inspite of how our FH feels...I know how they are but the last thing you want is to create tension during the ceremony or goosh darn at the beginning of your new life together.
Please go and fix that, talk to him and tell him how important this is to you and he may just meet you half way on it.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
Hi B2B, you already posted them. When you click on the "Sand Ceremony Sets" you listed. The picture on the Right says "Nesting 3 piece Vase" I said miniature nesting vase, but when you click on you will see what I mean. I'm referring to the set with the flowers in it.

Hey bride2be...I did in fact include the sand ceremony in our celebration. We both have children from previous relationships. Our bishop announced the sand ceremony right before he introduced us...we (the bride and groom) added our sand first, then all together our children poured theirs in...everyone had a different color. The bishop read a little blurb about us joining together as one blended family, and just as the sands could never be separated ...neither would our family. It was different, beautiful and a wonderful surprise to the family and friends in the audience.
My husband raised an eyebrow at it at first too...but he is so proud of our vase, we have it displayed next to our family portrait. The colors blended together are beautiful. *hope this helps*

Simply beautiful Island!

That sounds beautiful Island. I never thought about including the children. We too have children from previous relationships and that is a nice way to include them. Thanks for the idea!

My fiance and I are including our daughter as well. We will be presenting her with a birthstone ring. Her birthstone will be in the center. Mine to the left and her dad's will be to the right of hers. We will have our minister recite something about joining together as a family as well. I think the children will remember that and feel so special as well.

I am still sticking to my point - Do not do anything that he does not approve with - tlak to him and explain the significance and I am sure he will agree.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
I see what you are saying Charly, but I wouldn't necessarily say he doesn't "approve", it's just that he has never heard of it and he's worried about guests saying "what the hell are they doing?" I have explained to him that weddings are supposed to be different and reflect the couples personality. They are not supposed to be duplications of other weddings they have been to.
We just talked about it recently, and he doesn't care if we do the sand ceremony. He really doesn't care about anything anymore except marrying me that day, so I no longer need to double check with him before I make decisions, wew hoo!
My FH is one of those people who find the negative in everything before he finds the positive. He says "no" at first to everything, and he doesn't like to take risks. With him, sometimes you have to treat him like Nike, and "just do it". Once it's done, then he'll say how it wasn't such a bad idea, then after a while, he'll say it was a perfect idea. He's just weird like that.
*If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything*
I'm glad for you...the last thing you need in dissension in your new marriage life.
Charlotte wishes you all a beautiful Christmas filled with loads of love, laughter and the true meaning of this blessed season.
I love this idea! It's one I may incorporate into my own renewal of vow ceremony!
I think if you explain the significance of the ceremony, he will agree to it. Perhaps show him the webpage about it and let him read it -- that will really help.
Have a great day!

The whole things sounds so beautiful. I remember when I first came into the fold as a newbie and Island was planning her wedding and she shared how they were doing the sand ceremony. I said that was one idea I had to adopt so I did. we are also doing the sand ceremony in two weeks!!! Did I mention 2 weeks ago?

Copper, would you post pics of the vases you used. I am trying to find pretty vases that will look nice in my home once the wedding is over.

I know. I am a mess. I wroe 2 weeks ago. I meant to weeks to go.B2B. I am alittle challenged when it comes to posting but....I am using the flared glass vases on Pier 1 website. 3 little ones and the one large one. After it's over I will use the little ones in the house as decoration with colored marble probably.

wow 2 wks to go..I KNOW U ARE EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's the best feeling...I tell you...when those doors at the back of the church are opened and you are exposed, in your gown........the look in your husband's eyes...will be a reflection of every good moment the two of you have ever experienced....finally...for others to witness....I'm getting all fuzzy inside talkin about it.whew...
HIS eye is on the sparrow, and I know HE watches.........me
we used 6 small vases like for spices...with a cork stopper from pier one for all of our sand.....and the flared one for the finished product....the end result is wonderful...and just think every grain lands where it wants to...forming its own pattern...
HIS eye is on the sparrow, and I know HE watches.........me
I agree. That's why I thought the sand ceremony was so special! I am a bundle of emotions this week.

Ladies let me tell you this from experience....the most anxiety you will feel is getting up that day, getting ready, in the limo in route to the church but the minute you get to the church and you are standing at the rear door and it opens and you see everyone standing in your honor....all the built up fear will immediately cease all you will feel is pride and a love for the man you are marrying - a love that you never knew was there and without realizing...that frown turned upside down as you begin your walk towards your night in shining armor.

O.K. why am I crying reading the responses today? I am an emotional basket case. I was listening to one of the songs for the wedding and boo hooed. Maybe it will be good for me to get it out now.
