Hi,
I am new to this website but I am already loving it. I am getting married this year and I suffer from acne. I have seen many dermatologists and have tried numerous treatments such as oral medicattion, retin A etc. My question is does anyone have any suggestions? My acne isn't bad, but I do have scarring that I would like to get rid of before my wedding day. Has anyone tried microdermabrasion or knows anyone that has done it? Does anyone know of any good black dermatologists in the San Francisco area?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

What about proactiv? Oh and welcome to the site! :-)
Yes i have tried proactive and it doesn't work for me.
Okay, well try this. Stop drinking soda, every night before bed - wash your face and put on vaseline & stay away from chocolate. I'm quite sure the other ladies will have some suggestions or advise for you. I think they all went on vacation or something. lol
Welcome to the site fun26. I with Askalot (SeptBride) stop drinking sodas or any other acidy liquids and I believe koolaid too, and start drinking more water. I know water clears up your acne if you drink alot of it becase it cleans out your pours when you sweat, instead of sweating out the soda you are sweating out water. I've also heard that putting tooth paste on your acne will dry them up. I dont know if it actually works but thats a home remedy I learned in school and its worth a try. Just spread the toothpaste on the trouble spots before going to bed and they should be dried in the morning, so at least you wont have big puffy red spots on your face the next day. I've also heard that your make up can give you acne too. Something about bacteria being in it especially if you try to cover it up with make up then you keep using the same makeup. Please look at these Trya recap shows for more info on bacteria in your make up Baby Got Bacteria and also this show Make up Secrets
Hello and welcome to the site,Fun26.Do you squeeze your acne? That may be one reason for the scarring.Try Neutrogena soap and maybe a face cream like Ambi to get rid of dark spots.

Thanks for all of your advice.
Welcome to the site fun26. My daughter had acne really badly (she will be 16 next week) and the dermatologist prescribed Dynacin (oral), Erythromycin (a cream), and Sodium Sulfacetamide/sulfur ( a facial wash). It sounds drastic, but her face cleared up good. She doesn't drink soda, eat sweets or any of that stuff that teenagers normally do. Her skin is also prone to blackheads. I also told her to drink more water. So far so good.

Thanks for all of your advice..
I have tried many oral meds such as tetracycline, minocycline and doxycline and none of them have worked. I have also tried numerous creams and gels such as retin a. Someone recently referred me to a place called Urban skin solutions and they supposedly specialize in black skin care. So I am going to try that and let you know how that goes.
Thanks!
Try checking out some of your local "mom and pop" pharmacies.I remember how some of them had medicated soaps and hair products that you normally can't find anywhere.

I've used everything under the sun it seems but I think I've actually found a great product. A friend of mine is referred it to me because she's an Avon consultant. It's True Pore-Fection by Avon in the green bottles. I use the skin refining cleanser, skin refining mask and oil-free skin cleansing lotion. I use the mask 2-3 times a week. I must say that my skin has really cleared up and my FH has even noticed how much better it looks. They have it for different skin types. Checkit out. Hope you get he same results as I have.

Welcome fun26....You said your acne is not very bad, but you could be stressed, or it could be a phase...adults go through this too. Its very important that you find a system: Cleanser, toner, and moisturizer for your skin, and stick with that one...Sometimes switching facial cleansers all the time can make our skin more reactive to the elements. I sell Mary Kay so I use Mary Kay timewise system....Once I found a combination that fits me (I use the one for combination to oily) I use that one and I stick with that one....Also a mask 1-2 times a week also helps...But you definitely need a consistent system that keeps your skin from being overly oily, the toner will reduce the blackheads, the cleanser should be one that is a deep clean...The mask can also help with oil, and is comparable to a weekly facial-especially clay masks. Any quality brand will do-but just try to avoid switching brands, and mixing brands is a no-no also...The systems the companies develop complement each other and work better together so if you use Avon, use only their collection, or Neutrogena, Biore, Mary Kay, and so-forth-don't mix. Many customers only want a cleanser or just a moisturizer-but your skin is an investment-so if you spend 50.00 on a set don't worry-
Plus it actually takes a few weeks for your skin to adjust to a cleanser-and oftentimes I see women who keep switching due to lack of results....but you have to give your body a chance and it may take a month or more....same with creams. So I would use the whole bottle of whatever you try-as long as you don't have an allergic reaction-before you switch brands...
Don't worry about make-up if you enjoy it...as long as you wash it off daily...and that you use a quality product...the women in my family have been wearing make-up for decades, and still have baby soft skin, and wrinkle fee skin...beleive it or not, good make-up covers your skin and protects it from the elements like wind, etc, but you still have to wash it off. I wouldn't focus on the acne so much if its not severe. Just keep your skin oil free, and clean.
Sorry this is so long...

Have you tried "Goldenseal"?A friend of mine tried it and her skin improved. How are your eating habits? You may need to stay away from sodas, greasy fried foods, and junk food.Try drinking lots of water and fruit juice.Substitute junk food for fruit and veggies. Also, try a vitamin formulated especially for skin.

Has anyone tried an at home microdermabrasion system? If so, which one? And, what were the results?
Thanks,
